I had the same reaction to Miss Jane's post. When I read that she was starting her own challenge I thought, "hey, that's awesome" .... and then remembered that I am already in a challenge. And it is half-way over. I'm trying to keep the drive by being mindful that we have to post pics again in 3 weeks.

way late here, but nice progress last month!

And I agree about getting to the gym and doing the workouts as best as you can...they can't all be awesome every time. You are doing great!

Oh, more pictures! I do feel a bit more in control this week, foodwise. and I've drunk more water today too.

Thanks! I think I was just struggling with a couple of moves within one workout which was frustrating. I'm gonna nail Workout B tonight though!

Fat Loss II, Workout B2

Well, I did it (but had to cut it a bit short due to time constraints)! And no cramp!

Snatch-grip Deadlift
I find these tough with such high reps (hence dropping weight for 3rd set). I can't say I used a snatch-grip the whole way through either. The BB is close to the ground and I'm short so have short arms. Struggled to find something to raise the bar off the floor high enough for me not to have to bend down so much.
2 x 12 @ 40kg (88lbs)
1 x 12 @ 35kg (77lbs)
T-Push Up
How did I managed to do even one set of 12 last time?!
8
8
8

Bulgarian Split-Squat w/overhead press
I did them and I think I did them well!
3 x 12 @ 2x4kg (2x8.8lbs)
Underhand grip lat pulldown
1 x 12 @ 25kg (55lbs)
2 x 12 @ 31.5kg (69.3lbs)

Romanian Deadlift/Bent Over Row
2 x 12 @ 20kg (44lbs)
Lower-body Russian twist
Still feel like I'm flapping around when doing these. Might practice them in the privacy of my own home...
1 x 12

I think the T-push ups were harder this time because I did the BSS w/OH press and lat pulldown combo first, then the DLs and push ups.

There was a guy in the gym who I haven't seen before (I've moved my workout from Wed to Tues) and I wasn't too sure what he was trying to achieve. He was doing squats when I went it but when I actually looked at the BB, he was only squatting 40kg (88lbs) and probably only half way down. I can squat parallel with more than that! And he wasn't doing very many reps. Then when I was on the lat pulldown machine, he stood in front of the mirror opposite me and shadow boxed! Ha! I'd rather be in the gym with someone like that than the jerk who takes himself really seriously (but only ever works upper body) and asked me why I don't just do cardio instead of weights (the jerk is kind of the reason I moved my workout - I heard him say he doesn't go to the gym Tues or Fri. It's sad that I felt I had to do that but he was the one bad point of my gym visits).

I think there is a good portion of us that need/want that drive. I don't know if it is a lack of wanting 'it' enough or simply a lack of support (if that's the right word). It seems most people want to see you exceed at your goals, but at the same time push unfavorable things in your direction. I'm not blaming others for my lack of will-power, but there is a fine line that needs to be balanced between healthy living and maintaining relationships, and I think this may be a big key to success. How do you maintain successful relationships when most activities take place at restaurants, fast food places, and bar? While I want 'it,' I also want people to enjoy it with.

Oh my goodness! Usually if I'm going to be sore after a workout, it's the following morning but yesterday it struck in the evening. Gradually the soreness right at the top of my inner thighs just increased and increased. Still sore to walk now. Damn Fat Loss II Workout B!

Food has been ok this week. It may not be the perfect diet but I'm trying to hit calories and macro goals every day. Last night I got home and my Dad asked me if I wanted chips from the fish and chip shop. I said no and he said that was laudable. Yay! He had bought a bar of Cadbury's Dairy Milk though so I had 3 chucks of that (and 2 chips when they arrived home!). I could have eaten the lot though!

Scale is being nice to me this week and reflecting the effort I've put in to my diet. Out tonight for tapas though...

Actually you & your sis do look alike: same smile & same eye brows. She's just blonde & you're dark haired, which causes the different look.

While I'm admiring Jane's drive.. just decided to do the opposite: indulge in the next 3 months to enjoy the festive season. After I've discovered to not be strong enough for a meet where being sub-58 would have been nice.. I'm no longer motivated to cut further but instead want to gain muscle & strength. Too bad you only need to eat slightly over maintenance to achieve your goal as eating too much = far too much unwanted fat gain.

That sounds nice! I will try to time the completion of my weight loss so that I can go on a muscle gain program over the holiday season next year and eat a few goodies! It would be nice to not do the calorie calculus every day of, "do I really want that extra half of a pear with my cottage cheese, or should I save the carbs up for a pfeffernusse?"

Fat Loss II Workout A3

Front squat
1 x 10 @ 25kg (55lbs)
2 x 10 @ 27.5kg (60.6lbs)
Wide-grip cable row
3 x 10 @ 26.25kg (57.8lbs)

Supine hip extension with leg curl
3 x 10 @ bw
Barbell push press
3 x 10 @ 20kg (44lbs)

Dynamic lunge
3 x 10 @ 2x10kg (2x22lbs)
Upper-body Russian Twist

3 x 12 @ bw

Felt really good after this workout. Feels like I haven't had a good workout for a while but this time I managed to keep to 45 sec rest, probably because I had the weights area to myself!

Then yesterday I did intervals on the treadmill:

27 mins plus 10 mins walking

3 min warm up

1 min @ 12kph, 13kph, 13.5kph, 14kph, 13.5kph, 13kph, 12kph
1 min @ 7.5mph, 8mph, 8.4mph, 8.7mph, 8.4mph, 8mph, 7.5mph

with 2 min rests @ 5 kph (3mph)

3 min cool down

then 10 mins slow walking.

