Todays' workout, if you can even call it that:
5x5 of the following, circuit style:
SHELC
burpees
band face-pulls
jumpking jacks
BW squats
then did 4 band assisted chin ups and 1 90sec plank for "fun"
Hi Kara.....Because I tend to cook in bulk and freeze things in meal-size portions, I also find myself eating a lot of the same foods. Works for me. Only when I see that scale has stalled or is moving in the wrong direction do I look at those SAME foods and see what I might need to tweak.
Now, as far as the last month goes, all of what I just said flew out the window! We are talking BAD!! I was eating at the hospital every day. Going down to their YUMMY bakery when my mom was sleeping and getting scones and other bad things. BUT, now that I am back on track, I basically eat a lot of the same stuff, too!!
Oh Jane, believe me, this past month is one we shall not speak of in terms of food, lol. Way too much and way too yummy. But December is over so we must start anew in 09! When Bri is here tonight we are going to try to make a new program for me (yet again). I love having the option of a circuit style workout to do at home, but now I'm getting back in the swing of things I want a 3-day a week at-the-gym program again. I think I was just burnt out on Power Training, but the workouts i'm doing now are almost too short. And with my shoulders acting up and my gym's equipment I've had to sub things a bit. So we're going to try to make a really tailored program since he'll have the time to sit with me and talk goals and what not. I'm definitely going to keep Roland's circuit workout for home-days though. And once my shoulders start getting better I'll add pushups back in.
I also eat the same foods everyday (especially breakfast). If I know its a balanced meal and its easy to make, then I usually stick to it. Better to know you are getting the right amounts of foods in.
Also, definitely take care of your shoulders and keep taking it easy. I injured mine 6yrs ago snowboarding then tried to workout my shoulders at the gym after the injury (very stupid idea). It left me sidelined from upperbody weights for a month.
Food for today was more of the same, except dinner. And I had a vanilla rooibos tea latte at starbucks. dinner was out at a comedy show and I had a bbq chicken wrap. it was delish! unfortunately I also ate the fries that came with it. Ugh, why is it that I can never resist things like that when I'm out? Bah.
Tomorrow is the big day! Less than 24 hours until I get my new eyes!!
I can't resist them when they're on the plate. My only solution is to stop them from coming in the first place. The last time I wanted to switch fries for salad they were going to charge me $1, which I agreed to (although in the end they didn't). It's kind of sad that greasy fries are cheaper. I know, they keep longer in the freezer than fresh lettuce and veggies.
Hey everyone! I tried to get on before to tell you all about it, but the form was MIA for quite a while. (And how sad is it that I felt a tad lost without it? lol) My vision is great! It's still foggy at times, but it's only the day after. I went for my day-after check-up and my left eye is doing slightly better than my right, but my right had more astigmatism in it, so it's ok. Apparently I have "textbook against-the-rule astigmatism". Which sounds really weird but it basically means my astigmatism is horizontal rather than vertical and most people with astigmatism have the vertical kind, so I'm "against-the-rule". *shrug*. I tell ya though, that was one trippy experience! I thought I knew what to expect when I was under the laser, but I definitely did not. I'm glad the left eye turned out well because with that one I felt like I had a harder time keeping my eye still, so I was worried about it. So we'll see how it gets from here. Time for more drops now though. And then I get to put on my VERY sexy sleeping goggles that make Steve Urkle's glasses look hot, lol. I did workout friday before the surgery too, and I'll post that tomorrow. Night night!!
Burning eyeball flesh smells BAD!!! I still remember it from my lasik surgeries (yeah, two of 'em cuz I heal too well!)... Kara - did that part freak you out?
Ahh the burning eyeball flesh smell! Lol, it wasn't tooo terrible. I did smell it, but I was too freaked out by not actually being able to see the blinking the red light I was supposed to focus on. It became a huge area instead of the pinpoint area I was expecting, so I was freaking out about my eyes moving and screwing things up, lol. Then things were really foggy the first day which had me a tad worried, but it seems to get better each morning so far. I'll have to get a pic of my snazzy goggles for you all!
