Ohhhhh nooooooo. Leadville better be put on alert!!!

If you want to grab a beer while you're here, shoot me a PM and we'll meet up. You'll need it after that ride!

That is a brutal ride, compounded by the high altitudes. Good luck.

I used to live in Leadville. It's pretty much an armpit of a town. I hated the town, but loved the views. It was harsh living conditions though... Many a winter got to -50F, not including wind chill, and the snowbanks would reach the roofs of the buildings (two to three stories).

It has apparently become a real haven for cyclists. The ride up from Copper Mt is about 30 miles up to Climax Mine, and it is all uphill, and you will drive by several groups on your way up.

I take it you are doing the mountain bike race? The trails aren't so technically difficult... Mostly forest service roads, no single track, but they are steep and like I said, the altitude is a bitch.

It's just a bike ride. It will be hard, but I'll be ready. I can't control the altitude, but I can work on the climbing legs .

It's gotten to be a pretty nice little town. Still very remote, but the downtown area has really grown up. You'll love it up there!

E-there's no pressure to win! It's actually the one race this year that I don't have a chance at winning, so that takes a lot of pressure off. I can go, bust ass, get my buckle and come home feeling good about the effort no matter the outcome as long as I finish in 12 hours.

How close is Leadville to you? 'cause if it's close I'll want to meet your girl and see where you live since you've seen LR already.

Yeah, we're flying into Denver (I'm assuming Aaron is coming with me. He didn't seem happy about my getting in, though, so he may stay home).

We can work something out for sure. I'll take you to one of my favorite fuel up restaurants, and maybe I'll take Aaron for a ride or 2. Copper Mountain is only about 1h45m away, so we could def. rock the single track there!!!

You can't control the altitude, but since it's not a race, you can take Diamox and not have your head explode. Trust me... the stuff is awesome. I suffered for years at Breck and Telluride, only to try this stuff last year and be gone with the headaches and worse.

Since you're not peeing in a cup, save yourself some suffering and get a Rx. Just know that it's a diuretic so you'll have to drink a little more than usual.

Q-that's my plan! Heck, I'm down for anything that'll make it easier. I figure I'll only go once, so I'm gonna do the best I can. I've started a training blog to log the journey-

Paper: Lance Armstrong registered for Leadville 100
Posted Jul. 30, 2008

The promoter of the Leadville 100, a 100-mile mountain bike race in Colorado, told a local newspaper that Lance Armstrong has registered for his race and is training nearby for the August 9 event.

"It's huge for the race, of course, but even more grand and more meaningful to our community, because now the national and the international spotlight will be on Leadville," promoter Ken Chlouber told the Summit Daily.

Armstrong had said he was going to do Leadville last year but then pulled out citing a scheduling conflict. Floyd Landis did race last year, coming second to mountain bike legend Dave Wiens.

The paper reported that Armstrong has been training in nearby Aspen, Colorado. Acclimatization is key at Leadville, which starts at 10,200 feet elevation and tops out at 12,600.

"(Armstrong's) coming to win," Chlouber told the newspaper. "I’m sure he’s got his guns strapped on, and he’ll be coming full blast ... We’re going to put him on the front row, right besides Dave Wiens, and I expect it’ll be a shootout right from the get-go."

It's almost that time boys and girls! Wish this one luck. And don't feel bad, it's going to reach a high of 68 in Leadville on Saturday with some clouds. PERFECT riding weather! She's going to destroy that little pisser of a town!

I was thinking spicy black beans and rice with mango colada smoothies out on the deck. But whatever.
Ride like you stole it.

Sarah is now 2 hours into that beast, and I'm sure she's killing it!!! I think they'll call me tonight and let me know the plan, so I'll get an update up as soon as I hear from them. 2 hours down, 10 to go!!
