Default bike repair issue

i was biking on saturday and i was using clipless pedals for the 2nd time and still trying to get used to them. anyway i came to a stop sign and clipped out on my right and in slow motion went crashing to the ground on my left. anyway, it turns out that i broke the cleat clean off my shoe. the shoe is fine thank god but the cleat is ruined. i bought new cleats so i am ok there but i can't get the old cleat to disengage from the pedal. i am not sure why. have any of you had a similar situation or can any of you offer any advice for this? should i just take it to a shop and have them take care of it?

if youwant to read the whole story of my amazing saturday its here
i should have stayed in bed
i think its good for a laugh. the kind of laugh that you say to yourself, damn at least that wasn't me. i am jsut amazed that all of it happened by 11 am.

Pliers grasping on to the stuck cleat and a little elbow grease (twisting it out sideways) should get it right out. If not, loosen up the allen hex nut on the back of the pedal to loosen its hold on the cleat and try again with the pliers. Remember to retighten after you get the cleat out or your new cleats will suffer from 'premature cleat ejaculation'.

Glad to read that you didn't injure yourself in the fall.
