I just bought a bike last weekend and decided to ride it to work everyday for a goodwork out and to save money on gas. I haven't really road in a long time and i forgot how much biking can kick the crap out of you
I bought a trek hybrid 7200. i like it because i ride a good mixture of roads and level surfaced trails. I made it 15 miles my first day out, and have tried to switch back and forth between the bike and running the past week
Oh yeah i am pretty new to riding and will take and advise you guys have and planing on reading previous posts and asking some question I hope i wont annoy anyone by doing that
Cool, Emartin is logging his journey to a half ironman, I am logging my journey to my first try at one, FishcutrB8 and Finboy as well as Ninja are also doing triathlons. We have a pretty decent base of tri or aspiring tri guys here.
Careful though, if you get to into it you'll be hmmm this bike is cool...but I want something...FAST.
Og.

I don't think want something faster is a bad thing. I mean i could get addicted to video games and sit around all day with my fingures being the most inshape body part i have like a couple of the guys i lived with in college. (ps. i just got done riding some trails and my legs want to fall off, it sure is a good feeling)

Yes you can. I did it to mine.
I used a set of Syntace C2 bars.
You'll have to use rubber shimms, or use a 1 inch piece of 12 gauge house hold electrical wire ( keep the insulation that holds the 3 wires together ) on. It bends easily without compressing, and provides a good surface that grips the handle bar and a good surface for the teeth on the aerobar to grip into.
There may be better bars than others, the Syntace has worked for me. I got them because of the price and from a few threads I read elsewhere. I'd type syntace in a search engine and find the best price. No distributor in particular comes to mind though.
Hey Ron, i am new to this whole bike thing so please don't think i am stupid, but since you have the same bike as me, do you know or remember what size the handle bars are, i don't know where to look or how to figure it out. thanks
Little late here, but congrats on your purchase. Nothing better than rocking up to work on your bike and seeing everyone else walking in from their cars with donuts in hand. It's the little things in life.
Ditto on the grocery purchases, You already feel a bit superior in line with the people who have pop and deep fried crap. Add in you rode to the store and didn't drive...
DAMN

No, I don't remember. I never really measured it. I was lucky I guess to have found materials on hand to shim the extra space with. I thought the LBS was going to give me a hard time about it the next time I brought the 7200 in for maintenance. No. They even replaced my household wire shims with the rubber ones for me.
I will ditto what Ron expressed. My LBS put shims on for me when I got my aero bars. I do not have the same bike, I have a Giant. But any good LBS will shim the bars for you. If they don't do the little things like that, I do not do business with them.
I had a Trek helmet that the strap broke from hanging it on a hook for storage. Called the shop where I bought the helmet, and they tried to sell me one for $15.00. Which was at their other store across town. When I got there, he said 'no charge'. He could send it back to Trek for credit.
That other bike store kid was trying to get some coke/chips money from me.
