How cool about the squats! That's one thing I want to finally conquer in the second half of this year. My squat form, while improved quite a bit last year, is still not right. Frustrating!
Yay on fixing the squat form! And the rock climbing sounds totally fun! I've been wanting to try that, but I don't think there is anyplace around here! BUMMER!

I remember you working on it last year. It's a bit of a blow to the ego to have to back up my weight quite a bit, but I'm hoping I'll progress faster once I get it down pat.

Thanks Tracey. Rock-climbing is really fun but it challenges your grip strength more than anything! I used to be really terrible because I tried to pull with just my arms... haha, bad idea! I use my legs more now, but it still kills my grip to hold on to some of those things. We go to an indoor place, but my sis's bf is really good and does stuff outside without ropes and stuff. I have no desire to get that good (or that stupid? lol) but it's fun to go when we all get together.
Foggy is normal, but if you get foggy to the point of impeded ability to do normal tasks, call us.
Required disclaimer: I am not a trained medical professional. If you feel something is not right, call us, call the emergency line in your packet, make a phone call. It never hurts, and we can either call the office you had your surgery at or we can give you the emergency number and a doctor will call you back.
Thanks Lib! It just freaks me out when it gets foggy, but I know it's supposed to be like that for a little while. I'll call if it starts bugging any more.
Heading to the gym in a few. Not sure if I'll stick to Roland's program for now or do some more form work and shoulder stuff. I'm thinking of doing face pulls and those plate rotation things, then squats, rows, lunges or BSS and maybe some core stuff. I'll try to do some chins when I get home too. I'll be seeing Bri this weekend again and he's going to work on a program for me
OK.. back from the gym. Not a bad workout, not stupendous or anything, but not bad. I just think I need to start joining Wendy in the pain cave. My workouts are going well, but I'm not pushing hard enough I don't think. And I need to get to the entrance of the pain cave when it comes to tracking again. Not for a long time... but for a little while, so I can actually lose some of this last bit of fat and hopefully maintain my muscles. With the food I have scheduled for the rest of week, I can't figure out the macros for the recipes and I do't have things measured out AT ALL, so this week is a no-go. But next week I'm going to dust the spiderwebs off my fitday account and log some stuff. I may need you all to help me with the accountability factor on this one since I freakin hate it so much, lol!
Oh, and I've posted this before but I just put it in Wendy's log because she was discussing a desire to bench-press her friend. I just so happen to have a video of my bf benching my friend! So for all the newer people who haven't seen it yet, it's pretty darn funny. And no, I'm not the one being benched, nor am I the one who hugs him at the end, that's my other friend Erika, who wanted him to bench press Megan forher birthday! (weird I know, lol) Enjoy!
Oh yeah, and I meant to actually POST my workout! lol. Here it is:
Warm up:
plate rotations: 3x10e w/ 5lb plate
overhead shrugs: 3x15 w/ oly bar (ouch... lots of grinding in my left shoulder on these)
facepulls: 8x30, 2x10x25lbs
Front squats:
10x45
2x10x55
*was gonna do back squats, but people were hogging the squat rack
haha IF that! Closer to 100-105. But when benching a person it's much more unstable (not that I would personally know, lol). So while the weight was no prob for him, it was still pretty awkward.

Yeah, that's true. I think of that when I think that I can deadlift my own weight...but deadlifting an actual person at that weight (or even a much lower weight) would be pretty much impossible.

I am right there with ya on joining Wendy! And I totally know what you mean about the tracking stuff. I've tried to adjust my attitude about it so I don't hate it so much. I'm starting to look at it as a scientific experiment. I'm tracking my cals in via Crosstrainer, and the GWF is tracking my cals out, and I'm going to compare the results that I'm "supposed" to get with my actuals to see how accurate this GWF is!!!

Reverse cris-cross lunges:
3x10ex20s
Kneeling cable crunches:
3x10x35lbs
The end!
Looks great! I don't even know some of those exercises, yet, so you get to impress me double.
Those videos are cool! My husband was getting laughs out of our 3 year old nephew over the weekend when he was bench pressing him. He thought it was so fun! It was one of those "again! again!" things. I am pretty positive there is no way he could bench press anything older then a five year old though
Nice workout there! Front squats are my nemesis. I am trying really hard to get better at them.
I don't like front squats either. I wasn't even planning on doing them, I wanted to do regular sqauts, but oh well.
And Tom, I can't see the video here at work, but I will check it out when I get home.
Cheryl, I made up the name "cris-cross lunges". I don't know if there's an actual name for them or not, but basically, instead of lunging straight back with your leg, you cross it behind you to lunge so that you have to use your butt more to get back up. Brianas a much more technical explanation than I do, but there it is, lol.

That sounds like a cursty lunge. We did those in Alwyn Cosgrove's hands-on portion of the Perform Better 1-day seminar last year. Although we did them using Valslides. Or a reverse curtsy lunge as I'm seeing in videos online. I kind of forgot about those.

No official workout today but I was cleaning my room and dancing around like an idiot, so I'm sure that counts for something (it's better than sitting on my butt, which is what I usually do when I get home and it's not a gym day)
Also, I did 5 band chin-ups yesterday after my workout. My goal right now is 10, then I'll try an unassisted one!
I have decided I really need to push myself with the food and the gym right now. I did so awesome the first part of last year and i wasn't even in the official challenge. Now that I'm actually IN a challenge I need to step it up. And I am not going to let Brian's "But you already look amazing" stuff get in the way of me making a transformation. It's not fair that he doesn't want me to be as lean as he is. I will be making a program with him this weekend, and starting to nail down my food next week when I get back to the clusterf*ck that will be this area after inauguration.
I'm also looking into getting my butt back to school to finish my masters. I'm looking at online programs now since my schedule isn't very conducive to classrooms right now. I've only really looked into one program so far,but I will be taking more time to check it out.
Oh shush, you know what I meant. And what are you doing on the forum anyway mister? You should be in class listening attentively to everything your profs are telling you
Kara - let us know what you decided about school - do it while you're young! When I went back for my 2nd master's I had to take stats (never mind I'd already had SIX semesters of grad-level stats my first time through!!!) and the prof was demonstrating mean, median and mode (YAWN!!!). He decided to use our ages as data points, so we all had to state our age - I was the oldest in the room. sigh...

Yikes, how rude. And you told the truth?
I know as long as two of the guys stick around that I'm not the oldest person in the room (but I'm pretty close to it).
Aww Bytsi! I would have lied, lol. And I want to definitely go back while I"m young, but my problem is that I don't know what I want to do for the rest of my life. I was thinking of doing a masters in CJ, because some of my FS credits might transfer. But I know my short term goals, I'm just not sure what the heck I would do after that. Lots of thinking. Though, my problem tends to be that I OVERthink things. So we'll see what happens.
Went to the gym today. Again, nothing spectacular... just getting back into the swing of things. Let's see if I can remember what I did since my notebook isn't in front of me
Sumo deads:
2x10x65
1x8x75
*I hate that I feel so weak on these anymore. But I have to keep reminding myself that form trumps weight, so I just gotta suck it up and get better at it.
DB bench:
1x12x20s
2x10x25s
RDL:
3x10x95
Ball crunches:
3x10x 12lb DB longarm
*woah it's been awhile since I did these... I definitely felt these!
Excited for the weekend. I'm gettin the heck out of the DC area for the craziness. Going tubing in PA instead with Bri and his family and one of my best friends from college.
And, here I was all jealous of you living so close to HISTORY being made next week!! I was in the lottery for tickets to the inauguration, but didn't win. I was going to be hitting you up for a spot on your floor had I won! LOL!
