I'm not sure what parameters your Garmin uses to calculate burn, but I know GoWear Fits are supposed to be pretty inaccurate for "incline walking"/hiking. Could very well be that your Garmin is off.

I get an error message when clicking on the Grind link.

http://www.grousemountain.com/Summer...ouse-grind.asp Maybe this will work?

Yeah, I figure the Garmin didn't take into account the ascent, which was 850m.

If you upload your hike either to your PC or to the website, it will show you the elevation changes so you can see if it noticed the difference or not.

That link worked. Thanks! Yes, Grouse Mountain does look cool. If I ever make it to Vancouver, I'll definitely have to check it out.

I read an article somewhere (UK Runner's World?) that was all about the writers visit to Vancouver and his attempts at the Grouse Grind. It looked like hard work so kudos to you for doing it!

The Garmin must be wrong...144 cals in 52 mins at that incline? No way.

Weight loss looks good. I'm envious of your thigh reducing 1". Mine went the other way.

Thanks!!! I guess I worded my sentence wrong, I meant that my Garmin showed an ascent of 850m but clearly didn't take it into account for caloric burn.

There are so many beautiful places around Vancouver that if you love hiking, the possibilities are pretty endless!!!

Yeah, we do the Grind a couple times a year, it's only open in the late spring through to the fall because of snow. I'd love to get my time down to 50mins.....

Some fat must be moving off my body b/c hubby noticed on our trip that I'm a little skinnier. And then when clothes shopping, I further understood how different your sizes can be depending on the brand. For example, Banana Republic, I bought size 4 pants. Could have been the cut. Roxy jeans, size 7. Go figure.

That's probably because Banana Republic is Misses sized and the Roxy jeans are Juniors sized.......really different cuts.

Good point! At any rate, I've learned not to get too hung up on sizes anymore.

August 25 Caloric update:

I was really good and I had about 200 cals left when we went to the Fair! I then consumed 3 mini-donuts......According to fitday, a regular sized cake donut w/ sugar on it is 200 cals so this worked out okay. On other food notes, when I made the spaghetti last night, I decided to weight out two servings according to the box: 170g. I then cooked it and it was waay more pasta than hubby and I would eat. Point being: serving sizes are too large on boxes. Another point: I always cook too much pasta the rare time we have it!

August 26 Weight update:
122lbs!!!!

In our house pasta is usually 2oz (50g) per person if it's a pasta based dish but when I have pasta on my own as a carb source along with protein and veg, I find that 25g is plenty.

Congrats on the 122! I was 122.5 today which isn't seen very often. Calorie counting works!

Looking back at the past few weights you've posted, we most definitely could be weight twins!

I notice that, that I'm tending towards 50-60g for pasta, although occasionally when I'm in the mood I'll make more. It depends on what else I'm eating with it I suppose.

Oh, and congrats on the 122!

OPT B1
Supersets, 3x12

Wide DB DL 20's
OH Squats 5's (I really suck at these)

Close grip pushups
Lateral raise 5's

DB get-ups: This felt wrong and awkward so I thought I was doing them wrong. It turns out, you can assist with your free arm. I thought you had to do it without and I was too weak to do it!!! Next time.
Jack knifes: I don't have a swiss ball so I did some straight-leg crunches and called it a day.

Both Etana and I had that issue with the DB get-ups, thinking we couldn't assist with the free arm (though I thankfully figured it out before I started; just watched a bunch of videos first). But yeah, I'm certainly not at the point where I could do them without my other arm helping.

Swiss/exercise balls are really inexpensive. Also nice for sitting on, in addition to workouts. I have one at work and one at home.

This is true but honestly, we don't have space for it. Especially since we don't have an office or even a work desk to put the ball instead of a chair. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms in 980 sq.ft. doesn't give us much space, we're clearing out the accumulated stuff in the second bedroom to make way for a nursery.

The nursery is definitely more important.

August 27
My body is sore, especially my shoulders!!!
Weight: 122
Cardio: OFF
Training: OFF
Cals: Fasting **not for dieting reasons** Today is a cardio day but I figured cardio + fasting day is not smart.

We're hosting a wine tasting party on Saturday with food pairings and last night we bought the wines for it! It's going to be sooo good. We have two viogniers (one from chile and one from N.Z.), two shiraz-viogniers (one from france, on from Australia), a French grenache-blanc and viognier blend, a riesling, a Calina reserve cab. sauv., and a spanish red. But then this made us want to open up a bottle so we opened up a bottle of a table white from Orgeon. It was super fruity, apple-finish. Wine snobs would say that it lacked acidity and balance and complexity but it was a nice sipper while watching Australia! Plus, I kind of get today's 1200 cals for that and for later when we break the fast.

