ok soo i have a question about whey protein powder. my dad doesnt want me to get any because he says it will just make me gain weight. i dont really know what to do because i dont really trust his fitness advice haha and it says good things about in in nrol4w i think. ill have to double check. can anyone help me to put up a good argument or tell me that he is right? =]
thanks
omg! iv been feeling so much better sense i went to the gym this week. iv been feeling really great. im so much more happy and have a lot of energy. I feel strong! and just plain amazing haha. im really glad im doing nrol4w. im excited to take pictures at the end of the month and see if there are any changes. =] just thought i would share haha.
Summer, you made me cry...I am ecstatic that you're enjoying what you're doing and that you're being consistent. The energy and change in attitude/confidence are almost unexpected side effects, but they're wonderful ones! Your new confidence will translate to all areas of your life, because if you can do something this hard, the sky is really the limit.
As for the pictures, I'm excited for you also. I'm bummed that we didn't do measurements, because sometimes it's easier to see changes that way than in pics, but I'm sure we will notice some positive changes.
Two questions--I'm glad to hear you're tracking your food--did you remember to check out sparkpeople? No pressure of course...
Also, did you search for any videos on deadlift form? Here are a couple of links:
A calorie is a calorie Protein powder calories aren't going to make you gain weight any more than a chicken breast. Both are protein, both are low fat. If you eat a ton of chicken or drink a ton of PP shakes, you'll gain weight. It's all about tracking your calories and staying within a deficit.

Summer--read over the section in the book about how important it is to have protein after workouts. Since you have my book, I'm not sure where it is, but it's in there. Two things: tell him I've been using protein shakes since April, and he knows what I used to look like vs what I look like now (i.e., lost 35#, gained muscle). Also, protein powder is just calories like anything else. Some protein powder is like 800 calories per shake (I've been told) because it's specially formulated for people who WANT to gain weight (like skinny teenage boys). Most protein powder (esp. what your mom will find in Wal-Mart) is about 130 calories per scoop. BUT it will deliver protein to your muscles to help them repair what you did during your workouts. Calories are calories. You burn a certain # of calories per day, and you take in a certain # of calories per day. It's what you eat the rest of the day that will decide whether you gain or lose weight. And yes, you'll build muscle, but you won't bulk up. A pound of muscle takes up less space than a pound of fat, and looks better also.
My caveat: I don't want to cause trouble between you and your dad, so if discussion isn't possible right now, we'll figure out another way for you to get some easily digestible protein after workouts. (egg whites are one, not sure how many you'd need off the top of my head...)

Um, no comment on the whey protein thing...that's up to your mom. Just don't get yourself in trouble, ok?
The workout looks great, and I'm so proud of you for going without me! So you started doing stepups onto the bench? That's great. It will really help your balance, just work on not using that back foot! Hey, if you add weight, you can color that part of your workout red so we'll all notice that you got a pr (personal record), and how cool you are! Just click on "advanced reply" and all the editing options will come up--the font color can be found by clicking on the A with the black line below it. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY YY!

ok. Here's the links you asked for on the Eat Clean Diet/Cookbook. I never did the diet, but I've used several recipes from the cookbook and they're very good. She is all about "eating clean" which basically means you want to eat healthy, whole foods (even some wacky stuff that you'll have to go to the Natural Foods store in Genesee for...)

stage 1 workout b4
dead lift 2x12@75# ( celest recorded me so if i can figure out how to get the video from my phone to you tube or something ill post it here for advice ) dumb bell shoulder press. 12@20# 5@20# 7@15# (mrs celest said i was doing them wrong so i went lighter and it was harder haha) wide grip lat pull down. 2x12@70# lunge 2x12@40# swiss ball crunch 2x10
todays workout was really hard for me..im not sure why. its the same as last time. actully some of the things are lighter. maybe its because i didnt go to bed till 11. i had good intentions i went upstairs at 9 and was going to go to bed. instead i got on the computer and started talking to my friend who i thought might be mad at me but he wasnt so i was happy and then i couldnt go to sleep. hahaha.
I think ill start logging what i eat on here to keep myself on track so here is what i ate so far.
pre workout protein shake mixed with water
post workout protein shake mixed with milk
bannana
chocolate doughnut
oh, sorry about the doughnut. Hope it was the last!
yeah it was! =] that was good that i only ate one. didnt you hear my cry of horror when i opened the door and through my bag in the back seat and saw..them !!! haha
Wow! I was gone a couple of days and missed so much.
