Default Bought a new road bike - Fuji Roubaix Pro

Hey all,

I decided to upgrade my Trek 7.2FX, which very nicely handled 2K miles over the last 2 years, to a Fuji Roubaix Pro!

http://www.fujibikes.com/Road/Perfor...oubaixPro.aspx

First ride was yesterday, and the difference is AMAZING! I never realized that 30 miles could go by so easy and so quickly! Compared to my old bike this thing is a rocket ship!

I've got a few rides already lined up, the first one is the NY 5-boro ride.

If anyone is riding and would like some company, drop me a line.

Pman,

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to becoming more of a "biker" this year, as opposed to working on strength training. It seems that the older I get the "cutting / bulking" cycle is getting hard to maintain and I find myself struggling this year to drop the winter weight gain. Ever since I go the new bike all I want to do is go for long rides

Guys,

I just dropped the bike off at the LBS for the 100 mile tune-up ( havent been able to rid as much as I want due to rain) and asked them about an issue i noticed. The back casette is wobbly when i coast, to the point that the chain rubs against the front crank. They told me that is normal, but I have to question that as this is about 1/2 inch of wobble. Do you guys feel that is normal on a decent bike with a Shimano 105 cassette? If they dont ix it should I insist on a new cassette, or an entire new wheel assembly?

Well, the bike came back from the shop good as new, I got the entire back wheel replaced. They told me that they werent sure what the cause of the wobble in the casette was, so to play it safe they took the wheel off another Roubioux Pro and are sending mine in to the mfr.

I guess going with a good LBS paid off in this case.

Good to hear. That cassette wobble sure didn't sound normal to me!

Hey Guys,

I didn't realize until I rode it after the repair what a difference that made. The bike is a lot smoother since they replaced the entire back wheel.

On another note, I got tired of all of my flats and replaced both tires with Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase. The ride didn't seem to suffer at all, but I guess that when you're 205 LBS on a road bike an additional 100grams per tire really doesn't make much difference. Hopefully my trackrecord of a flat every other ride will be over.

Later

Mac

I have been using Continental Gatorskins with great success on avoiding flats. Glad to hear the bike is working well for you! Keep pedaling!

Pman,

I researched the gatorskins, and actually went to my LBS to pick them up. The guys there have never steered my wrong, and they suggested the Bontrager hardcase over the gatorskins due to my being a "heavier" rider... That hurt They said that the Bontrager hardcase have an additional "pinch flat" protection that the Gatorskins didn't, but sacrified the higher TPI of Gatorskins (130) for a lower 65.

Since this is my first year on a road bike I decided to take their advice, especially since they both cost the same.

Crossing fingers

Mac

Well I would trust their opinion. I don't have the um, "heavier" rider issue so they may be right. Those pinch flats are a pain. Just glad you solved your problem so you can spend more quality time inflicting pain in your quads!

I'm using those same hardcase tires on my soma that I beat to hell and take in less than desirable road conditions. They hold up really nicely, I've been very impressed.

Guys,

Finished a 50 miler on Saturday and a 20 miler this morning. I'm glad to report no flats!!!

I was a bit worried cause some of the reviews I found on the interweb made me think I made the wrong choice, many people were complaining about a harsher ride, but I really couldn't tell the difference. My average speed stayed at 15.5 mph, with no problems keeping a 21 mph for one or two miles at a time.

I would highly recommend these to anyone with pinch flat issues, especially if you fall into the "heavier" rider category.

On a side note, anyone doing the Five Boro in NYC this weekend? Me and my riding buddies are going if anyone needs company.

Sounds like you're getting that thing broken in pretty well. Keep riding!