Fat Loss II, Workout B3

Snatch-grip Deadlift
2 x 10 @ 35kg (77lbs)
1 x 10 @ 37.5kg (82.6lbs)
T-Push Up
3 x 10

Bulgarian Split-Squat w/overhead press1 x 10 @ 2x4kg (2x8.8lbs)
2 x 10 @ 2x2kg (2x4.4lbs)
Underhand grip lat pulldown
2 x 10 @ 31.5kg (69.4lbs)
1 x 10 @ 38.5kg (85lbs)

Romanian Deadlift/Bent Over Row
3 x 10 @ 22.5kg (49.6lbs)
Lower-body Russian twist
3 x 10

This was a good workout too. Managed to keep a snatch grip for the DLs. I put the bar on the safety bar in it's lowest position (I think it's a touch higher than if the bar had the 20kg plates on it). Doing the t-push ups then the BSS w/OH press! That's why I went down to 2kg DBs. Last time I didn't do the workout in the correct order so I didn't have this problem. Ouch! Lower-body twist felt a bit more controlled.

A guy who I haven't seen at the gym for a while said hello to me today, which was nice. Then he was in the matted area while I did the T-push ups. Afterwards he said I was really strong, not even just for a girl. Ha!

Food has been a bit blah (I'm taking holiday on every Friday and Monday for the rest of the month, starting last Friday so I have to be careful with food as without a schedule it can get out of hand), but today I have been pretty good. Two positive workouts and a good interval session has incentivised me to reign the food in.

Had a nice experience in Uniqlo yesterday. Tried on 2 pairs of jeans in a UK10 (US 6) but they were both far too big! I have a pair of their skinny straight jeans in a UK10 which are snug but these were regular straight and bootcut. I might go back tomorrow and try the UK8 (US 4)!

Thanks! I bought the straight legs in a UK8 (US 4). I'm getting the tape measure out to find out what waist size the rest of my jeans are now (new jeans say they are 26"). They all vary so much! A few years ago I got quite small quite quickly (I just didn't eat) and I have a pair of jeans from then which are a size 10 (US 6) but they're tiny and I can't imagine how small I was then to fit in them.

Fat Loss II Workout A4

Front squat
3 x 10 @ 27.5kg (60.6lbs)
Wide-grip cable row
3 x 10 @ level 10 (felt about the same as 26.25kg/57.8lbs)

Supine hip extension with leg curl
3 x 10 @ bw
Barbell push press
2 x 10 @ 20kg (44lbs)
1 x 10 @ 22.5kg (49.6lbs)
Woo! Never been able to push press anything but an empty Oly bar over my head before. 22.5kg was tough for 10 reps!

Dynamic lunge
3 x 10 @ 2x10kg (2x22lbs)
Upper-body Russian Twist

3 x 12 @ bw

Not much has changed since last 'A' workout. Increased front squat - was going to use 30kg for last set but 27.5kg was tough. Next workout! I'll probably go up on the lunges next time. 12kg DBs are tough to hold for 20 reps total but should be ok for 16 reps. Upper body Russian twist - I think I've got the hang of these so I should add weight now. And of course, I increased on the push press. I could never managed more than the Oly bar for front squat/push-press in NROLFW.

Treadmill intervals tonight.

Food has been good and I'm seeing changes on the scales. 17 days til photos and measurements will be taken!

25 min treadmill intervals last night. I was hungry in the afternoon so ate an apple then a piece of toast with jam before I went to the gym and boy, did it give me a boost!

Warm up

1 min @ 12kph, 13kph, 14kph, 13kph, 14kph, 13kph, 12kph
1 min @ 7.5mph, 8mph, 8.7mph, 8mph, 8.7mph, 8mph, 7.5mph

with 2 min rests @ 5 kph (3mph)

Cool down

I love the fact that the first 12kph (7.5mph) feels so hard (I could never start faster than that) but when I get to the last 12kph (7.5mph) it feels like the easiest thing! Listened to System of a Down during this which was great. Haven't listened to them for a long time. Then I did 2 chin ups and went home. I miss chin ups. Need to start back on them.

Your workouts are looking really good. I miss chin ups too. I honestly just forget to do them - or try to do them since I am guessing one or two would be difficult right now.

That is great about the jeans! But frustrating at the same time. My waist measurement does NOT correlate to the same size in a pair of jeans unfortunately. I wish it were that simple. Apparently people with slim waists are also supposed to have narrow hips and slim legs...who knew?

Congrats on the smaller jeans. I had a similar revelation this morning. Scrambling to find jeans to wear to work (brother adjusted all my clocks without me knowing it = late for work). I couldn't find any so I grabbed a pair from the very top and back of the closet. Put them on, knowing I was going to be uncomfortable and crabby all day. To my surprise, they fit. Not just fit, but are comfortable and I actually have extra room. So, while the scale refuses to budge (I think it's broke), something is happening....and I like it.

Well, I use the bar at the back of the power rack but the rack has been pushed back against the wall again so there isn't enough room for the bar to be used. I just hung off the Oly bar which is thicker and I sort of slipped off!

I have always bought a size 10 (US 6) or 28" in jeans. Oh yeah, small waist must mean small legs - I wish! Gap did bring out Curvy jeans for small waist/not small legs but they just seemed too big all over (plus Gap in UK doesn't have a petite range).

That's great! I was so surprised to try on the size I normally try and find that they were big, but so pleased. I don't think I've shrunk that much, I think they're just roomier jeans but as most women do, I go by what size the label says and if it's a size smaller, I'm happy!

Why did your brother adjust all your clocks? Sounds like a practical joke!

Why are well-fitting jeans so difficult to find? I have the opposite problem: smaller legs but proportionally larger waist. So I end up with saggy-ass jeans .

It's like bras, once you find a brand you like, you better buy a dozen of them before they quit making them!

Why can't everything be as easy to buy as shoes?
