Default Biking and HITT

I previously got my cardio from running, but I discovered that I have fallen arches so I decided to try a bike instead. I do HITT for the most part and have found it very difficult to get my heart rate up on a bike compared with running. I love the benefits of biking but it just doesn't seem like it's as effective as running when it comes to HITT. Even though my heart rate doesn't go up very much I still feel fatigue in my legs. Any suggestions on how to improve bike HITT. I've thought of buying one of those trainer that allows to bike indoors, so it would be more of a controlled environment.

Find a steep quarter mile hill. from a standing start ride up as fast as you can. cruise back down to the bottom quickly and repeat until you fall over. If that doesn't get your heart rate up the hill is not steep enough. I have a 135' climb on mine in less than a quarter mile.

Just to clarify, I'm sure you mean HIIT = High Intensity Interval Training.

ODB, that would be some really tough HIIT! I think you're awesome! That'd kill me because the recovery time would be shorter than the sprint interval, right? Do you ever do anything to increase the time of your recovery interval?

At the bottom of the hill there is a flat road that iI ride up and down for approx. the same period as the climb. I've found that mountain biking in this area is also very close to HIIT but the intervals are not always perfect.

This sounds like such a fun way to mix up my HIIT. When it gets cooler in the Fall, I want to give this a try.

Yeah, I did mean HIIT, didn't realize I spelled it that way till just now. That sounds like a plan ODB. Just have to find a hill now.
