What kind does everyone have and what does everyone prefer?
The current frame has downtube shifters on it.

I'm old school. I have downtube shifters that work just fine. If I got a new bike I'd want the brake shifters but I don't think changing the old ones is worth it.

I love my Campy's because you can shift through several gears at once. Plus, if something breaks, like a spring, you replace the spring. With Shimano, you replace the entire mechanism. Or so I'm told by my LBS
But you pay up front for that with Campy, too. I ride Shimano Ultegra and they rock.
Yeah, they are $$$. But, I've got over 50,000 miles on my original Campy equipment and the only thing I've replaced is the aforementioned spring in the shifter.
Not too shabby. How about a close guess as to how long you've had it? I personally can't keep anything that long. Silly and I have talked about getting rid of my 'new' Orca (5-600 miles) just so I can get one of the '07s.
I was talking to my LBS guy on one of our group rides about taking my Trek to be my beater bike and getting a new road ride before carbon fiber prices go through the roof. He told me to not even consider it until I had 10,000 miles on this frame. I've got 5,000 right now.
I just read an article in Bicycling Mag about carbon fiber prices sky-rocketing due to Boeing's new planes being made primarily out of carbon fiber. Aaron, Sarah, or K, have you guys read/heard anything about that? Is that what you're talking about K?

I've had the bike ten years. It is custom, so I have no reason to get rid of it - except that I have the hots for an Orbea.
I'm using Shimano too, but 105's - one step down from Ultegra. They're fine for the amount and type of riding I do.
RE: Campy vs. Shimano. I won't argue whether one is better than the other, but if something does break, I can find a Shimano replacement in just about any LBS in North America. Don't know if that's true for Campy.
Oh, and I can downshift 3 cogs at a time with my set-up, but have to upshift 1 at a time (or is it the other way around ).
