AHA!! You just totally reminded me of a recipe my dad gave me some years ago!! It's for omelets in a bag. You put your eggs and whatever veggies/meats/cheese you want in a freezer ziploc bag, then just slosh it around until it's all mixed up, then put it in a pot of boiling water until it's done. I think I remember you have to squeeze out the extra air before you put it in the pot, or it floats up.
It was really, really good. Don't remember the exact timing, but probably 10 mins or so, you can tell when it's set.
So I guess it is safe to boil those bags? Yay! I bet I can google some recipes for that then . . .mmmm
Lookie, lookie, a workout!
Workout 5B of Stage 1
Deadlifts
1x10x55
2x10x60
Dumbbell press
10x15e
10x10e
10x15e
Wide-grip Lat Pulldown
10x80
2x10x70
Lunges
3x10 (bottle of water in each hand)
Swiss-ball Crunch
3x12
Notes: ~adding the extra set of reps really kicked my hindend. I wasn't sure how it was going to effect the deadlifts so I went back down a couple of pounds on the weight. It worked fine, and I was tired by the end of the set
~the lunges are still unbelievably hard. I think it is a mixture of being worn out by the time I get to them, and just them being hard for me to start with. Today when I got to it, I was really dizzy and it effected my balance badly. (I think the dizziness had more to do with allergies than anything. I have really bad allergies)
~also towards the end I was nauseous to my stomach, especially with the lunges and crunches. Like I said, I'm almost sure it was allergy related though.
~ I DID eat 450 calories and 38 grams of protein before the workout (a protein shake, an oatmeal bar and hot tea), and ate 1/4 cup of sunflower seeds right after, so I did have food going in.

Actually, a pretty nifty idea : scramble eggs in a bag.
Nearly all the time I'm eating soup as my last meal of the day .. not just my favourite because soup can fill you up so well, but also because you can make it so easily with frozen veggies & meat/chicken or fish. Just buy the meat etc in bulk, portion them (mostly just 1 piece at the time or 100g for minced beef) &.. plunk it in the water.
As of late I've become a fan of boiling an egg along at the last (few) minutes, but I still don't know exactly what is the best way to make a perfect 'egg drop' soup. It's either that I stir it up too much or I'm waiting too long.. *now I've got to run off and bing/google it *
BTW, I've done the math for protein sources per 100g of protein and generally dairy comes out first with whole eggs as a close second. However, egg whites are on tie with chicken breasts or white fish & tuna.
Whole chicken turn out to be way more expensive per 100g protein.. it's quite deceptive how little protein you end up with for 1 chicken... breasts are a lot cheaper!
I beleive Leigh mentioned omelet in a bag on the Fit Cast a few weeks ago - I am so behind on the episodes, so it may have been longer.
Yup, I think it was about three weeks ago.

I think the key is that it has to be the freezer bags, not just the "storage" bags. I think freezer bags would be less likely to melt in the boiling water.
And yeah, I know Leigh has posted stuff, particularly on flzine.com, about plastics leaching into food being overly drummed up, but personally I'm still hesitant to boil anything in plastic and then eat said food. Guess I'm paranoid.

