So I went out on Saturday with Sarah (you remember Sarah) and her husband Aaron to ride a portion of the Ouachita trail that will be included in the Oucahita Challenge Mountain Bike Race that I'm doing in a couple of weeks.

OUCH!!!

This trail was not origianlly designed for mountain biking. It pretty much kicked my butt. Lots of rock gardens and very steep hills. My poor old bike was screaming at me by the time we were heading back to the truck. So during the race I will have to do that plus one more section of the trail before getting over to the womble trail which will be sweet. It is the best mtb trail in the state.

I'll be spending some time on the stationary doing my 30 minute power pedals. I get a tough gear and go at 20mph for 30 minutes. It hurts but really helps to prepare me for the leg burning hills.

My other strategy will be to treat the Ouachita Trail portion as an adventure race and be prepared to carry my bike over the tough stuff.

Anyone got any other ideas?

Who's Sarah?

I thought the Ouchita was a hiking trail only. ?? If a trail takes out 2/3 of the KDB, it must be brutal.
