Hi Tracey

Poppy - Thanks for stopping by

Annette - I'm planning to train for an actual 5K in either November or December (I live in Southern California so we have good weather almost year round. My first goal was to run 30 minutes without stopping and then I'll work on the speed and distance. Good luck on not seeing a gain this month.

I did my first 28 minute run today. It was slow as can be but I covered 2.5 miles which isn't too bad. At least I did it right?

Tomorrow's plan is a circuit training DVD although I haven't decided which yet.

LOL, Tracey.

I haven't worked out since Thursday. Poor time management on Friday because of all-day meetings. We went to some friends' house for dinner on Saturday and both Len and I got sick. The food was disgusting. We ended up laying around today because we were so dehydrated.

Thanks Tracey

Yesterday, I went to work with a scratchy throat (bad idea esp. at a university) and came home with an even worse scratchy throat, watery eyes, sneezing. Yep, allergy season. I popped some Benadryl and slept from 7pm until 8am this morning (I was awaken by DH's tossing, turning and snoring....His sinus allergies have flared up too ). I feel alright now but in the evening, the symptoms come back with a vengence.

I'm completely off track with my running this week. I am planning a lighter schedule this week since I'm not feeling 100%. I am planning 2 runs and 2 circuit workouts. I will be flying to San Francisco on Friday morning to present at a conference and coming back home that evening (because my damned university won't pay for any travel expenses and I'm paying out of my own pocket to do my job - Bastards ).

I posted my one month stats in the Month 2 challenge photo thread but here they are:
Age: 36 (no change)
Height: 5'6" (no change)
Weight: 210.8 (down 5.8lbs)
Chest: 44.5 (down 2")
Arms: 13 (no change)
Waist: 37 (down 1")
Low Abs: 43.5 (down 0.5")
Hips: 43.5 (down 0.5")
Thighs: 24 (down 1")

Down 5.8lbs and 5 inches which is not bad at all. This month is starting out a bit rocky but I know I can pick things up once I get my allergies back under control.

Nice job Donna!!!

And that really sucks that you have to pay out of pocket to do your job!!! What would they do if you told 'em you weren't paying to fly to SF??

Sorry about the allergies. I have 'em bad, so I sympathize. What's up w/ the jokers at your university? I can't believe they aren't paying your travel expenses. Well, remember to keep you receipts b/c you can get a tax deduction for unreimbursed business expenses.

Not bad at all, in fact I'd say it's pretty damn good! And sorry, I'm jealous of the weather too. This fall has been coming in with a lot of heavy rain-went out to do run 2 of the 4th week of c25k and after completing my first 3min it just started pouring to the point where I could barely see. I was hoping to push through it, but headed back in as the lightening and thunder started. So I only got in the first half of the run. I've really got to get a treadmill for days like this. Anywho, hope your allergies get better. Have you tried the eating local honey thing at the change of seasons? My husband has mild allergies and that usually does wonders for him.

Tracey and Evie - The administrators will claim budget cuts. They advised us all to do only local conferences which is BS given that conferences in your field can occur anywhere. I got them to pay for my plane ticket with my professional development money from my contract but they refuse to pay for my per diem expenses even though I have enough to cover my damned lunch

All4Love - Never heard of using honey for allergies. Do you simply take a certain amount of spoonfuls?

Annette and Katydid - Thanks for the congrats.

No workout yet. My nephew has been hospitalized with breathing problems (he's doing better but that was scary) and one of my closest friends from grad school passed away from complications of breast cancer and diabetes. It's just been a stressful couple of day.

Too bad you can't spend the weekend in SF! Such a fun city. We got married at City Hall there. Haven't been back in several years as we have been working on becoming debt-free. Hope to visit there next year.

So sorry to hear about your friend and your nephew. I hope things are looking up soon. You've done a great job in the challenge, though!

Sally - I love SF. When I was looking for faculty jobs, the Bay Area was my top choice. Thanks for the well wishes. My nephew is back home now and I'm on my way to see my little pumpkin

Evie - Thanks for your well wishes as well. It's been a rough few days but one must move forward.

I managed to do 40 minutes of step aerobics this morning and it significantly lifted my mood. I'm hoping to get back to my runs once I get back from SF.

Hi Donna! You know what hubby does is just use it whenever he would use honey. Tea,pancakes, biscuits etc. I get local honey from the farmers market. As far as I know, there aren't any research studies that prove that it works, but I have found it works well for him and others we know that have tried it.

Sade - Hmmm, honey for allergies sounds like my grandmother's remedy of flavored concentrated cod liver oil. It tasted like crap but man did that break up chest congestion in a flash.

I just completed my first 30 minute run EVER!!! Honestly, I thought I'd run about 20 minutes or so since I hadn't run in a week. But somehow I got into the zone and pushed myself to the end. I completed 2.5 miles which is my longest distance as well. I have 2 more workouts to complete the Couch-to-5K program and then I'll start working on speed and distance. Wahoo!

Definitely something along that lines on the honey.

And red carpet roll........ GREAT job on the 30min. It's so gratifying when you do things you never thought possible!

Just remember it has to be local honey. That is crucial!

The concept behind it, (I believe) is that the pollen gathered (and thus made into honey) introduces a small amount into your system, and thus allows your body to accept it and not act as an allergen. Or perhaps it works in the same way a vaccine does? I dunno

I could be totally wrong on the last bit, but my brother was 'prescribed' local honey for years, by his allergist and it actually did make a huge difference.

If it turns out to be beneficial, look into purchasing bee pollen from your local honey supplier. It's just a lot more potent.

My abs and thighs were screaming on Monday so I didn't workout but yesterday I was just plain ol' lazy . Today, I completed W9D2 of the Couch to 5K and I've got one more work to complete the program.

I maintained my weight this week which I was pleased with given all that was going on. Tomorrow's plan is Cathe's Pyramid Lower Body (only going "up" the pyramid doing giant sets instead of super giant sets prescribed on this full workout).

Well I hope all those lunges do not fatigue your legs too much tomorrow. I avoid lunges and step-ups starting two days before a hike. But running on the flat might be different.

I did it! I did it! I just completed the Couch to 5K program I actually started out power walking in April following the Jillian Michaels iFit program for 10 weeks. But soon I needed a greater challenge and I had tried and failed to do the C25K back in '05. My program took many unexpected twists and turns but I'm so excited to have followed through on a plan

Now, my running pace is incredibly slow (about 14.30 minute per mile or 4.2mph ) but considering I could barely do incline pace walks at 3mph, this is a vast improvement. I plan to continue to improve my pace incrementally so that I can actually complete a 5K in 30 minutes. I'm looking to do 2-3 runs per week and continue my circuit training.

DH paid me the biggest compliment this morning. He said that he could see a vast improvement in the shape of my back and rear delts. I'm so happy because my upper back and my entire torso are my trouble areas. Consistency is starting to pay off.

Moondust - It wasn't the lunges that made me sore. It was the DB pullovers and pec flyes. The weights I used in that workout were on the lighter side, esp. for lower body work. I did that intentionally knowing I had a run coming up. I missed running yesterday because I procrastinated and got busy with work stuff.

Thanks Tracey and Evie for your cheerleading and support

Congrats on finishing your first 5K run! That must have been an awesome feeling

As much as I ever cycled, I can honestly say to never have run more than 1K after another, so you already are my hero!
