Hey there. I've been out of it for a while, but it's nice to see you're keeping up. Push/pull workouts are fun. I like them because you're always rested for the next day.

Hey Roland Yeah I haven't done it long enough yet to know which I prefer, but we'll see. And thanks for friending me on FB, lol

Thanks Tracey! I have my 2-week lasik follow up today at 10:30 and the gym is on the way back, so I'll go right after my appointment.

Bri said I don't actually have to go 4 times a week, that three a week is still fine and I should still see plenty of results, so that's probably what I'll do. Though I might go two days in a row this weekend because I missed yesterday. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Hi Kara! Things are looking good in here...glad to hear you are getting on track with some new programming and are looking forward to your workouts! Is DC back to normal yet??

Yeah DC is pretty much back to normal from what I can tell. I haven't been out bopping around down there yet, just work and back home. But the commute has been fine, no carryover from the craziness.

2nd workout ala Brian today. I am loving this program so far! It's butt-kicking, but it's great!

Week 1 Workout B:
DB shoulder scaption with shrug:
10x5
8x5
8x5
6x5
*never did these before and I can't tell if my shoulder blades are "winging out". I kept the weight really low even though the reps went down just to try to focus on how to do these right.

Curtsy Lunges:
10x45
8x55
8x60
6x65

That looks impressive, but they're only PRs because they're still new to me, lol.

Close-grip seated row:
10x50
8x60
8x60
6x70
*possible PR on that last one, not sure though

Sumo deadlifts:
10x75
8x85
8x90
6x95
*working on fixing form with these. I'm only going down to where the bar would end if I was using 45s, but since my gym doesn't have a cage, only one of those weird squat racks, it more resembles a RDL than a CDL, but I'm working on it.

1-arm lat pulldowns:
10x25-ish?
6x30
5x30
6x30
*holy crap these are sooo hard! and there's no weight between the 20 or 25 and the 30. These are gonna take some practice and patience!

standing wood chops:
10x15 each side
3x10x17.5 each side
*the weight stack actually says 30 and 35 for these, but they're really small plates and there's no way in hell the numbers are right, I figure they're half plates, so I divide by two, lol.

Phew!

Eye dr appt went well. My right eye is still not caught up to my left, but they said that's fine for now and that I need to put re-wetting drops in more often. I go back in March. Hopefully I will be all healed by then!

Now to go on a cleaning frenzy with my messy apartment!

Kara, are you sure there isn't a little extra plate you can put on top of the cable stack for when you are in between weights? At my gym, they are hanging on the side of the cable machine.

If not, you can find a small plate (2.5 or 5lbs) and carefully use the stack pin to hold it in place on the front of the stack.

or you can get take some leg/wrist weights (if you have them) and drape them over the stack - they balance pretty good - a small DB can be balanced on some stacks as well.

Hey Jane, I looked all over and unfortunately no, they don't have those (wish they did!)

I will try these. They have 5 and 2.5lb plates so I might be able to balance them or use a small DB, we shall see. Thanks for the ideas!

So Jane just reached a major milestone tonight with her first unassisted chin-up and pull-up... go Jane! So it inspired me to have some fun with my chin-up bar as well. I got 4 assisted chin-ups, then just a couple minutes ago I thought, let me try an unassisted one. I got about 75% of the way up! That's much farther than I've ever gotten! So I still have lots of work to do to get there, but I'm on my way!

Woo hoo on the 75% there chin-up! It won't be long now. Girls getting strong enough to do chin ups is just awesome. I remember when I worked up to doing one pull up about a year and a half ago I was excited, but I didn't feel like it much of an accomplishment compared to what it seemed others were doing. Well, now I've lost my pull up...and chin ups for that matter. I don't know if I'll ever get it back again, but I'm going to work on it right now.

Aww thanks Ginger!! Glad you stopped by

And Kathy I'm sure your chin-ups will come back! It's gotta be a little bit like riding a bike right? Since you've already known how to do them they should come back easier the second time around (I think... lol)

Re: Leaving the plates on the bars. Not only does that piss me off, it kills me that that they still do that when there are signs all over the effing place telling people to re-rack their weights. ARRRGHH! People are dumb.

Good jobs with your workouts!

Holy crap! I am soooooo sore today! Everything hurts! I mean, that's a good thing, but oh man! I was gonna try to go to the gym today again depending on how I felt and the second I rolled out of bed this morning I went "Nope! Not gonna happen!" So I made my breakfast and sat on the couch and watched Aladdin, one of my favorite movies And since I really don't have much to do today, I think I might have a little Disney marathon, hehe. I'm such a dork, but I love disney... hence the screenname!

I was just going through an "I'm sick of everything in my CD player" phase, so I listened to a bunch of Disney soundtracks -- Aladdin, Beauty & The Beast, Prince of Egypt, Little Mermaid, etc...

hehe I freakin love Disney
I ended up watching SWAT instead, pretty good movie, I'd never seen it before.

Today I was a complete waste of space. I did NOTHING! I was so sore I could barely move, so I watched Rafa beat someone I can't remember right now in the Australian Open in straight sets, and hung out on here a bit, but everyone else had a life so nothing was going on, lol. Now my roommie's bf is here visiting so we played a car game and just hung out. Back in business tomorrow though... back in the gym even if it kills me, haha.

Hi Kara! Your sumo DL weights are soooo impressive for me. I'm happy to be able to be at 55# right now. I don't have a cage at home either, just a Nautilus rack, so I use old paint cans to prop the bar and gauge how low to go. Hubby is helping me with form.

I teach high school students with Autism, Down Syndrome, and ID. They *LOVE* Disney movies. I have three who cannot leave the house without a Disney movie in their hands, and it is tough to get them put away once the kids arrive at school. I will show them only 3x per year, the last day before winter break, the last day before spring break, and the last day of school. Right now they are counting down to spring break. We have many, many discussions on which Disney movie is the best ever. LOL!

Oh my good lord! Not to be un-politically correct or anything, but is there some major Asian thing going on today that I don't know about? Is it Chinese New Year? Or are they just giving away free stuff to Asians today? I just tried to go to the gym and the entire gym parking lot as well as the parking lot for the entire shopping center surrounding the gym were PACKED full... it took me almost half an hour just to get through the parking lot! And every single car I saw was packed with Asians! The lot was a complete zoo! Everyone honking and pissed off at each other, trying to move, not letting people go, etc. I eventually said screw it and left. I will try to go later today, but damn that just pissed me off. And it really is nothing at all against Asians, it's just that the entire swarm of people were all Asian... so apparently I missed a memo. Bah!

Ok, gonna shower and get ready to go to a movie with the roomie and her bf. And of all things to make for dinner tonight, I have Chinese pepper steak planned! How fitting!

Hehe, I think you're the only one that got that reference

Anyway, didn't make it back to the gym last night since I figured if it was that bad at noon the day before the Chinese new year, it would be even worse later on. I'm hoping today isn't as bad, because I really need to get back in there.

And not to be copying Jane or anything, but I tried an unassisted chinup again yesterday when I was pretty well rested.... and (drumroll).... I got it!!! Form was not perfect by any means, I used every freakin muscle I had, which means I ended up in almost a fetal position at the top, haha, but I got over that bar! Then a tried again a few hours later and got another one! It takes me a while to get all the way up and it's not smooth or easy at ALL! But I did it... so I'm hoping to eventually be able to do it with much better form, then eventually be able to do more than 1... How about I make a goal of being able to do 5 in a row by the end of the challenge? Sounds like a plan to me!
