I got a great spring ride in this evening. I'm working really hard on ironing out a major kink in my pedal stroke (I basically have no 'pull' in my upstroke, result of triathlon????) - and I finally got into a groove and felt fantastic. I was holding 20 mph on a gradual climb, best 5 mintues of riding I've ever had, and just as I get all high and mighty, 5 or 6 guys from Team Slipstream/Chipotle BLOW by me doing 26-28 mph, no problem. Funny how this sport puts you in your place.
It was a great great great ride, and I'm really sad it's supposed to snow on Saturday here. Ah well, the trade offs of living in Colorado I suppose, 65 degrees on March 19, 27 and snowing on March 22.

Boulder is at 5,430 feet. My dad is in S. Windsor, absolutely gorgeous area.

<-----rolling eyes for want of doing over 20mph on flatness for any length of time/distance. Hey E, nice to see all the riders enjoying the break in winter weather.

I rode in 37 degree weather for a couple of hours yesterday evening. Why? So I could log some base miles before today. Another big snow here in Chicago today, 6-12" expected by the time it stops. Something like our 40th measurable snowfall this season.
Bleh. I like the seasons, but this winter has been long, cold (we've been way under average for what seems like 90% of this year and we're 20 degrees below where we should be now and have been well below average for the last 14 days - 20s and 30s instead of 40s and 50s) and seemingly endless.
I'm not complaining.... well, I am, but I just want some warm weather to ride in where I don't have to put on neoprene booties, dodge ice and potholes and clean off road salt off my ride, and dress like a ninja where only my eyes are seen through my glasses.
E: kink in your stroke: are you high enough on the bike? I just got an hour and got refitted (again).
I think I am. I am still on my first road bike, and I'm sure my needs and skills have changed the 5+ years I've been on it. I think this is her last summer, and I'm going to get fit properly on a new ride.

That is the thing about Colorado-I rode on the 19th, 20th, and 21st, then hit the mountain for some snowboarding the 22nd. And, Monday I was back on the bike. I'm loving being able to ride into work again. It's such a nice change from the bus.
Ah yes. It's been great here the past few days. Got a 38 miler in last night, got home just in time for sunset. It was great.

40/30 Blustery, chilly. Rain, possible mixed snow/ sleet near Wisconsin line. Colder at night, a shift to snow. East winds 12-24 m.p.h. and gusty.
Friday
38/22 Chilly and raw with flurries or snow showers, possibly lake-enhanced. Mixed drizzle at times. Gusty northeast winds continue 12-24 m.p.h.
I'm complaining because normally, we would have had at least one day at 70 degrees by now. We haven't even had one 60 and only a handful of 50s so far (our NORMAL high right now should be 51 - when it gets near that, people will literally be out in t-shirts).
I'm sick of this winter weather here in Chicago. I'm sick of not being able to ride outside without neoprene gear and worrying about frostbite. I'm sick of avoiding ice patches on the road.
I was back on the bus this morning. Why? Because after reaching 70 yesterday, it's cold, damp, and snowy today. No wonder I've got the sniffles. At least I was able to put some miles on over the last few days. It's looking like it won't happen again until at least the end of the weekend. How's that for timing.
Where are you located? It was just snowing a bit by me today, nothing tooooooo bad, but cold enough to ride the bus for me as well...

All of my miles so far are in the garage. The few occasions that it's been nice enough to ride I've been busy with work/kids/chores/etc. It snowed this morning, and right now the wind is blowing ~50-60mph.

Ugh. That sucks. Spring is coming though, it's coming.

I'm near downtown Denver/City Park. It was more damp than snowing, we had a few flakes, nothing too bad either. It's the damp that really put me on the bus. I'll generally ride if it 37 or above, but will make an exception to that if the afternoon looks like it'll be nice.

I guess when life gives you lemons.... take the kids and hit the slopes for some very late season skiing. What we did last weekend and today!
PS: I'm quoting my own post above. Can't tell if that's cool or gauche.
