I guess i have two favorites. My current one is the Lat Pulldown, I can feel the strength build up, and my numbers go up nicely. It also makes the biggest 'noticeable' difference with my back and such.
Back when I was going to the gym all the time, I loved the calf raise thingy. I have strong calves and I could hit high numbers and usually the guys were under me in weights I liked it when I left and a big guy came up behind me and lowered the weights. lol. I even had guys stand around to watch and see if I could do it once I set the weights.

I'll play, I love the Romanian deadlift because I love the stretch it gives and how much I can activate my glutes. I love pull-ups for upper body(eventhough I can only do a few) because they wokr so many muscles and it requires so much power ans strength.
On the opposite side, can I say that if I never do another static lunge w/rear foot elevated I would be perfectly fine with that.(did workout 7-5 today so no more of those for awhile)
Annette, why have I not thought to do a bb shoulder press? I needed some more vertical execises. Thanks!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE dead lifts. I used to hate them. But I like that it works every friggin muscle in your body and that, by coordinating all those muscles, you can move soooo much weight. There's also a large capacity to improve in DLs because you are using so many muscles, which is great for the instant gratification.
Another exercise that I really like but haven't done in a long time is basically doing a triangle pose from yoga with DBs of different weights in your hands. You bend into triangle and then come back up. Great for shoulders, stabilizing muscles, and obliques. And flexibility. There's also an awkwardness to doing something w/ 2 different size weights that I like.
I really like shoulder presses because I actually feel the muscles working and I like what it has done to my arms. My second would be push ups. I set a goal of trying to do as many push ups as I can and I've gotten to 25, so far, before collapsing.
I have to admit pullups/chins are my favorite move, if only because I can actually do them!
There is nothing better than jumping to the bar and hoisting my rear-end up...several times. It's one move that I can do to show off, and earn "cred" at the gym (you know how people can be...).
I am not entirely sure what my favorite exercise is. To me I love the box squat because i can go heavy. 215 is my heaviest, have to watch my knees on that one though. I wish I could do a pull up as i am sure i would love those too. My favorite body part to exercise would be the back so just about any of the back exercises are awesome. RDL's and Lat pull downs top the overall list next to the squats.
I'm not in this challenge, so I'm not sure if I am allowed to post here, but I just have a burning question: Annette, what is an upright BB row? How do you row a barbell while upright?
Anne, if I shouldn't be posting here, just let me know.
I did a DB Low to High Woodchop for the first time with Leigh's OPT for Fatloss and loved it! I liked the way it twisted and stretched my abs.
My least favorite was the DB Get Up, until today, I got some respect for it. I went to an introductory kettle bell workshop, we learned 3 moves: kettlebell deadlift, swing (which I'd wanted to learn), and Turkish Get Up!!! Wow!! Instructor broke down that exercise into each individual part, and if you take it that way, that it's maybe 6 exercises in one, you can really respect it for the strength it gives you. So I still hate it, but it has my respect.

my favourite exercise is the lat pulldown, maybe its because I get to sit down while I do it.
Another question, how do you deal with the weekend? Do you have the same diet as during the week, or do you go off diet, and how do you deal with parties and BBQs? If I know I have a party or bbq I will indulge, but then get back into it when the week starts. I still have a problem telling people Im trying to lose weight, as I think it invites comments, so just wondering what other people think
favourite exercise as in really FUN to do & not as in 'doing wonders for my strength/physique'
- BW-only: pullups.. but who knows I might once even start liking box jumps .. they scared the bejezus out of me at first!
- with a db: db swings (or kb swings)
- with a bb : snatches , closely followed by push presses
- machine exercise : leg presses & 1-arm lat pulldowns.
dixiechick: those social events are the main reason for needing to go lower in calories on most other days if you don't want to become a hermit or having people comment on why you eat so little.
Say you want to aim for an overall 400kcal deficit then you can e.g. go for a deficit of 750 kcal 5x/wk & save up for a free meal twice a week of around 500kcal surplus.
You can put those surpluses either use 3-4 days apart or when you have a BBQ or another event.
This is both going to help you with fat loss as well as with motivation.
Wow; that's gotta be a first, that someone actually likes step ups!
I actually used to really enjoy them too. That is until they reappeared in Stage 7- probably the 15 reps that I'm not liking, but I really like what they do for the legs

Aha. Ok; I was thinking of row as in same motion as sitting row. The upright then works different muscles. I don't know official terms for things a lot of the time, so I have my own names. I had thought of that exercise as more of a shrug/pull.

