I'll do a sign-up thread later, but here are the 'rules' from the last challenge. I've made notes in red which need addressing....
OK, here is the un-official sign-up thread for the 2009 September-??? challenge. (this is up to the majority - should we end in January and start another one then, or do you just want to run 6 months) If you want to participate in the challenge, just sign in here so we can get an idea of how many are up for it. I figured I'd start it now so this will give everyone a month to see the thread and get signed up and ready. There will be a separate thread for our beginning pics and stats due September 8th. (again, do we allow an extra week because of short notice)
Rules (basically, the same rules Julie originally gave us in January 2008!)
1. You can do any plan ... does NOT have to be NROL4W ... you can change plans mid-stream ... but you have to state what your plan is .
2. You MUST post your beginning stats and photos by midnight EST September 8th. You must also post pictures once each month. If you don't want to post your pictures, then this challenge isn't for you. Everyone who posts their photos on time each month move on in the challenge. If you miss an update, you won't be in the challenge.
3. You are encouraged to keep a log in the training log forum. That way when you complain that you aren't making progress, we can look and see what you might/might not be doing that is contributing.
4. The challenge will run for ??? months ... you will be required to post progress photos and stats by the first Monday of each month and the final pics will be due on TBD. I encourage you to mark the first Monday of every month on your calendar so you will have a reminder. Winner will be decided by poll.

Thoughts? Input? I didn't call this a sign-up thread (I can do that once we've decided). I'm not going to participate, but I don't mind starting the monthly threads and such.
De-lurking to say that I've been thinking of starting a log and getting serious, so this would be great for me!
I've lost 10 pounds over the last month and a half or so, just by weighing my food and counting calories, and I have about 30-40 pounds to go. I've read NROL4W and have started it twice now, but haven't made it past the first couple workouts in Stage 2.
I found the challenges quite helpful. I think unless there's an outcry we'll do 6 months. For those that don't have a log, I'd definitely encourage you to start one. For everyone, I would encourage you to post a picture in your logs as practice.
Somehow the new challenge that Anne is starting up right now has motivated me to put my ass into gear, plus seeing how she is consistent as ever.
Doesn't mean I'm going to participate in the challenge though
1 still far too camera-shy (though it'd be good to be forced to do monthly progress pix/measurements)
2 my goals are more strength- than wt-loss focused
However, I still have this idea in the back of my head to get to 58kg by the end of this year IF I want to do an Oly-meet.. if that doesn't pan out, the 2nd opportunity would be early March which just so happens to coincide with the end of that challenge.
BTW, Anne , I love it that you are NOT ending a challenge @ Dec 31 or starting one on Jan, 1.. those are such booooooooring dates to end/start challenges on.. start of autumn/spring is better.
Which reminds me.. why wouldn't some people want to start the challenge with the goal to gain muscle? Winter season is the perfect time for this
Well, I'll end up doing what people want. So far it's 2 for 6 months, 2 for 4 months, and 2 who didn't state a preference.
Although I don't plan to participate I should note that I've kind of stopped taking progress pictures / measurements / etc. since I dropped out of the last challenge. There is something about having a specific date/time to report these things that tends to keep people in line.
I do think that the January challenges do tend to attract a larger percentage of 'resolution' types. I notice we get a fair number of people in at that time who may not even stick around and post starting pictures. I think I need to get back to monthly pictures myself, even if I'm not posting them.
I think I'm in. I started a log at the beginning of summer, but only made 1 post. I do keep a spreadsheet at home that I use to track my progress on NROL4W. This challenge will coincide with my finishing NROL4W.
I'm debating if I want to do the challenge. It would be good b/c it would represent a new level of commitment to my diet and to this forum. But I am awfully camera shy.... Like Espi, I think the idea alone is inspiring, whether I participate or not. Btw, 4 mos v. 6 mos won't make a difference in my decision.
You can cut your head off, or stick a smiley face in it's place. I used to blur the face using my software. And although most wore bikinis or underwear, and some wore shorts, you can choose what you wear. Granted, something tight fitting shows changes best.
Oh, and the one other thing I should have asked is if it needs to be a women's challenge still? I don't think it matters, but I should have asked as well.
I used to be like you. In sports massage class (mixed) when I found out I had to walk around in my underwear, at 17 stone no less (230+ pounds) I gave the instructor a look that would have withered stone, and dropped out a few days later. About a year after that, in an attempt to be more accountable, I put a 'before' pic on my blog, but blanked out my face. (Didn't work)
I started this year at 224 pounds, no measurements and lost a stone in three months. Then I did a 12 week Turbulence Training challenge with before and after pics. By the time I finished, about a week ago, I was so proud of the changes I was happy to post my pics online for all the world to see and I only wish that I had before pics and measurements from January so I could see really how far I've come.
When we posted our 'befores' all the other girls were wingeing about how embarrassed they were to have let themselves go so much. If any of them were above a size 10 I'd be amazed. At the end of the day, we are not our bodies but what is in our heads. Even if you don't post your pics, I suggest you take them, with your measurements for your own benefit. And then one day you will be able to look back and see what you have achieved.
By the way, is it OK if we start our 6 months (or four months) before September 8th? I am officially beginning NROL4W today. Have just had hubby take some more before photos - [whispers] ones where I wasn't breathing in! http://forums.jpfitness.com/images/smilies/redface.gif
So I don't have any sort of training log. If I start one in the challenge forum, is there a way I could later move it to the training log forum after the challenge ends? (Still figuring stuff out here....)
What type of photos are we talking about? Is there a standard set of photos we need to supply or is it just whatever we feel shows our worst or best sides?
Most people post front, rear and side views... however, it's whatever you want really. If you were going to muscle gain then you might post a flexed position. That's another point really, not everyone is going for fat loss. It really is for any plan that people are doing.
I'm in. Tried posting pics in the other thread but it is showing an error. Just tell me when. I took pics staurday the 22nd and started a new workout today.
Anne,
I think I will participate. I might reach goal weight in 6 months, so I'll vote for that.
This is it?.....:
1. I have to state my plan, and I can change my plan
2. I MUST post my beginning stats and photos by midnight EST September 8th. I must also post pictures once each month.
3. I am encouraged to keep a log in the training log forum.
4. The challenge will run for ??? months ...
5. I will be required to post progress photos and stats by the first Monday of each month and the final pics will be due on TBD.
6. Winner will be decided by poll.
What about stating your goal/s?
How do you know how you did if you don't state your goals?
You could add your goals if you want. Some people do, I don't remember if I ever did. Of course I'm biased as I rarely set long term goals. I'm just happy if I finish out the day sometimes.
Oh, this is perfect. I've pretty much taken the summer off...but need to get back on track (both with a deficit/regular program plan *and* with logging/forum participation). I'm in. 6 mos. sounds good.
