Best Food for the Buck
Well as I advised in the Off Topic forum I will be losing my job in April. So what would rank as the top 5 or 10 foods that give you the most bang for the buck, and what supplements would you consider a must? I currently only use Whey, creatine, and fish oil.
I imagine eggs and tuna fish would rank high as far as what they provide weighed against the cost.
Any ideas on how to BULK on a budget??

Re: Best Food for the Buck
Eggs, chunk light tuna, and protein powder seem to the cheapest protein sources that I can find. All of them from CostCo, for me. Fish oil from CostCo, too.
CostCo also has HUGE bags of frozen veggie and veggie mixes.
If you cook, you can buy big ol' pieces of meat, whole chickens, etc. cheaply, there.
When Easter gets closer, look for supermarket specials on hams, too. I can eat a lot of ham, plus you can use the scraps, bone, etc. for great and easy to make soups.
Natural food stores have bulk grains and beans that are cheaper than regular stores. That's the only thing they have that's cheaper, though...
Sorry to hear about the job, too.

Re: Best Food for the Buck
whey, eggs, and most importantly, milk. All cheap, high in protein, and good for you. I go through, by myself, about 2 dozen eggs and 2 gallons of milk per week. total cost, about $8.25!

Re: Best Food for the Buck
I certainly don't drink that much milk, but eggs yeah totally. The gf and I went through a dozen over the last weekend. hahhaha.
I have found chicken has become two expensive, except fot the frozen stuff that I don't really trust. My brand has sodium high on the ingredients list (INGREDIENT LIST ON CHICKEN WTF!) and dosen't list the sodium content on the package.
I have moved over to extra lean ground beef and bison for most of my meat source. I should really buy a steak to BBQ though....SO craving steak lately.
Anyhow I spend on myself about $60 a week for food not including whey which is like $50 a month maybe. Now I'm not buying for a family, just me.
Og.

Re: Best Food for the Buck
Yeah I eat a lot of chicken breast because I can usually get for under 2.00 per pound. It's not the frozen stuff either, I got it on sale a couple weeks ago for like 1.39 a pound..

Re: Best Food for the Buck
Og, 4 words dude, eye of round steaks. Super lean, small portions, and seeing as their lean cuts... very cheap as far as steak goes. usually in the ball park of 2.50-2.90 per pound. I grill up at least 1 or 2 per week. we're talking EXTREMELY lean and oh so steakity goodness!
