I just got back from my workout B, and those deadlifts still kill me. I put my hands with my pinkies on the smooth rings, and by the last few reps it's hard to hold the grip. Like you, I have short arms (shirt sleeves are always way too long on me), so maybe that's the problem. Have you tried chalk? I'm thinking that might help. I haven't used it yet.
Back at work today after 10 straight days off. I wouldn't mind coming to work if I didn't have to get up early and commute in but that wouldn't work as I'm the manager!
So, I've planned out what I'm going to eat every day this week and I'm damn well going to stick to it. It's low calories/high protein today and I'm just about to have lunch (meat-free 1/4 pounder with homemade chunky ratatouille). Been ok so far, getting home from work is usually the danger zone for me but I will have dinner fairly soon after getting in (with a protein drink later). Plus, I have started a new knitting project so that will keep me distracted. It's a bunny. Here is a picture of someone elses completed bunny (same pattern):
My bunny will be grey and the insides of his ears (not sure why he's a boy) will be a dusky pink angora. Sooo soft.
In a bid to encourage me to drink more water, I bought a plastic 'glass' (type you have for picnics) to use at work as I drink more when it's in a glass. It holds 1/2 litre (17 fl oz) so I should have no problem getting fluids in.
I did go to the cinema alone. Don't think I'd want to do it in the evening when there were lots of non-solo people around but in the afternoon it was fun. I had free seats either side of me and no one stole/shared my popcorn!! Film was pretty good too.
Still aching despite being good and stretching yesterday, post WO. Mainly in my glutes and inner thighs. At least my shoulders stopped aching after the FSPP on Friday!

Chalk has crossed my mind. I think if I did get some I'd get the liquid version. I was having trouble with slipping the other day.
My body is protesting from all of last weeks deadlifting. So now 2 days of no lifting! It'll be pleased. Oh, but now I've reduced my calories! Sorry body.

Aww, what a cute bunny! Post a pic of yours when you're done, 'kay?
I keep thinking (well, off and on, really; now it's an off time) that I should take up something crafty like knitting or crocheting. Only I'm rather sure it'd go the way of my scrapbooking and I'd wind up with a bin full of materials I never work with. I seem to burn out on things fairly easily.

I feel the same way! It's fun going in the afternoon/late morning, but I don't think I'd ever want to go in the evening.
So did you see Moon, or something else? Looked up the synopsis for Moon on IMDB and it does look intriguing!

Cute bunny! I love knitting. It's something you can do that practically makes it impossible to snack. I knit in the winter when it's too cold in my basement to do pottery.
Where did you get the pattern for the bunny? I get the knitpicks catalog and they have a really cute little monkey kit that I keep considering getting.

Of course!

Yeah, I saw Moon. I liked it. I did feel like I was a bit of a popcorn shuffler though. I can get quite paranoid that I'm annoying other people when I'm sure they're not even aware of me!

I printed the pattern out ages ago from a website but don't know which one. It's from a book called Last Minute Knitted Gifts.
The problem is I don't have the complete pattern. I have the instructions for knitting all the different parts but then it says 'To assemble the toy, find instructions on p.109' but I don't have that! My mum knits (well, used to) and she helps me with all my knitting (I don't do much) and said I can probably just find a similar pattern and use that pattern to work out how to sew the whole thing together. Otherwise I'll just have arms, legs, a body, a head and 2 bunny ears!

Just sipping on some white tea with blackcurrant to get me through the afternoon. I have some quark scheduled in an hours time!
Poppypixie, it is scary how close our body stats are (atleast when I did my body fat measurement test at home)! Neck, waist, thigh...99% the same. We could be clones :-p

As I said in your log, I think I have higher body fat, and I'm definitely heavier than you right now (125lbs this morning!!). But with my food planned out, I'll hopefully start a downward trend. I'm calorie cycling this week, then next week I'm sticking to 1600 on workout days, 1400 on non-workout days, then the following week, cycling again. I want to see what I could actually live with and also to kick start some fat loss.
Well I hope your week goes by well (I'll stick around to peek into your log now and then!). I believe we're about the same height (I am 5'4") and weigh 120lbs so there might be a small difference but not that much

I think you'll do great getting back to your planned meals.
Thanks! I really hope I do. I'd feel like I'd really achieved something if I could reduce my body fat.

