Default South Beach Diet

I am just curious, what is your take on the south beach diet? I am thinking about going back on this diet (eating lifestyle).
I was on this diet two years ago, but I caved in when the holidays came around and just never got back on track. My two biggest complaints were my overall lack of engery (no carbs) and feeling cold all the time (apparently this is a common experience on tis diet). My biggest challenge was staying away from sugar. I have managed to really cut back my sugar intake, despite being off the diet.

So, I would just like to hear from everybody who has an opinion about this diet. Also, does anyone know how to be on this diet and maintain your energy during the phase 1 (first 2 weeks, otherwise called detox)? I have been walking and taking the stairs at work and I really don't want my lack of energy to cause me to cut back on those efforts.

Default Re: South Beach Diet

Can you list how your current diet differs from South Beach? What you want is a "lifestyle" that you can live with long term. Like many others, I believe that the value of South Beach is educating people about excessive simple carbohydrates. I don't think that you should force yourself through phase 1 again. Not a "normal" thing to do. Many things about phase 3 are just plain healthy eating. Although I think there is some evidence that "a calorie is a calorie" may not always be true, the overwhealming consensus is that the calorie restriction is the biggest factor in these diets. The fats (fortunately more emphasis on healthy fats in South Beach) help with satiety. The low-fat diet world has recently been dealt a blow by recent research, so we are left with moderation in everything as our moto.
