Default Cycling Shoes

I may do a triathlon next month with a 16 mile bike, so I'm thinking about getting some cycling shoes. Currently I have a toe clip. I figure since I'm spending money, I might as well get ones designed for triathlons, that have the loop in the back and are comfortable enough for wearing without socks. Anyone have suggestions? I do not want to spend alot of money. Currently I'm looking at these, but if I can find some cheaper I will be happier.

Keep in mind that you need new pedals too. I have Look pedals and really like how they feel. Very solid with a good distribution of weight over the pedals.

Have you ever ridden with clip in type pedals before?

No, I never have. I knew I had to get pedals as well, but I haven't put much thought into which ones. I'll check out Look.

When I went clipless five years ago, I started with Speedplay pedals. You can click into either side, making it a bit easier to get your shoe attached to the pedal. They also allow your foot to rotate a fair amount which helps some people avoid pain. I can't help you with the shoe part, sorry.

I've always wanted to try those pedals Sally. Do you still use Speedplays or did you switch? If you did, what did you switch to and why?

I'm still using Speedplay. My hubby uses them, too. I have nothing to compare them to, but he's used Shimano and he says he likes Speedplay because there is more "float" (degrees of rotation) in horizontal movement of the foot. I just like them cuz they're easy to get into and out of.
