I am a beginner but have gone out on trails a few times and absolutely loved it. What a rush!!

Anyways, my old boss is also a dealer for specialized. He can get me a pretty good discount on a new bike. This is the one he has told me to look into:

http://specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel...eTab=story#top

I obviously will be doing alot more research on this but I would love to get the opinion of you guys here.

thanks

jim

The rockhopper is a solid bike, especially for a beginner. I ride an Epic, and for the most part, I like it well enough. My problems haven't been with the bike, necessarily, but with the shop that sold me the bike. It's been tough getting comfortable, and I had some rear hub issues, but it's taken me through 5 adventure races and many miles of singletrack. Best piece of advice: get the most comfortable bike for you. Doing this will save you hours of headaches and hassle.

Not a bad bike; should get you through a couple learning years. As silly mentioned, be absolutely positive it fits you well and is comfortable. No matter how good a deal you get, an ill fitting bike is always a rip off.

It's key. You'll never ride and uncomfortable bike. Glad I could help.

I keep meaning to jump in here. Damn it! That bike is nicer than mine! They are right though, it's all about fit.

And if your getting a discount make sure to get the best components, particularly wheels, possible for the money.

I wouldn't worry about disc brakes etc... but if you can, deal on some good rims, hubs, and cranks.

Good luck!

Yeah, it performs well most of the time...If I had my way, I'd have a Santa Cruz Juliana, but I don't have my way. The Epic was a demo that I got a smokin' deal on, though.

That looks a really good bike to start off with- good that it has disc's and the forks are Manitou: they're usually pretty good when it comes to warranty etc.
