Meals

m1: Oats, pumpkin, sun butter, stevia, ON casein PP, banana cake with chocolate frosting
m2: Grilled chicken strips, fat free feta, Kraft Light Balsamic Vinaigrette, tomato, mixed greens, banana Vita muffin, grapes
m3: Greek yogurt, stevia, glucomannan, dark cocoa, Better 'N PB, frozen cherries & mixed berries, ON casein PP

m5: Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich

Calories burned: 2788
Steps: 15,561
Deficit: 898
Sleep efficiency: 61%, 5 hours

Training:

DL 2 x 15 x 45

Step up 2 x 15 x BW
supersetted with
DB 1 arm press 2 x 15 x 10

Close grip pulldown 1 x 15 x 40, 1 x 15 x 42.5
supersetted with
reverse crunch (on incline) 1 x 14, 1 x 15 (I had the incline set too high both times to get to 20)

According to the GWF, I burned about 137 calories training and 283 calories walking 50 minutes at lunch to Trader Joe's and back, which sounds about right.

There was no excuse for straying from the diet yesterday other than that I'm a sucker for cake.

Today's plan:

LISS cardio 30 mins on treadmill after work and 1500 cals. I'm also going to walk around at lunch for at least 30 mins. I want to get hubby some Reese's PB hearts for Valentine's Day and I think I'll stop at H&M to look around because I haven't been there in awhile.

Friday:

Calories

Goal/actual: 1500/1890 (136P, 204C, 65F)

Meals

m1: Trader Joe's crustless quiche, grapefruit, PB with roasted flax seeds
m2: Roast turkey, sprouted wheat bread, grapefruit
m3: Cottage cheese, apple, PB with roasted flax seeds
m4: Bison burger, edamame, butternut squash fries, PB

Calories burned: 2545
Steps: 16,194
Deficit: 992
Sleep efficiency: 69%, 5 hours 15 mins

Cardio

30 mins LISS cardio on treadmill (HR 55% MHR)

Today's Plan:

NROL "A" training from break-in workout, cheat meal tonight.

Default Day 41 - Feb. 14

Calories

Meals

m1: Oats, pumpkin, PB with roasted flax seeds, vanilla PP
**TRAINING**
m2: Oh Yeah mini bar
m3: Raisin bran, skim milk, vanilla PP, blueberries
m4: 3 pieces French bread, flat iron steak, goat cheese, grilled vegetables, champagne, red wine
m5: Chocolate souffle

I don't have any GWF numbers to report because, unfortunately, the arm band has given me a rash so I can't wear it. So far I feel like I've completely wasted $200.

Training:

Squat 2 x 15 x 30

Split squats 2 x 15 x 20
supersetted with
2 point DB row with elbow out 2 x 15 x 12.5

Pushup 2 x 15 x BW
supersetted with
Swiss ball crunch 2 x 15 x 10

I don't know if it's because I feel like I'm fighting something or if I overdid it this week, but I felt awful at the gym yesterday - tired, weak and lightheaded. I tried to do 30 minutes on the elliptical after training but only managed 5. Then I stupidly walked from the gym to Trader Joe's (about 15 blocks), so by the time I came home I was exhausted.

We had a nice steak dinner for Valentine's Day but I probably should have eaten a little something before we went to the restaurant because I was starving when we got there and had 3 small pieces of french bread. I walked some of it off, though, because we forgot to transfer trains so we ended up walking home about 10 blocks.

I haven't stepped on the scale since I had a cheat meal last night but my abdomen has been getting huge the last few days (not just visually but my pants are getting tight). My legs are also either getting bigger or just swollen because my pants are getting tight there, too.

Sunday's Plan:

I was going to do yoga this morning but hubby got up before me. (At least I finally feel like I got some rest last night). I think I'll do at least a 30 minute walk instead.

Hubby just found out that Amazon finally has the Wii Fit in stock so he's ordering once for us. I'm going to either return the GWF or try to sell it on Amazon.

Default Day 42 - Feb. 15

Calories

Goal/actual: 1500/1318 (93P, 34F, 162C)

Meals

m1: Banana vita muffin, egg whites, chopped spinach, Better 'N PB
M2: Greek yogurt, frozen cherries & mixed berries, PB with roasted flax seeds, casein PP
m3: Boboli thin crust, extra lean ground turkey, pineapple, mixed greens, tomato, Kraft Light Balsamic Vinaigrette
m4: Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich

I was dead tired and either coming down with a cold or allergies because I was sneezing, congested and my eyes were really irritated. Needless to say, I did nothing other than sleep and go to the grocery store. My skin was still irritated so I still couldn't wear the GWF.

Today's Plan:

1500 calories and NROL "B" training from break-in program.

I've noticed a really weird trend with my weight and I don't get it.

Bigger diet deficit plus moderate activity=maintain
Moderate deficit plus increased activiy=gain
No deficit/surplus plus increased activity=maintain

I have no idea what this means so I'm not sure how to proceed.

I also did my measurements for the EP challenge and they are back to where they were when I started. Weight is also fluctuating between 141 and 145.

Default Day 43 - Feb. 16

Calories

Goal/actual: 1500/1507 (119P, 49F, 151C)

Meals

m1: Cottage cheese, blackberries, pineapple, grapes, sunflower seeds
M2: Boboli thin crust, extra lean ground turkey, pineapple, mixed greens, tomato, Kraft Light Balsamic Vinaigrette
m3: Apple, sunflower seed butter
m4: Egg whites, sprouted wheat bread, turkey bacon, PB
m5: Greek yogurt, stevia, casein PP, Better 'N PB, wheat germ

Too depressed to go to the gym.

