Just wanted to introduce myself. I migrated from the MH board, and have been mtn biking for about 10 years.

There is, of course, a hazing initiation. J/K

10 years is a good amount of time. Welcome!

JP, Outdoorboy, and myself are the guys into mtb who frequent the board. Most of my miles are on the road bike and since I live in flatland Chicago, my singletrack skills are suspect, but I do ride out of state a bunch.

Welcome caffer! Are you into any other sports besides motorcylcing and mountain biking? Maybe trail running, canoeing, kayaking, climbing? Check out some stuff on the multisport board also. The second best use of a mountain bike is getting to the next section of the race! Again, jump in and have a good time.

Welcome aboard!

ODB forgot to mention diving with sharks, jumping out of planes and knitting....if it can be done and involves the possibility of blood-loss, he's into it.

Thanks guys!!!

Kaiser, I was just in Chicago a couple of weeks ago at a trade show. I was talking with someone from the area about mtn biking and heard about the lack of trails in the area. That sucks man!!!!!

I'm pretty lucky, the MMBA (Michigan Mountian Biking Association) is pretty strong so there are quite a few well maintained trails pretty close to my house. I would say I have about 9 trails within an hour or so drive ranging from tight and twisty to wide open. There is even a trail in the Lansing area that has all kinds of trials stuff (bridges log piles, and even a teeter totter). If you're ever going to be in the area check out www.mmba.org for trail descriptions or let me know, I'm not that fast in the flats but I'd show you a couple of trails.

ODB, I would love to try everything you mentioned. In fact, my wife was just telling me about this local place that has an indoor high ropes coures and climbing wall. She has done it before so I think we will be checking it out soon.

I aspire to do a triathalon some day so I'm thinking of getting my feet wet in a couple of local offroad dualathalons.

I have jumped out of a plane before. Don't know if I'd want to swim with sharks...........

Later

I still have yet to jump from a plane (but I'd like to try). Diving with sharks might be cool. I'm a fast swimmer and all I have to be is faster than one other diver . No way on the knitting, those needles are sharp!

They recently arrested a little old lady for somehow getting a pair of knitting needles onto a plane. They weren't so much worried that she would use them as a weapon...

They were more worried that she would make a couple of Afghans!

Been away from the boards awhile... Always fun to welcome the new guys! Welcome Caffer!

Speaking of Mtn bikes... are you Arkies training on the river trail for Raid the Rock? Noticed a lot more Mtn bikes out there in the past couple of weeks. Almost afraid to pass them due to some of the post where JP and the likes talk about letting it rip and catching the roadies while they're on Mtn bikes.

Watch out... all those leaves out there aren't just leaves. One brown leaf was a doggie deposit. I thought of FisrCut's moto about the shoes and well if you hit it then you'll have to change it to, "...and for God's sake, get this off my decent shoes!"

Jumping from planes and swimming with sharks... I have swam with sharks (but not on purpose but sort of cool to sit on the ocean floor and watch them between yourself and the boat you have to get back too). Jump out of planes... I'd like to!

Looks like great weekend ahead... y'all get outside!