And I'm contemplating entering the challenge. Although, my goals are all short-term. If I can just diet for the next 3.5 weeks and get down to 118 and I'm happy with the look, I'll stop there and then ramp up my running. If not, then I'll finish out OPT. Hmmmm

Weight: 121lbs!!!!

So, maybe that's not a true new low but after fasting all day, I had late-night all you can eat sushi last night......So hopefully some remnants of the 121's stick around.

Today's plans include a walk with a friend, B1, shopping for my party and then starting some baking/prep-work for the party.

Thanks, only time will tell if it's truly a weight that's going to stick around.

I am sooo excited for our party tomorrow night! We're featuring Viognier and Shiraz-Viogniers. Including, food paired with the wines. I'm making smoked salmon w/ bread that I may make w/ a wasabi cream cheese, nuts, california rolls (hopefully they turn out), hummus w/pita, and brie topped w/ a spicy apple garlic jam wrapped in puff pastry. For the red, we're having grilled steak bites w/ BBQ sauce, cheddar, goat cheese w/ a fig chutney, foccacia bread from bread topped w/ carmlized onions, goat cheese and dried/re-hydrated figs, mushroom & onion strudels from puff pastry. The cheese plate includes emmental for the white and cheddar for the red. Then, my friend is bringing her chocolate fountain so we'll do chocolate fondue and I'm planning on baking pound cake and sugar cookies to go with that as my other friend is bringing a selection of fruit!!!! That's for 20 people and we have 12 bottles of wine!!!!

Oh, I know!!! Which is why I've rolled over some cals from yesterday and I'm going to eat as little as possible until tonight.

Especially since my new weight:

August 29
120.6!!!!!
Cardio: Intervals
Training: Supposed to be B2 but I'm anxious to get some food prep out of the way so I'm not scrambling. My concern is that making the California rolls are going to take longer than I think.

Default Best Diet Ever

Eat a little, drink a lot of wine and poof! The next morning, you will see a lower weight on the scale.

Last night's party was fantastic, lots of fun, everyone enjoyed the wines, and they were raving about the food. It's always nice when people enjoy the food you cook. I may have had a bit too much wine and not enough water, which may have led to a slight hangover this morning. Nothing gatorade, water and coffee couldn't fix. Oh and a nap, since bed time was later than usual.

And, the best part....I usually think I retain water when I have alcohol but this morning my weight was....120!!! I doubt it'll last tomorrow, I'm sure it was a dehydrated, alcohol induced weight thing. Oh and my sushi turned out well, I did just make california rolls but more importantly, people like them!!!!

(I can write that because I'm half-black. )

I agree, it's a wonderful feeling when people like your cooking. Hurray for a wonderful night!

Goodness! Check out those weigh-ins! I think The Fasting and Wine Diet book could be a Christmas bestseller!

Glad you party went well, it sounded like fun.

LOL......Yeah, the low weight didn't stick around. Oh well, it was too good to be true.

It is wonderful when people like my cooking. And actually, a friend of mine who's starting up a catering-like business (small scale) has asked if I'd be interested in some baking/cooking for it....should be fun. The funny thing is that I can't a) consistently make a good grilled cheese sandwich where both sides are brown and the cheese is melted b) microwave/reheat food like lasagna. I always either under heat it or nuke it to death. LOL, but a microwave isn't truly a cooking tool!

I'm telling you, when we went away for the past Spring Break and all I did was drink wine, walk, and eat, I lost a little weight!!!!! But alas, the awesome weigh-ins didn't last.

August 31
Training: B1 (To be done, I'm just up)
Cardio: None
Weight: 121.2 The 120 was too good to be true. Hopefully it'll be back soon.

It's time for me to face reality and go into my new school to do some prep work........

Must get back into the groove of dieting. I've really slacked on the protein intake for the last couple of days and today doesn't look good either. It's on target for calories but I'm probably not doing myself any favours by not getting all my protein in either. MUST. DO. IT. I guess it's back to egg white omlettes and canned tuna! LOL.

Yeah, my protein hasn't been in line with OPT either for a while now. I still am happy with my results from last week, but a part of me wonders if the inches lost would've been higher if I'd been better with the protein. Oh well.

Anyway, when does school start for the students (or has it already)? And what grade do you teach? I don't think I ever heard.