I'll have to double check on what kind of plastic bag to use for the "boiled" scrambled eggs recipe. One of my friends used to make that regularly for her brood of 4 kids, and it was always a hit. She loved the fact that it took minimal work on her part to make.
Freezer bags. They don't melt in the water, but if you let the bag droop over the side of the pot, the part that touches the pot will melt. So use a really big pot.
I buy the Costco eggs by the 5 dozen crate. I find just egg white alone is kind of bland. Usually, I will use one whole egg, and then 4 or 5 whites to make omeletes or scrambled eggs. That gives the color/taste of real egg with lots of protein, but eliminates a lot of the fat.
I am going to log my food for all of this week, since i am trying to learn to be as accurate as I can, and keep my calories in total check:
Food:
Tuesday Aug 11th.
B:hot tea (50)
pre wo: protein shake (250), benefit bar (130)
post wo: 1/4 cup of raw sunflower seeds (205)
L: 6 inch grilled chix sub (425)
snacks at work: one unbuttered bread stick w/ three dips of marinara (100), 4 very small cheese 'balls' (200)
S: hot tea (50)
D) 6 inch grilled chix sub (425)
Total calories 1835
Protein at least 120 or so.
The only thing I wish I hadn't ate was those cheese balls. The cook had fixed them for us to be nice, and I kinda felt like I should eat some. They really weren't that good. I know, stupid, stupid.
Currently I am pondering the concept of going to two days lifting (instead of 3) and increasing my cardio days to def 2 and maybe 3. I don't love the idea, but I would certainly do it in order to see quicker results. Or I could just keep the 3 days lifting and have 2 or 3 days cardio anyway . . but that might hinder recovering between lifting days.
I am going to make it either way, so it's just a matter of finding my groove.
Tonight was 80's trivia night at the pub! We all dressed 80's style (I was rocking bright pinks, shirt tied at the waist, flat white canvas shoes, and a scarf) and it was a blast. I really wanted some bright blue eyeshadow but I don't have any here at the house, and it was too late to run to the dollar store.
I shoulda took a picture

I am building calluses on my hands, where I grip. Yuck
I wear workout gloves to protect them, but I don't guess it is working. I know around here y'all aren't keen on workout gloves, but I have been really trying to protect my hands from getting that tough feel.
What do you do to keep from building calluses?
Currently when I put lotion on after a shower, I blend a deep moisturizer with jojoba oil and use it as a total body lotion. This naturally is on my hands a lot too. Also once every two weeks, I use a penetrating lotion and keep them in gloves all night.
I also have bruises above my knees (presumably from the deadlifts?) but that doesn't bother me as much.
The hands do though . . .

My hands are callused. I guess I never really cared about it though. I use lotion twice a day, but my hands are sort of a lost cause. In the winter my knuckles crack and bleed no matter what I do. I think it has something to do with how often I wash them.
I have a Mary Kay kit called Satin Hands that is really nice. It has 4 steps I think? Might be something to look into if you know anyone that sells it.
No, I use Splenda. I am figuring 50 calories b/c of the Coffeemate non-dairy creamer. The nutritional guideline says 10 calories per teaspoon and I use two 'normal' spoons, so to be super safe I have been figuring 5 measured teaspoons.
It's probably another one of those instances where I am overestimating a tad but I consume so much of it, that I don't want it so be a silent saboteur I will weigh it when I get my food scale in and have a better idea.
Dear Ms.Beesknees,
Yes, I have the satin hands line (or at least the lotion of it) and I like it a lot. I am just going to have to stay on top of the lotion thing I suppose.
Also, the best way I have found to moisturize is by using a deep moisturizing body cream mixed (in the palm of your hand) with some jojoba oil right after getting out of the shower. It locks the moisture in and genuinely works wonders. It might be something worth considering. Honestly, I only moisturize once a day, and it really works wonders for me. I get a lot of compliments on my skin (which sounds crazy I know)
random tip that has changed my life: My mom has eczema and her feet (specifically heels) would always be so dry, crack and bleed. Really painful stuff. Anyway, so I was trying to figure out a way to help her heels and I read this article that mentioned putting Vick's vap-o-rub on your feet at night, covering with socks and it really helping.
OMG! It is like a miracle. You just put the Vick's on your feet (we use generic) slip your socks on, and it totally heals them up! It did for her, what no perscription medicine had been able to do. I use it to on my 'normal' but prone to be dry feet, and it works just as marvelously.
I highly reccomend it to try. Just give it a week and you will be amazed . . . if you have dry feet. LOL.

