They're both funny, but the one working on his hair... you just know that he added those 30 mins into his 'workout time' for the day.

I know. It was really surreal. lol

Exercise:

did the 200 swings from the competition
4x25 double handed swings
2x25 left handed swings
2x25 right handed swings

Notes:

~Today was my rest day from exercise, but I had been readying about the swing challenge and wanted to see how it would be.

~I didn't want to go to the gym, and I don't have kettlebells, so I used a gallon of 2% milk instead.

~Didn't take that long, but it was a good workout.

Don't know that I am out to join the challenge, though I am entertaining the idea admittedly, but I did want to see if it was even feasible.

At first I thought some type of rehab or something, but he wasn't 'focusing' or anything, he was simply using light weights. No kidding, he probably did 200 reps . . with all different variations. Very odd seeing a 'big guy' do 10lb preacher curls, letmetellya.
I think this guy just visited my gym on Tuesday. Pretty much the exact same thing happened. I was going YTWLs with 10s, huffing and puffing, while the guy next to me was working his triceps with 10s, huffing and puffing. He then proceeded to the incline bench press and loaded it with 2x45s per side (225lbs total). There must be something about DBs that make people think they can't lift them.

Our gym has DBs that weight over 100lb each (I'll look today to see how high they really go). I've never seen anyone use about 45s. My goal is to get to the 60lbs ones. Watch everyone stare then.

There is a guy at my gym - a little older then your guy...maybe 40? He grabs the 8 lb (Or less? they are on a separate tower so I have never looked at them) dumbbells and does the same. He looks like he should be able to handle at least 30's or more based on his size, but you just never know what people are doing - or who told them to do what they are doing

I got to use a 50 lbs DB the other day, which made me feel pretty darn cool.

I looooove KB swings! Aren't they fun! I was somewhat tempted to try the swing challenge, too, but don't think I can do it at the same time I am finishing NROLFW. Maybe I will do like you and try to do the 200 swings in my next off-week. BTW, you can use a DB for swings, too. That way you don't risk the lid coming off your milk carton and getting milk all over the place.....

LOL, I know you can. I was at the house and wanted to try out my form with the swings, and didn't want to go to the gym.

The gallon of milk seemed simple enough, and it worked fairly well.

I haven't done my swings yet today and I am debating on what I want to use for them. I have been sick all day (chills, shakes, and threw up once) so I don't really feel like going to the gym.

I will if I have to . . but I don't want to.

Maybe I can bum around and find something to swing here at the house . . . .

Hope you feel better soon. And I'd like to know what else you find to swing for the challenge.

So, I just with a gallon of distilled white vinegar. Basically the same things, so I get no points for creativity on that one.

Rest day other than the 200 swings.

I would not have done those, but it's part of the Challenge and I'm too stubborn not too. hee hee

Other than that, normalo dayo. Kept the calories fairly low, and took the EC stack.

I am probably winding down on that for a while though.

I like the idea of the challenge being a challenge to find new stuff to swing every day.

I hope you feel better soon-- don't push yourself too hard while you are sick.

Cruised back through the last couple of pages, and can't find any mention of a challenge. What did I miss? What type of challenge are we talking about? Is there a place I can read up on it? I like reading about different ways to train. Plus, I'm curious to know what you're working on now.

It's the kettlebell swing challenge that they are talking about at the "Training Discussion" forum. It's actually a challenge off facebook that a few people on here are doing. It is simply 200 'swings' everyday. No matter how you go about doing them. I don't have kettlebells, so I am using dumbbells (well I used a gallon of milk the first time)

Actually, it's not really my thing, but I do want to get comfortable with this and the benefit in "Life according to Roland" is better posterior chain support, and a firmer butt. I could use both of those things.

Like I said, I am not really one of the cool people that actually knows about this stuff (Roland, Ben, etc). Pretty much I am just the geeky little awkward kid that is tagging along (and using the wrong equipment) and they are putting up with it.

I figure that is the consequence of posting in a public forum, they have to put up with stuff like that.

On the 'eats' side, today was boring, actually ate a few too many calories, and def the wrong type of food. There was some decent stuff stuck in there (turkey sandwich, pack of tuna, etc . .) but I also had a mini snickers and a baloney sandwich.

Ended the day around 1800 calories.

Exercise:

45 min walk around the compound

Dumbbells shoulder presses
3x10x15e

Squats
3x10x15e

Double handed swings
4x25x10

Left handed swings
2x25x10

Right handed swings
2x25x10

Notes:

~Oh. My. God. That looks like nothing, but it kicked my butt. I was still weak, and not feeling well, and also haven't been eating like I should. I knew right away the tank was empty and that is why I cut the walk a bit short. If I had finished it, I don't know that I could have finished.

~I did the swings after the squats and it was SOOOO hard! It probably would have made more sense to do the swings first, but I really wanted to get the squats in. I knew I would do the swings no matter what, because of the challenge .. . so I cheated and got the squats in while I felt human.

