They finally came up with virtually sugar free instant oats. This has been driving me nuts because I need something easy to make early in the morning, and the regular instant oatmeal had too much sugar (Yes, I got rid of them). It tastes pretty good too.
Publix and Kroger have store-brand quick-cooking oatmeal with virtually no sugar as well - that's what I buy, stir in a scoop of chocolate-flavored protein powder (also virtually no sugar) and it makes for a great breakfast.
I started on instant, then switched to making my own (1 minute oats) with my own flavorings. Then, someone told me to try the old-fashioned ones (which I call 5 Minute oats). The texture is so much better, I just can't go back to 1 minute or instant.
In the microwave, old fashioned oats take 5 minutes, tops. How long does boiling the water for instant oats take?
Here's my favorites
Apple Cinnamon or Cinnamon Raisin Oatmeal
Oatmeal
Splenda
Cinnamon
Spoonful of applesauce
Vanilla Whey
Cook oatmeal. Add the other stuff in.
Berry Oatmeal

I often leave the whey out of the oatmeal and make chocolate protein "hot chocolate,", instead and drink it on the side. Just make sure to shake it, THEN heat it up.
I didn't mean the above post to sound cocky or condescending (that means "talking down to..."). But, the Old Fashioned Oats really do taste a lot better than the Quick Oats and WAY better than the instant. It's all in the texture.
Once you get over the hurdle of what to do to them to make them taste good, it's hard to switch back.
I've even been known to make 3-4 portions at once and then reheat the next few days...
Try to find DaVinci Sugar Free syrups in your city. They come in about 50 different flavors, from egg nog to coconut to english toffee. They are truely awesome for flavoring oatmeal and yogurt. You can have a different tasting breakfest everyday.

I opened a word doc. just to add these recipes, gotta try them all. Thanks for the ideas, CB.
I wonder if they make flavorless protein powder.

Order bulk protein from trueprotein.com or allthewhey.com
You can get unflavored protein.
If you are using it as a MRP I prefer Milk Protein Isolate as it is a blended protein and keeps my fuller alot longer then whey. It also mixes a little thicker which may be a plus for you.
I've tried my own concoction with oatmeal and never seem to get it right so I've switched to the Weight Control as well. It tastes much better than anything I've come up with. I usually add a half a scoop of 100% Whey (vanilla) which brings the total protein up to 19g which is pretty good. Very quick and easy to make.

I totally agree, texture makes a big difference. I love steel-cut oats. They have a wonderful creamy, risotto-like texture and a good strong oaty taste. They take about 20-30 minutes to cook, so they're not a good weekday breakfast. They're my favorite oats.
I went from individual packages of oatmeal to Quick oats to the old fashioned oats. I cook in microwave for 2 mins at 70 percent power. If I cook at 100% power it boils over and makes a mess. I really like the old fashioned oats.
You can also let the oats soak over night in some water or lowfat/nofat yougurt or in the water/protien powder liquid in the refrigerator and warm up in microwave in morning. If you do this then the oatmeal is creamy.
Same as LD zap normal oats in the microwave and its 3 minutes:
I use oats, semi skimmed milk, and then add cinnamon and applejuice (unsweetend and its great)
Or soak the oats over night then stick them in a blender with milk, a banana and honey to taste or peanut butter.Tis a great one to stick in a disposable water bottle (notedisposable as it dont smell sweet by the end of the day otherwise or if you leave it your car.
Oh how about this one: I zapped the oats and milk in the microwave and then add a 40 calorie Chocolate Options drink (it was chocolate mint flavour) and it was mega delicious and well worth trying

Chocolate Protein Powder + Oatmeal = Crazy Delicious
Protein powder is about the cheapest source of protein you can buy, at least in the US.
$.013 per gram of P for protein powder
$.016 per gram of P for eggs (whole, large, not organic, etc.)
$.020 per gram of P for chicken breast (if you find it on sale, not organic)
Not that it's a huge cost difference, but it's very convenient, tasty, and nutritious, as well.
I have never tried Oatmeal since I was younger... I need something to lose weight though so maybe I should give it a try and maybe mix my NO-Explode into it???
Oats are a great complex carb choice when trying to lose weight or gain muscle - one of the best IMO. I eat em' every morning for breakfast. The fiber will keep you full all morning, and they've got good carbs as well as some protein. I ate 1/2c pre-cooking (150 cal) when trying to cut fat, and now I am attempting to put on some muscle so I eat a full cup w/ protein powder added in. Just make sure you get "plain" or "unflavored" and add your own flavorings. The flavored oats have a ton of extra crap in em'. Does no-explode have flavor to it? If it does it might be a good addition. I've never tried it, though.
Oops, my last post here doesn't read as clear as it seemed in my head. I meant get plain or unflavored oats, not plain protein powder. I've tried plain protein powder; IMO its more hassle than its worth. I prefer vanilla protein powder with some cinnamon, but I've tried chocolate and it's damn tasty, too.
