Diet, Nutrition and SupplementationPost here for supplement reviews or nutritional advice. If you're trying to get "ripped abz" THIS is where you should be.
I keep reading conflicting threads about the proper ratio's for cutting. I'm currently in Phase 4 of the HGM Advanced program and was using 40/40/20 as my guide. Then I heard that I should be taking in more protein and less carbs in a cutting cycle. Then today I read someone's response that I should be taking in more carbs and less protein? What gives? I'm 6'1", 187lbs, 14.4% BF (was in February) and cutting. I started initially at around 2300 calories/day for the first 2 phases, then upped it to 2500-2600 for the last 2 months or so. I've just decided today to drop my calories again to 2300 or so again to switch it up. Only thing I need to get worked out now is my ratios?
Its fairly individual, what works best for one person wont be best for another. One of the most logical concepts I've heard is keeping your protien constant whatever you're doing, and adjust your carb/fat amounts to achieve the calorie amount you're after.
and no matter what, make sure you're getting good carbs in. Veggies, lots and lots of them.

I think OldGuy has a good ratio, just to start with. 40/30/30 is about as balanced as it gets, and from there, you can tweak it as you need too. Not cutting enough? Cut some carbs. Or some fat, but tweak it as you feel necessary.
I also like keeping fat between 25-30%. Usually I just keep protein the same gram wise, keep fat the same percent wise, and if you do this while slowly reducing total caloric intake, that naturally means carbs goes down some percent wise.
