Default Veggies @ work...

Any helpful hints for cooking veggies at the office - in a microwave? Thought about just adding some water to the container with the lid laying on top to maybe steam them somwhat. Anyone tried this? I've tried to eat them raw, but I just can't do it. Maybe I should steam them the night before then heat them up in the micro.

Any helpful tips would help.

Thanks in advance.

You probably don't even need to add water. I nuke frozen veggies at home all the time with no water. Of course, they usually have some ice crystals on them. You may need a little bit of water for fresh veggies.

I do the same as Bama does, I usually take a cup of frozen veggies and slap some type of lean meat on top. Let it thaw in the fridge till lunch and nuke for 3.

Og.

yeh and sweet potatos are great zapped in the microwave (normaly take 9 mins) mash them and add a bit of ginger to them and they are good to go.

Dont know about over there but in most supermarkets here you can get prepared veg in plastic bags that are preservative free that you can just stik in the microwave for 3 mins

How long do you nuke them if they're frozen. The package says like 7 minutes. That seems excessive.

I usually take a cup of frozen veggies, add maybe a teaspoon or so of water, cover and nuke for 3 minutes. Seven is way too long.

I just put frozen spinach in a container with no water and nuke for 7 minutes. YOu can make just about anything in a microwave if you bring it frozen in a cooler.

I heard that the microwave destroys some of the nutrients. Does anybody have any info on this?

At home I use a electric steamer which isn't that expensive and is pretty convenient, but I understand it may not be a option for work..

A stand-alone, electric steamer? I've looked for one of those, but haven't ever seen one. Where did you find it?

I think I got it at Target or Kaufmans, not sure. But all you do is put a little water below the veg. basket, put the lid on, set the timer and plug the sucker in. Love the thing.