Today's Plan:

Another day, another dollar, another pound, another inch on my abdomen (yes, a whole inch since yesterday, I measured it).

I'll make up yesterday's training today, as well as 30 minutes low intensity on the treadmill at lunch or outside, depending on the weather.

Thanks, but it's just a funk. A lot of it is that my workout clothes are getting tighter and tighter (as are the rest of my clothes) so I don't want to see myself in a mirror, which is hard to avoid there.

I even tried taking some water pills yesterday thinking I was just retaining water but the scale (and my belly) actually went up.

This is very confusing. Have you thought maybe talking to Leigh about everything, maybe she can offer you some suggestions.

BTW-looks like someone is a little defensive about your questions, maybe someone peed in her oatmeal?

Ha! I stopped reading that thread because I wasn't trying to be argumentative with her at first but I could tell that it was going in that direction. I just think if you aren't following a plan exactly as it's laid out, you shouldn't say you're following THAT plan; especially when you state at the beginning that you hope to be some kind of example of how the plan works. Oh, well - whatever.

I asked about my situation on Lyle's nice forum but the only suggestions I'm getting are things I've already tried - decreased cals with decreased activity and decreased cals with increased activity. Decreased cals don't seem to get me anywhere; the only benefit would be that I would at least stop gaining, I suppose, but I would be miserable and hungry all the time. I sent a PM to Mandy at O2 to get her thoughts and I'll probably ask Leigh, too.

I'm not sure. I've maintained on 2,000-2,500 calories as recently as last year so I don't see how my metabolism can be so low I would gain on 1500 calories.

One of the things I asked Mandy was whether it could be a water issue. My system appears to be fairly sensitive (i.e., the allergies and eczema) and I wonder if too much of a deficit and too much activity could cause it to start retaining water.

That could be something that needs to be looked at, bodies do weird things when they are stressed, and with all the stuff that's going on with your rashes, sounds very stressed to me.

I heard back from Mandy and she suggested I try to lose with diet alone, no exercise. She said that my chronic dieting in the past may mean I have an overly sensitive system, which would explain water fluctuations but not weight retention long term and that my body is trying to conserve calories.

It depends. I asked her if I could still do a couple of low intensity shorter walks outside to de-stress. If she thinks that's okay, then I'll be fine with it, at least for the time being. She said I could add exercise back in if I start to notice a trend of weight loss but I'm not sure how much exercise or how long she thinks I should wait.

I haven't tried a deficit plus no weight training so that may work.

I'm glad (doesn't that sound weird to say). But given what I've read about what's been happening to you, I could understand it being worse but was really hoping it was not.

Was going to quote some of the in-between conversation, but it sounds like you all have what I would have suggested covered.

Just want you to know you have a (mostly-silent) cheerleader.

No need to be silent here! I need cheerleaders, hand holders, drill sergeants, moms and friends.

Default Day 44 - Feb. 17

Calories

Goal/actual: 1500/1323 (105P, 50F, 109C)

Meals

m1: Egg whites, turkey bacon, sprouted wheat bread, blackberries, Better 'N PB
M2: Greek yogurt, dark cocoa, stevia, sun butter, casein PP, frozen cherries & mixed berries, glucomannan
m3: Flatiron steak, edamame, Kraft Light Balsamic Vinaigrette, mixed greens, tomato
m4: Better 'N PB, sprouted wheat bread, sun butter, sugar free orange marmalade

I took a low intensity 30 minute walk at lunch around Millennium Park.

I was able to wear the GWF all day. Surprisingly, it gave me readings more in line with the Bugg, although I didn't wear it to sleep; I wonder if that was the difference?

Calories burned: 2167
Steps: 12,210
Deficit: 844
Today's Plan:

Today's Plan:

1500 cals, no exercise again. I think I'll play around with the Wii Fit when I get home, though.

It's getting harder to find clothes to fit around my bulbous abdomen, which is even bigger today. TMI alert - it's definitely next constipation, as I'm back to going several times a day again, which is quite odd for me. I was hoping to find a caftan or mumu in my closet this morning but no such luck.

I have a confession to make this morning - I just ate 3 chocolate chip cookies. How could I resist - they were still warm!

I'm with you here. I only meant silent in that even if I don't post a comment, I'm still cheering you on.

If you can't determine a consistent pattern to your bloating, you might want to be looked at by a GI doctor. Between that and your rash, you might have something going on that's connected to both.

Fortunately the rash is gone (at least for now), except for the irritation I got from the GWF, which was a different issue.

The bloating is strange because it's not that painful or uncomfortable bloating you get from constipation, gas, etc. If I didn't know better, I would think it was fat, but it can't be based on what I've been eating.

Krispy,

I've been reading your log but not commenting as don't have much to add. Thought I'd mention it though as I'm sometimes lax about letting people know I'm cheering them on.

Sorry things have been so frustrating lately though. Good luck with whatever you decide.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one out there that's struggling. It seems like the ones that are dropping weight like crazy are a lot more vocal than those of us who can't.

So an actual real question.

I noticed that some are doing fruit for PWO on the OPT remix. Even though it's a high GI, I figured since it said no fruit, that meant no fruit. your take?

Well, I did fruit because that was something I really missed on the diet. Otherwise, I did follow the no-fruit admonishment.

I suppose if you want to do everything very strict and by the book you wouldn't have fruit PWO; however, I can't see how fruit, especially PWO, would hinder fat loss.

Of course, I also have a really tough time losing weight, so I may not be the best one to ask.