Low calories and carbs yesterday so it was a bit of a struggle. I was ok during the day, but as I said, it's when I get home from work that problems can arise. I felt tired (not used to so few carbs especially after a carb filled week).
I was ok until I saw people on TV eating toast (I wanted toast!!) then my dad phoned to say he was bringing home chips from the fish and chip shop. I estimated how many I ate (not many):
Black was ultimate goal, blue is what I calculated I'd eat then red is what I actually ate.
My overview of the day:
-Felt slightly nauseous before breakfast (could have been the smell of hot veggie sausage at that time!)
-Enjoyed quark for AM snack but wasn't particularly hungry for it at the time. Should have saved more for PM snack.
-Felt worn out when I got home - want toast!
-After dinner, stomach feels uncomfortable (full?). Had to take ibuprofen for a headache.
Calories up to 1220 today with 40% protein so a bit more familiar to me. I had toast for breakfast with my eggs, I have an apple for AM snack and I'm eating out for dinner and my meal will have ww noodles so I should feel better today.
No Wagamamas tonight, we're going to La Tasca (tapas) instead.
I'm thinking Spanish Omelette and then veggies on the side (and the rest...). My fat intake is going to be high as I'm sure olive oil will feature strongly. I'll ignore any bread and drink diet drinks and water only.
Not going to hit 40% protein today, perhaps only 30%?
That cute bunny pic reminded me that I have to get back to my crochet project. I started working on a colorful cat blanket for my Pumpkin a while ago, but right now, it's the size of a kerchief, LOL.
I never got the hang of crochet. I'll have to give it another go sometime. Bunny has 2 arms now but the legs will have to wait as I'm at the gym tonight. My mum also has to teach me how to cast on (get 1st row of stitches onto needle) properly.
Well, after going out for tapas, my calories were way off track!
1220 calories (122g protein/40%)
Over 2000 calories
I didn't feel like I had a lot of food at dinner but I was full. My sister and friend were all for drinking cocktails and sangria. I had a diet coke and 2 glasses of sangria. I had tortilla, mushrooms in garlic oil, aubergine in tomato sauce topped with cheese, we shared patatas bravas and because we were all having bits and pieces, I didn't feel like I ate lots of these dishes. I did have a slice of chocolate and orange tart with a scoop of ice cream. I tried my sister's cheesecake and wished I'd had that! So glad I'm going to the gym tonight! I felt so full on the way home and my stomach still feels slightly uncomfortable.
2.25 litres water (76 fl oz)
I've calculated today's food and it should be 1575 cals. I'm going to stick to that today!

They were all really yummy, I just feel that the chocolate tart was a bit of a 'waste' of calories as I didn't love it (and for that many calories you have to love it!) They wouldn't have been a waste if I'd gone for the cheesecake though!

So far my planned meals haven't really been panning out this week! Obviously, I don't go out for dinner every night so last night wasn't a 'regular' night of food.
Doing Stage Four, Workout A2 tonight so I have to face the dreaded FSPP. I'm not a squat fan but I don't mind the front squat part. I thought as a warm up I would try some back squats as I haven't done any since Stage One. I think I got up to 40-ish kgs then (88lbs) but hated them. I'm going to play around with different stances (definitely need to go wider) and see how low I can actually go without rounding my lower back.
And this weekend, I will watch the Squat RX videos!
I am not a squat fan, either. Never was able to do them "right" when I was in high school gym class, couldn't lift much and was always leaning too far forward. Not much has changed!! Well, aside from the fact that I weigh about 35 pounds more... Love those videos though! I'm going to finish the series this weekend myself.
Squats just wear me out. I think I haven't got the breathing right.
Stage Four, Workout A2
I tried some back squats (20, 30 + 40kg/44, 66 + 88lbs) with my legs wider than shoulder width, toes and knees out, getting right down past parallel and they were ok. Not a pretty move though.
Front squat/push press
2nd set felt the best they've been. I got the movement of the bar from fingertips to palms just right and I felt there was some speed involved in the whole set! I was only going to do 2 sets but after the 2nd I felt I could do a 3rd but only managed 5 reps.
2 x 8 @ 20kg (44lbs)
1 x 5 @ 20kg (44lbs)
Step ups
Sometimes I can feel these predominantly in the quads but today I focused on my heel on every rep and could feel it in hams and glutes. Yay! And I can feel it today too.
3 x 8 @ 2x10kg (2x22lbs)
One point DB row
3 x 8 @ 2x10kg (2x22lbs)
Static lunge, foot raised
Is it wrong to say I quite like these?
3 x 8 @ 2x12kg (2x26.5lbs) Push up
These aren't getting any easier for me...
3 x 8 on floor
Plank
1 x 90 sec Horizontal woodchop
1 x 8 @ level 5 (a bit too heavy)

Everyone who came into the gym seemed to be doing weights and our weights area is not big at all. I always seem to end up occupying the space in front of the double door fire exit, between the multi press machine and the incline BB press bench.
There were 3 boys (late teens?) using the power cage to do bench presses. They kept climbing over it and it looked like they using playground apparatus! Actually, there were a couple of younger boys in the matted area later playing with the swiss balls...
So, these 3 boys seemed to dominate most of the small weights area and you could hear them chatting away, then there was older guy (quite muscular) working out and I realised he knew the 3 boys but he was in his 30s (?) so it looked strange that he was working out with teenagers. It didn't help that he looked like a gay character in a British soap so that when I looked at the group I just kept seeing him and 'his boys', with one of them wearing pretty pink shorts!
Anyway, my rhythm kind of got shaken up and all my exercises were in the wrong order and I seemed to be in there forever, hence the reduced planks and woodchops. I then tried to do intervals but sort of messed them up and finished after 9 mins. It was getting quite late and I needed to get home and eat!
Speaking of food, it was exactly as I stated yesterday, no extras.
I saw that my birthday order from Amazon had arrived yesterday (NROL and digital food scale). My parents are going on holiday for a week on Saturday and I'm going to have to tell my mum to hide the package because I'd be too tempted to read the book while they're away! That would be the worst, unwrapping a present knowing that I had already secretly read it.
Wanted to say hi after you stopped by my journal. Are there many Uk people on this site?
Am I right in thinking you are vegetarian? If so, I'd love to see a sample menu for you - I am thinking of going veggie again, btu wound up anemic last time I tried it.
Love the bunny! I painted a cup on a hen night activities weekend recently and loved the chance to do something creative. I need to get more of this into my life!

