Ah, now I'm beginning to understand... I was in Boulder for the Bolder Boulder a few years back and it made for some.... rather interesting people watching.
DH didn't used to like to visit b/c he said there were too many "rainbow people." I think he was scared his redneck would get too colorful. Now he just likes to peoplewatch too.
I won't be around this coming weekend...we're heading up into the mountains for a Valentine's/birthday getaway. We're going to a B&B that is completely off-grid: solar power, no cell phone coverage, and you have to go the last 5 miles to the house by snowmobile. I'm planning on lots of snowshoeing! Plus the room has a jacuzzi tub...I'd invite you, Celeste, but I think the pain of traveling here would outdo any benefit you might gain from the jacuzzi.
Besides, it might make DH cranky. He likes you and all, but still...
Needless to say, I won't have internet access until we get back!

We like to call it the Free Republic of Boulder, thank you very much . Yep, it's an interesting place. Never boring.

I have a step-sister that lives in Denver, btw.
The Bolder Boulder is too crazy for me. I'm one of those people who schedules her gym visits for the least-crowded times; the craziness of the Bolder Boulder scares me.
I have a friend, though, who visited, saw all the scantily-dressed females running/jogging/roller blading along the bike paths, and promptly decided that Boulder was the best place to live. (He was male .) If you want to get in shape, Boulder will either encourage you (because there are LOTS of things to do, LOTS of healthy food & exercise options, and LOTS of really fit people running around) or discourage you (mostly because everyone here is so much fitter than normal in our country).
Of course, the flip side is that I get to go from feeling slightly chubby to skinny whenever I travel .
Thank you, thank you! I'm getting excited about it. Time to pack soon! I'll try to take pics so you can see if I'm as crazy as my sister in snowshoes . Only problem--no snow pants. So if DH tips ME over in the snow, he's in mega-big trouble.
Diane-Denver is the normal city. We've only got your run of the mill bums riding their bikes in bubbles (yup, I actually saw that happen today--he crafted a bubble out of clear bags and tape).
For what it's worth, the Bolder Boulder is a bit too much for me too. The only time we ever get out there these days is when we go to the Dark Horse to play air hockey. It's one of the only bars around that has a table.
Either way, Cherly, I totally agree; there are more than enough fit people out here! I feel a little chunky here but extremely skinny when I go back to Texas or Pennsylvania...

Wow, that does sound like a great place to live. I think we are dead opposite here. Fit people are few and far between. The fat people at work look at me like I'm an alien sometimes. I don't think they trust anyone who would actually make healthy eating and exercise a part of their lifestyle. The few thin people still eat crappy and don't exercise, it just hasn't caught up to them yet.
I always thought that Boulder would be a great place to live! I've never been there, but those I know who do and from what I have seen/read, it seems like my kind of place!
Okay: it's official. I have to start logging my food again. When I don't I do a much crappier job choosing my meals, I plan less, and I'm more likely to have that glass of wine (or second glass of wine) with dinner.
I've just been embarrassed to admit what I'm eating. But now I've told y'all, I'd better get to it!
This morning:
whole grain bagel
1 Tbs cheddar cheese
1 Tbs margarine
1 egg
8 ounces nonfat milk...OH, SHOOT! My milk is still in the cooler on the front porch...be back later!
Wow, I thought everyone in Southern California was tanned, fit, and lean!
The high desert is a different animal--at least the people are. As for tan, I gave it up years ago. I learned to embrace my glow-the-dark paleness. Just because I'm a minority I seen no reason why I should be ashamed of being white, after all.
Can I suggest logging on sparkpeople.com and posting links in your log? That way you can see what calories you're taking in and macros too.
That's what I was doing last month, but it got too time-consuming...only it's not as time-consuming if it's what works, is it?! I've started using it again.
C1: Step-up 3 x 9 x 15ea. C2: Prone Jackknife 2 x 12, 1 x 10
The coolest thing about this workout? I was itching to do a bit more when I finished . I had some problems with the push-ups and prone jackknifes (jackknives?) because of that weird blister on my right hand. It's right on the knuckle, so I can put my weight on my knuckles like I usually do. (I have intermittent problems with tendonitis in my right hand--all that writing .) Not sure what the blister is from, but it's taking FOREVER to heal. I really wonder if it's a spider bite (shudder--I hate spiders!!!)
I just started reading your log and wanted to say "hi."

Count me as a fan of the boots. Finally being able to fit into tall crazy cool boots like those some day is on the long list of incentives for me to lose weight. (OK, maybe it's behind not-keeling-over-from-a-stroke... but not too far behind!)

Is the rat still in residence? I've lived with a few of them over the years.

Those rats have, alas, passed on--but we have another pair now (my younger son's).

Hi everyone! I'm back in the land of real life, where I'm *almost* feeling back on track. At least family-wise. As you can tell from the food stuff (below) I'm still a bit off kilter there, primarily because I didn't have anything healthy around when I got hungry, so I downed a small pile of peanut butter cookies . Hence, the high calories and fat.
Over the weekend, though, we went for two snowshoeing hikes, one for 2 hours and one for an hour and a half--both at 11,000+ feet and VERY intense. It was BEAUTIFUL. Cold, especially because I couldn't go more than a half dozen steps without building up a sweat (and getting out of breath!) but absolutely perfect. Beautiful, blue skies, fresh powder, lots of wildlife tracks (altho we didn't see anything--just as well, because one set of tracks belonged to something REALLY big, which we're guessing was a wolf), lots of fun. No exercise yesterday, unless you count chasing kids and lugging luggage back to where it belongs .
Here's yesterday's calories, etc.:
Calories: 2,216 (more than I'd like! I have healthy food around for today)
Carbs: 262
Fat: 99
Protein: 72
It's hard to see, but this is a photo of a sign telling trail users to stop and register...except, of course, that the registration box is buried .
This is a pic from the cabin's balcony...The place was off-grid, with big tracking solar panels, an outdoor wood furnace, and a 400 gallon hot water tank, which was used to heat the house (in-floor radiant heat) as well as the hot tub and the in-house hot water (for pretty much endless showers, very weird in the mountains!) The owners built the cabin themselves and it shows: it was definitely a labor of love.
So...if you ever feel like a romantic mountain getaway, this is definitely not your run-of-the-mill Colorado vacation! We're already planning to return next V-day .