Typically my weekend is not different from the rest of the week. I tend to work those days, and don't have the usual 'markers' like cookouts, etc.
BUT if there is something big coming up that I WANT to splurge on my eating, I do, as long as they are not 'over lapping' and starting to pile up. On those occasions, I eat 500 cals or less that day (sortof a version of IF) and then have the 'cheat meal', assuming that even with overeating, I am not doing THAT much damage.
That is what I did with Red Lobster last week. I still think back with fond memories.

I also like to do predamage control. This is via exercise, weights and cardio. Sometimes I will do a longer cardio session, high intensity. Or sometimes I will do cardio adn weights. I too also do a type of IF, skip my morning shake, skip lunch and save the cals for evening. And of course that free meal.
I want to throw out a question as it is something I am dealing with myself.
Do any of you have a tendancy to stop weighing yourself for a period of time after falling off the wagon? Only to find later about how much weight you gained, and then feeling more discouraged? Sometimes it can actually be better to continue to weigh yourself even with the slip ups rather than face it later.
I've done this in the past. I'm trying to find a balance somewhere in between daily weighing and just checking progress. I see lots of people (and I've been one of them) who lets an overnight gain affect their mood. The longer I did daily weigh-ins the less that they affected me. However, when I'm not sticking to plan, staying off the scale can be a horribly bad thing. At the moment I'm trying on plan, with a monthly check in. I'm hoping that if I go off plan though I'll make a point to weigh more often, not less.

When I'm gaining weight, I don't weigh myself all the time BUT I always tend to know what I weigh.
I can go months without stepping on a scale, and have gained weight and I always 'know' what I weigh. I don't think my 'guess' has ever been off by more than 5 lbs. I have never been shocked by the scale, only dissapointed when the number was confirmed.
I guess if I was analyzing myself, I would attribute it to
(A) I am very honest with myself, if I am gaining weight, then I'm gaining weight. No need to sugar coat it, or pretend it's not happening. Gaining weight, when I am overeating, shows that I am a healthy person whose body responds to overindulgence in a known scientific pattern. That is not unhealthy. It may be annoying, but it's not unhealthy.
(B) I am very 'in touch' with myself and know what I feel/look like at different levels.
(C) Numbers don't bother me as much as "things", like having to hold my breath when I bend over to tie my shoes or when I go on a hike and I'm winded before we 'hit the trail', those are the type of 'shock' moments that can motivate me.
I am weird though

My weights aren't very heavy, especially at 3x12...and in the long run, it helps with my skiing and hiking!

I usually will save up cals for the meal/party so that while my macros aren't in line, my cals are which for that one day is not a big deal. Especially when you're back on track the next day!

I weigh myself daily or every other day. But I've worked through this not effecting my mood, it used to really bother me when my weight went up. Now, I think of it a bit more rationally, kind of like I'm just collecting data to figure out more about my body. Recently, I've taken to weighing myself right before bed and first thing in the morning to see how much I lose overnight. Generally 3lbs.
I've been weighing twice a day for a very long time, both to see if there's a big change from am to pm (carb loads, very strict dieting & being dehydrated = large changes) & to guess my am wt.
am to pm can fluctuate quite a bit, but pm to am is fairly constant at 1kg difference. More when needing to go to bathroom at night, less when being dehydrated or fully carbed up.
They say that those who keep the weight off successfully weigh themselves at least 2 times a week. The simple fact that someone who knows they are eating in a surplus, yet stays away from the scale just shouts being in denial. All the more reason to weigh more often.