The one-day check-up went well. The doc was different than both the one who did the consult and the surgeon, but she was nice enough. When I tested to see what size letters each eye could read, my right was slightly worse than my left, but they said there was more astigmatism in that eye. So she said that it doesn't matter how long it takes it just matters where it ends up. So we shall see if it catches up to my left eye. At this point the only problems I'm having are a little bi of fogginess that comes and goes, but once I put drops in it gets better. When they get dry it just feel like how my contacts used to feel, so it's not really uncomfortable.
Went to the gym today again with Bri (my hamstrings are still KILLING me from Friday morning!) Did more form work and he showed me I can do facepulls with the cable up high since I can't move the cables. He also did these things where you hold a 5-lb plate in your hand, and while standing, bring your arm up to 90 degrees so your elbow is bent and humerous is parallel to the floor and in teh plane of the scapula. Then from there you rotate down and back up. I have no idea if there's actually a name for that or not, but it was good for my shoulder.... by "good" I mean "hurt like woah" but it will make it stronger and hopefully help to fix my imbalance. The we worked on squats again. And.... we FIXED MY FORM ISSUE!!! I feel like I'm backtracking since I have to work with much lower weight. But we figured out that I hyper extending my back (I have really tight hip flexors and Bri thinks that's part of the problem). I have to work on getting my pelvis used to being in normal position again. Apparently I've accidentally trained it to tilt anteriorly, and so my back arches more than it's supposed to. It took a while to figure out what the heck my problem was. At first I kept telling him "it doesn't feel right" and when I watched his form I said "how come I look like a duck when I do it and you dont?" lol. The he watched me again and said I might be going too low because I was "dumping" my butt at the bottom. So I watched him again and I noticed that his butt didn't "dump" because it was already "dumped" (to me) when he started. Somehow, this very sophistacated terminology translated into us figuring out I wasn't dumping at the bottom, I was getting back to normal from my hyper-un-dumped starting position. I think my problem was that I was trying too hard to start the movement from the hips and ended up hyper extending the lower back and pushing my butt out without keeping my core completely set. So now that we fixed it and I know what my problem is, I should be able to work on these.
I wish I could have worked on DL form, but we did it a little bit on Friday and I'll see him next weekend again, so we might be able to work on it then. I just have a very lazy butt that doens't like to activate at the bottom of the squat and the deadlift positions. Needs work, but hopefully I'll se ebetter strength gains from the better form.
Next weekend we're planning on going either skiing or tubing, so I'm really excited. And my sister's bf gave us giftcards for the rock-climbing place he works at, so if we can all get together we're going to go rock-climbing too. The doc said my eyes will be fine with the skiing if I can wear goggles, which of course I don't have. But there's a guy at work I talk to all the time who is pretty big into skiing so maybe I can borrow a pair of goggles for the weekend. And with the rock-climbing we won't use chalk, so the eyes should be ok.
OK... on to get caught up on logs since I've been MIA this whole weekend pretty much
Hey Kara--we went to North Carolina a couple weeks after I had my surgery, and I had to wear those goggles THERE!!! I have some funny pics of that for sure!
Glad you fixed your squat form--and have fun skiing!
Sounds like some fun adventures coming up. Glad to hear the eyes are all good. I have heard about those goggles - sounds comical!
I am jealous you have a form coach! I wonder about my form a lot. I try to look in the mirror when I can, but its no substitute for having someone who knows help you and be patient with you, too!
Thanks Bree... and boy does he need patience with me sometimes! I gave him some whining Friday morning because I was a tad pissy I couldn't get my squats right. He's a saint to put up with my crap sometimes, lol. It is nice to have a form coach when he's around, which isn't always. He's in PA, I'm in VA, but we make it work. That 4 hour drive can be a bitch sometimes though.
I'm gonna see if I can get a good pic of these goggles with my camera.... be back in a bit if it works!