I didn't even notice that you were from the UK. A lovely summer we're having, huh? There is Gen who is an American in the UK but I'm not sure about any others.
Yes, I'm vegetarian and here is a sample day. I haven't had any health problems but I don't think I'm anaemic!:
Breakfast
Scrambled eggs (1 whole egg and 1 white) on wholemeal toast
Morning snack
Apple
Protein drink (I get True whey protein from Myprotein.com)
Lunch
Sainsbury's Meatfree Quarter Pounder
Homemade Ratatouille
Afternoon snack 125g quark (1/2 pot) with 1 tsp agave syrup mixed in
Half (or whole if pre-workout) peanut butter and jam sandwich
Dinner
2 Linda McCartney vegetarian sausages
Broccoli
25g wholewheat pasta
Post-workout
Protein drink
Total (without food in italics)
1399 cals
142g carbs (40%)
110g protein (32%)
44g fat (28%)
Total (with food in italics)
1608 cals
163g carbs (41%)
134g protein (33%)
46g fat (26%)
I'm trying out a different plan this week but next week will be pretty much like the above plan.
I'm off to sew bunny's arms then I'm going to start knitting his legs!

Urgh! I can't do another day like this. The cals are ok but I can't do the high protein. I'm going to play around on Daily Plate and see what I can come up with on those cals but with 40c/30p/30f.
Still got a fat belly but I'll wait and see what my results are when the week is over.
This week has gone so quickly! I would have thought after a week off the first week back to work would really drag.
Glad that the 1100 cal days are over. I think the lowest I can go is 1200 but with 40c/30p/30f macros or even 35/35/30.
Knitting nearly drove me to distraction last night. I managed to cast on but I had to increase my stitches and it wasn't working! Eventually I had to get my mum to do it and then I completed the rest of the leg. She's going to start the other leg today and I'll finish it tonight. Then my parents are away for a week so I think I'm doomed, knitting-wise!
I was just posting in Pip's log about pistol squats and how I can't come close to doing them so I'm going to add this link in here as reference:
Stage Four, B2 tonight. I can practice one-legged squats! I'll see how low down I can get if I don't include any extra weight. Just to see. It'll probably be funny to watch. I hope there isn't a group working out together and dominating the weights area like on Wednesday night. I just wanna get in and get home!
Food today (I'm sticking to this):
Goal: 1220 cals (122g protein/40%)
Planned Actual
1249 calories 1254 calories
123g protein 114g protein
101g carbs 112g carbs
40g fat 39g fat
Can't add macro %s as Daily Plate isn't cooperating.
Thanks so much for posting that menu. I t is good to get some ideas, and great to see you use meat recplacement stuff like Linda McCartney's - that seems totally doable. I think I'm going to try this in a couple of months in order to do it slowly.
Those pistol squats look killer.
And yeah, what is up with the weather? Third year of rubbish Summer!
I don't know how other supermarkets are for meat-replacement foods but Sainsbury's seems ok, although I am getting a little tired of the flavouring of them. Maybe I'll venture to Tesco or Asda and see what they have. Most of the burgers/sausages I eat are high in protein and low in carbs.
I used to eat tofu (I changed from vegan to vegetarian when I started NROLFW) but I ate too much of that and got fed up with it and it took time to prepare. I like just throwing something under the grill!

I have to admit that I sneaked a peek at NROL. I just had a quick look at the pictures of squats and DLs and at the Fat-Loss programmes. Don't think I'll be managing T-push ups straight away!
Just ordered some samples of whey powder. I have Velvet Vanilla at the moment but I'm beginning to hate it (looking at this post, I really need to change up what I'm eating, just for the benefit of my taste buds!) so I'm going to order another tub. The tub is 5lbs (2.2kg) so you get a lot of powder and I don't want to be stuck with something nasty. I've ordered Choc-Orange, Choc-Mint, Banana Cream and Cookies n Cream.
Just phoned my mum and she's going to have a look at bunny this afternoon.
Cookies n cream protein powder sounds great! There's a peanut butter one I really want though too. I've been thinking about trying to sew some clothes or knit a sweater lately since a convo with some friends earlier this week. You're motivating me even more with the cute bunny!
