Diet, Nutrition and SupplementationPost here for supplement reviews or nutritional advice. If you're trying to get "ripped abz" THIS is where you should be.
My jaw dropped when I read Dave's diet journal. That's awesome that he's honest about it :O
"Dave ate around 10,500 calories today with around 450g of fat (38%), around 1450g of carbs (54%), and around 190g of protein (7%). And this was a "good" day."

I can't imagine getting 10K of decent calories into my body. On a good day I get a third of that.
I've actually hit the 10K Kcal mark quite a few times in myu college years.
I have been close recently....although all of recent ones involved quite a bit of booze

Tate is a beast, but I have to say this kind of puts his hardass image to question:
"Oops. I also had a few packs of Disney fruit snacks (we get them for the kids but I eat most of them)."
But then again, when you push/pull 2200+ you can pretty much get away with anything. Good series, though. Can't wait to see the results, and I hope it really helps his health, too. Life is too valuable to lose to something like heart disease as a result of poor nutrition alone.

10K of calories into my body is about 2.5 lbs of calories over maintenance. WOW! Could you imagine what would happen to me if I did that for a week. What would be the fat to muscle ratio?

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Yeah, one time in Cabo, I drank something like 51 Pacifico beers in a 24 hours stretch.....that's around 7500 calories in beer alone......holy smokes, sure sounds a lot worse when you actually write it down!

Mental note - never get into a drinking contest with dos!!

I don't mean to flame, But Tate is a strength ATHLETE. His physique, in fact a large part of his life is based around that fact. I can't say I'm interested in being that large, but then again I'm not going to push 2200+ anytime soon, either. He looks like he does because of what he does; the concern over diet is for his health, not his physique.

Oh I understand that Smaniac meant not so much from an aesthetical point of view but all that density around the abs aint good IMO its as bad as that freak Ronnie ......... Ducks.....................

Ahh, but all that density helps him bounce out of the hole while squatting!
Dont forget for his entire lifting career he's been focused purely on strength. Not health or aesthetics, but brute strength. Or more particularly, strength as demonstrated by the powerlifting lifts. Dont forget, we're talking about folks who see a couple of inches of fat on their torso as a couple of inches less they have to lower a bench press before lifting it back up.
Not something I'd ever aspire to, but guys like Dave have physiques designed for one thing, power lifting, they dont care about anything else. At least now he's changing to give health a priority.
Even an incredible athlete like Hossein Rezedazeh from Iran utilizes his girth to help with getting out of the hole....guy is one HELLUVA an athlete though. Flexibility and athletic ability are NOT a problem for this guy.

I thoroughly enjoyed the article and it really made me laugh. I imagine how Dr Berardi felt, you know.
I though my clients had crappy "before" logs, but man...Dave Tate can really eat out of convenience.
My husband sympathized with him, the first two times he really tried to eat healthy he was sick for weeks (got gall bladder stones out, gastritis, etc). His body wanted the crap. Scary.
I am looking forward to more articles.

Jeezus - that's 50 lbs more than my best deadlift! Amazing.
Is running yourself nearly to death any healtheir then what some PLers or Oly lifters do in getting a little overweight to perform better?
I dont see how running yourself till you are basically a bag of bones is any better. Fact is, a lot of atheletes do things to their body(training and diet, not even getting into drugs) that arent smart from a health standpoint.
Even some PLers who have good body composition do silly stuff that can harm their health. Case in point:
Oleksandr Kutcher who weight 165lbs and has totalled over 2000 pounds. He is lean as hell but supposedly he does stuff like drawing blood and cutting a TON of water to stay in his weight class. Removing blood to lower your bw isnt healthy anyway you look at it.

While elite distance runners may have pretty scrawny upper bodies, I suspect most of them are generally healthy. I don't think many are truly malnourished.
I think many sickly skinny runners have other problems like anorexia. If you read the Runner's World Online Nutrition forum, it's very heavily populated by people with eating disorders (mostly females). I believe a lot of anorexics choose running as an exercise because of the excess calorie burn. Many (if not almost all) of them are also vegans, which I suspect they adopt to give them justification for additional food control/exclusion in addition to the calorie restriction.