Believe it or not, Vick's also seems to work on some cases of toenail fungus. I read about it totally did not believe it, but I was about to get a prescription for that lamasil or whatever, and decided to try the Vick's instead. One toenail is completely cleared up now (after about 3 years of being infected) and another is halfway clear. It takes a long time, but apparently so do the prescription drugs. Anyway... more than anyone wanted to know about my toes, I'm sure.

That is neat to know. I guess it is the Mentholatum in it, since then I have noticed that some 'healing' foot lotions have that as an active ingredient
Well since we are disclosing things about ourselves, I will admit that I learned the Vick's vap-o-rub trick while reading an article in Cosmo LOL
It was titled something like "Top 10 Cheap/Free things that Models do to look gorgeous", or something like that.
I was breezing through it, and saw the part about the feet and perked up because of mom's troubles.
I remember the #1 thing was eye drops, btw.

Oh yeah! I think I learned about using Preparation H on swollen facial blemishes in Cosmo.
hot tea x3 (150)
turkey sand (200)
small potato/no cal butter spray (150)
1/4 cup raw sunflower seeds (205)
banana (100)
bites @ work *1/2 biscuit, one bite of ham,one bite of chix casserole (300)
2 potatoes with 2 slices FF cheese and no cal butter spray (425)
calories: 1530 protein: pitiful (maybe 60 grams?)
Notes:
~So today started out well with the turkey sandwich and potato for lunch. My mistake was, that I was up at 8am, and by the time I went to work at 5pm, I had only had 605 calories. I got hungry around 7pm and took a few random bites of things.
~The 'bites at work' was two bites of an extra biscuit, one small piece of a country ham (maybe an ounce?), and sorta big bite of a chix casserole. There is no 'real' way to get the calories . . so I just guessed high.
~The two potatoes I had for dinner were small, they fit in the palm of my hand (and I have small hands), and the cheese was 25 cals a piece. (I look forward to having that scale, today it really would have helped my accuracy)
I don't really consider this day a dietary success . . . there were other factors at play however
The other factors:
Today I had a job interview at 9am It is not somewhere that I normally would have thought about working, but the more I investigate the company the more interested I am. They have awesome benefits (401K, three weeks paid vacation your first year, full health insurance for about $20 a week, etc). Also the money is good.
My background is in full service fine dining (I managed about a 3 1/2 star restaurant), this is like a trendy coffee/sandwich atmosphere. Very yuppie, all fresh products. That sort of thing.
I really got a good impression of it, and they did call me back about 4 hours after the interview this morning to schedule a second interview for Friday morning (the day after tomorrow)
I have another interview tomorrow morning at 9am (the result of those phone interviews) with the type of restaurant I am more used to.
We shall see right?
I am excited to be moving forward in the interview process. Three interviews in three days . . . this might require another potato dinner. lol

I admire those of you who can work in food service. It must be so demanding. I'm sure with all your interviews you'll land a great job. Good luck!

Thank you ladies! Espi, yes my concern is that it wouldn't cultivate my experience level. I honestly think it's the job I would like a lot more, but I don't want to stagnate my resume.
The catch 22 is that I have only had about 2 years of salaried management, and that is about the least people will accept as 'experience', so I am competing against folks with a lot more relative experience than I have.
BUT then I go back and forth thinking perhaps I would like to evolve my knowledge to something less BOH (back of the house) toward something more FOH (front of the house). There is a growing market of these 'upscale' eateries that will have limited hot food choices (say they nix the fryer and the grill) and provide more in the way of 'fresh prep' selections. Also, not having to deal with freakin' servers would be like a dream come true. LOL
So, I suppose it would simply grow my resume in a new direction. (?) (I could be rationalizing here) Having said that, the company I am interviewing with has incredibly low turnover with the franchise stores. (They have 16 stores, and I am the first interview they given in a year)

I don't think you're rationalizing when you mention that the coffee place would give you experience in a new direction. It would give you additional experience, and future potential employers might like the flexibility.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you on the interview, and hope you get the job! It's a coffee place after all, my favorite drink. And the fact that it will provide more career growth for you is wonderful.
