Default bike computer and indoor trainers

Ok. So I did my research and decided to buy an indoor trainer so I can get some rides in while i'm on call for work (ie have to be 30min to hospital over the weekend).

Hooked it up no worries. Only then did I realise that my bike computer doesn't work. It takes its info from the magnet thing on the front tyre.

Is there a way to get this to work. Do I just go without (but that seems rather crap) or change the magnet thing to the back or what?

Any and all help will be muchly appreciated.

I think the bike shop mentioned to us to change it to the back… that'll get you the same info as front, really, it's just that front is closer to handlebars, and back area usually has the sensor for cadence. We put ours on the opposite side of the cadence sensor.

Funny, I just bought a trainer a couple of days ago and realized the same thing. I didn't know if it was possible to move the sensor to the back wheel, but that's a good idea. I don't even have a cadence sensor on mine, I need to get one of those too! So many things I still need to purchase...

Two options I can offer...

1. Move the computer mount to your seat post if the diameter of seat post allows. I did this a few years ago and the cable was long enough so that I could mount the pick up by the back wheel. See pic below..

2. See if they make an extra long wire mount for your computer. I bought one for mine a couple of years ago (I got tired of looking between my legs to see how fast I was going on the trainer), it was like $12 from Performance.

Hope that helps!!!
