Yep, it shows. I was planning to post a list of names and logs when we have a final list of entrants. I'm glad that it shows up though. I suspect because of spammers there a certain number of posts you need before they show up (just guessing though).
This is my first post on this board. Am planning to enter the challenge, and hope to upload photos tomorrow, Tuesday. Really like this board and have spent a fair amount of time lurking/browsing in the last few weeks. (Relatively) new to strength training.
Have been headscratching about what to put down on my goals. I am 48 years old, soon to be 49; and I weigh 116 lbs and stand 5 feet 2 inches. This is the lowest weight I have ever been in my adult life. But while according to most medical standards, this is a good weight, in reality I'm still quite fleshy and flabby, especially around the hips, buttocks, thighs, waist.
Not sure if this is the right way to measure but this is what the tape measure tells me:
Belly Button Waist: 32
Smallest Waist pt: 28
Hip (bone to bone): 34.
Left Hip: 20
Right Hip: 21
Never in my life thought about body measurements --except for shoe size-LOL! Always buy most of my clothing at vintage or second shops, where sizing is kinda wacky anyway. My goal had always been to weigh about 117, as I thought this weight would give me nice, fit, body shape.
But here I am at 116 and still looking like the Pillsbury dough girl so obviously something needs to give. I'm finishing up menopause (seems to have come a bit early for moi) so I assume the age-induced loss of muscle has set in--hence my interest in weight training.
In a later post I'll talk a bit more about my recent weight loss and other physical and life changes that accompanied it--in brief, a case of runners knee forced me to drop my daily 4 mile run. Took up jump roping and twice a week strength training -- about 4 months later my body weight dipped under 120 for the first time since adolescence and has stayed there.
I actually need to get to the gym to excersize! So I'll wrap up by just asking if anyone can volunteer any info, links, tips, etc on what and how to determine my ideal body measurements, and what is a reasonable goal to accomplish by January?
Btw, judging my the width of either my elbow or wrist, my frame size is medium, though just barely.
Gotta run--literally-HAH!
Be well --
Jennifer

what about using body fat % as a goal? Instead of trying to gain or lose overall weight, just try to decrease fat and increase muscle. I really like New Rules of Lifting for Women, I think it would fit that goal pretty well. Good luck and welcome to the board!
I agree - I think New Rules of Lifting for Women might be a good fit for you. Focus on building muscle and you might be happier with your overall body composition. Anyways, welcome, and I do hope that you get your pictures up by tomorrow night and join everyone.
Some people set goals, others just pick a plan and follow it. So your plan could be as simple as 'improve body composition with NROL4W' and see how far you get in the four months. No matter, good luck.
If you're a member of a gym they might do some type of assessment. You can usually tell that you're improving body composition when you don't lose weight and yet everything fits better. So, keeping track of measurements can be as good a method as any.
If I can't get the digital camera upload thingie worked out, could I start off with some pix from my MAC's photobooth? Maybe not be especially photogenic, but it's easy to do and, I assume, post.
Yep, I know with a built-in camera they might be odd, but go for it. Just remember that you must put your pictures on a webhost first (Flickr, Photobucket... I forget the third one that some use). You can practice here with a non-challenge picture if you would like.
Hi, I would like to join this, I have taken photos and have my weight but I don't have a tape measure. I have never really cared for measuring my body with a tape measure because I dont really know where to measure anyway and think it is hard to get an accurate measurement since I don't know what I'm doing and could measure the same body part twice in a row and get different numbers.
Is it allowed to join with only photos and weight or do you need the tape measure measurements also?
Actually, I heard a horrible thing once on the weight loss board I sometimes post on. Someone posted that they knew one of the women who was posting. Her after pics were her before ones (from before she gained weight) and the before pictures were her current. It was kind of sad really.
Okay ladies, I'll be off line early tonight as I've got an early morning tomorrow. So please remember to get your pictures/stats up before the end of the day tomorrow. That's about 28 hours from this post. I won't be around until later in the day tomorrow, so if you're having problems - post here and hopefully someone will be able to help you. I'll check when I get home, but please don't leave it until the last minute. Pretty much every challenge will have someone who has a last minute problem and doesn't make the deadline. Let's try and avoid that this time!
It's pretty cool to see new photos being posted everyday (up to today.) Looks like the total number participating will be pretty high, and it brought a lot of lurkers out to participate.
Since it is only 4 months, more people should still be in at the end too. That's also one of my goals, just be able to stick it out.
Just improving my body is prize enough for me. Instead of always thinking of what I can do in the next month, or even next few months, I try to concentrate on where I can be a year from now....keeps me from stressing over the little things.
Wow! This is going to be fun. I'm with you Annette on sticking it out and just keeping focus. In the past I would always get to a certain point and then totally fizzle for a few months and then be back at sqaure one. This time around I'm determined to keep pushing through plateaus and achieve things I never thought possible. I've been working out consistently for 7 months now and plan on making it to a year and beyond. This challenge will definitely help with that. Let's do this ladies!