~I should have done some planks too . . I am leaning too much on these shoulder presses. Gotta mix it up a bit.

Other notes:

~I think I am over the EC stack for a while. That is more than likely a contributor to why I haven't felt good the past couple of days. Gonna lay off the juice.

Had a big calorie day. We are going to have a Family Thanksgiving tomorrow at brother's house, so I decided to make this weekend a free/cheat weekend.

Exercise:

Planks
2x45sec.

Double Handed Swings
4x25x15

Left Handed swings
2x25x10

Right Handed Swings
2x25x10

Didn't feel like it, but did it anyway cause of the challenge.

I think squats before swings always. Reason is that it is more dangerous to do squats and doing them fatigued can result in worse damage. I always try to do the big lifts when I am more fresh for that reason.

Makes sense. Pretty much my legs are like jelly.

I will say that we had a pre-Thanksgiving over at Brother's house today and every one was teasing me about my exercise and such . . so my sister in law says "Show us the guns" and I flexed my biceps. (which I never do)

I was actually amazed that there IS honest to goodness muscle definition. I have actual muscles, like the kind that can be flexed and made to look bigger.

They were all oohing and awwing over it. What they didn't know was that I was just as surprised as they were! LOL

Calorie wise today was murder. I am figuring 3000 calories, and that is probably quite safe. . . but even if it wasn't it wouldn't really matter, I meant it as a free day.

I didn't want to exercise at all, but I did come home and do the 200 swings for the challenge. That is day 5 of that.

Legs are staying sore with it, and I suppose that is the idea. It's kindof the equivalent of 200 mini-squats per day. Yeah, I am not the superhero that I would like to think I am.

I think it's great that you're even doing 200 swings, and during 5 days when you've not been feeling very well, too.

When I discovered I had bicepts, I spent about 20 minutes flexing in front of the mirror. My boyfriend teased me relentlessly about my vanity. But I didn't care. It's pretty cool to find you have distinct parts to your arm, after going years with just twigs stuck in you.

Thanks for explaining the challenge. It sounds like a good workout. Definitely going to be watching that one.

Congrats on having the fortitude to continue the challenge while not feeling well. I'm afraid of getting sick because I worry I may lose the drive to go to the gym after I have recovered. I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Showing off the gunz!

The swings got to me last night because my legs were pretty tired from my run. Its interesting to me to see how even tough I have been using the same weight for them, sometimes its much harder/pukier.

Yeah, they are not awesome enough for constant flexing, but it is slightly comforting knowing they are there. It's important to have those little milestones.

For me it is sort of the opposite, when I am sick, it seems like I want to go to the gym worse than ever. The first few days that I 'feel good again' are by far the easiest ones to go make myself work out.

I know, tonight I did a lighter weight. I am hoping to build up to at least 20lb double handed ones by the time the challenge is over. I think that is the weights you are at now.

I have done the swings the past two days, so this makes day 7 of that for me.

Not much else to report. My weight has gone up by 4lbs, which is crazy depressing, but I know it can't be real weight gain, still . . . it sucks to have my weight up as high as it was 2 months ago

I am going low cal though, 1000 calorie days, for the next little bit. I just need to kick some of this off . . .

And I need a big WOOSH!

Going to have to kick the activity level up a bit too. It hurts me when my schedule is 'closing' at work, because that is normally my workout time. I have a hard time getting a workout in before work. I don't know why exactly, it just is really hard for me.

It's hard for me to workout before work, too. Mostly b/c I can't stand to get up that early in the morning. I used to do a 6:00 am spin class when I was in school. That would not have been possible w/o the timer on the coffee pot. I wouldn't even consider doing that now, even w/ the coffee pot timer.

Okay so the weight is water from your HUGE cheat day. And four lbs ain't nothing. My guess is that it will woosh by end of next week even if you ate more reasonable calories. Be careful eating too low calories for too many days in a row.

Okay, I am in a bit of a funk. I have overeaten the past two days, today was ridiculous. I HAVE to change this.

I felt it coming on last week. Now I am in a pickle, cause I need to do my 200 kettlebell swings, but it is midnight and I have to be at work at 4:30am and I need to go to bed

I guess I will just do the 30 day challenge, but not 30 days in a row.

It's been nice cause I really haven't been through any funks in the last three or four months, but I sure do hate this feeling

Your overeating is probably a result of having been ill last week & now finally recovered. Another thing is mental: the first day was allowed for & then suddenly the next day you aren't newly motivated to resume dieting as eating a lot of food is FUN!

I've told myself that eating at maintenance is OK, but suddenly find myself overeating by a lot more than I'd planned for! That's why I need to ban junkfood. Not because it's bad, but because the density of it causes me to eat wayyy more calories than planned for. Not good when maintenance isn't in the 3000s just like my eats are..

This is sooo true and exactly what I do.

Sorry about your funk, Cadi. And don't worry about the swings, you need your rest. A little bit at a time may be best with your food rather than jumping straight into low cal days.
