ok, so i have a question. let me preface it by saying i started going to spin class a few months ago and recently i have been going on days that i am not used to. anyway, the spin instructors on these days are all REALLY into their music lists. they get into and then they find them selves singing along and i think they forget they are on a mic. anyway, tonight the woman leading the class was trying to get us to sing along with her while we were spinning and got frustrated when we were all silent.
has this happened to any of you? it was remarkably uncomfortable.

Nah, I don't go to spin classes, but sometimes I get a little too into my ipod and scare drivers at red lights.

I'd tell her that you are actually trying to concentrate and workout, and then I'd politely tell her to shut her pie hole.

Some group instructors get into teaching because of an unmet need to be the center of attention. Just tell her it's a workout not American Idol. Besides if you're working hard enough that you shouldn't be able to talk let alone sing.
yeah, i couldn't get into it but then again neither did anyone else in the class. i was pushing myself too hard to get much more than a whimper out at the time let alone a tune. i just think its odd.

The only singing to be done on a ride is when Lisa or Sarah are singing the hamster song or TV theme songs.
Sarah, I watched a bit of the XTerra world championships today on television, and a female racer was singing while going up a long fire road near Lake Tahoe. I didn't know you were doing that race.

Yeah, it was just a "B" race in prep for Leadville though .
Man, sometimes I just gotta take my brain off the pain. I have found butchering the words to TV sitcoms to be the best avenue.

I've actually found that during really tough painful rides/runs/whatever that singing a little can help. Besides giving something else to focus on, it's not like normal singing, but while breathing both in and out, and can actually help me regulate my breathing. It's not the same as singing along in the car or "real" singing.

hmm... now I'm wondering what sitcoms... because I can think of some that are fun to mess with the words on...
This thread is funny....I teach spin (Les Mills RPM) and our old bike room was small and there was no mike so I had to yell at everyone so singing I could do and no one would hear me. Well newly renovated gym and bike room equiped with mike now and it didn't take me long to break the singing habit!! I sound terrible...somtimes things will slip here and there and I joke about good thing I'm too old for American Idol!
LOL, I have encountered this very problem at my gym. I've been going to spin classes for several months now and I have two instructors who frequently sing during class. Regardless of whether they have good voices or not, no spin instructor should ever sing in class in my opinion. If I wanted to hear karaoke, I would go to a karaoke bar. I go to spin class to work out. I've actually stopped going to the two instructors classes who sing because it annoys me so much.
