Cheryl, that workout does look good. Sorry about the low energy--at least you got some red though! I'm wondering what other people will say about the hunger. I have a couple of thoughts--first of all, when you're eating in a deficit, you're bound to be hungry. Also, you probably were listening to your body--you've been transitioning into becoming a very active person, including lifting weights, which is pretty taxing, and your body is saying, "help! Feed me! I need more energy!" The question is whether you can manage the deficit that will help you lose weight even better now that your metabolism is ramped up. So I suppose there are a lot of other factors--lack of sleep makes me hungrier, sometimes eating too many carbs makes me hungry, could be hormones, etc. But hey, it's one day--and you didn't totally freak out food-wise, so I say you're doing ok. (Doesn't that ease your mind? )
Yeah, that helps. Actually, I thought I DID freak out food-wise. I retreated to my room around 7:00 for a Mom time-out (I was definitely overtired and thin-skinned!) and was down on myself about how bad I'd been with food...and then I realized that I HADN'T been that bad with food. I'd stopped with one glass of wine (my weakness, esp. when I'm down), I'd had a few treats, and I'd bulked up on the healthy stuff. So that helped, too.
I'm actually not trying to eat at a deficit. Acc. to Sparkpeople, those are the calories I need to maintain my current weight--but maybe the numbers are off, especially on lifting days.
Speaking of Sparkpeople--I like to use their nutrition tracker to make sure I'm on track food-wise (plus, it keeps me from conveniently "forgetting" any excesses. Harder to eat to excess when I have to write it down later, even if no one sees but me!) I was recording today's food and thought I was doing great--until I saw that I'd practically reached my calorie limit, and it's not even lunch time.
Turns out that I recorded eating 25 cups of red bell peppers with breakfast! Given the volume, they added a surprisingly low number of calories....

LOL...I love that. Just of think of all the Vitamin C! And, um, gas?
Cherly, with all your added activity, I'm guessing that 1600-1900 cals is a deficit for you. I actaully aim for 1600-1800cals as my deficit range. And even with that, I find that every few weeks, I need a refeed day where I eat at or just above maintenance, which is around 2000-2400cals.
It could be that you're actually eating at a deficit without knowing it and just needed a refeed (and a glass of wine). Did you do the calculation in NROL4W to get your calories?

I was going to suggest that as well. In the log sheets I emailed you, it even calculates it for you if you plug in your height, weight, etc. The first page. Yeah, I was doing 1600-1800 as my deficit for a very long time, and losing.

That's actually where I got the numbers--1557 for no workout and 1817 for a workout day.

I definately find myself feeling hungrier when I haven't slept well - and eating too many carbs makes me want to binge on even more carbs!
Oh my gosh, I'm dying of laughter here! Where do you find these things?!

So maybe a big part of it was just being overtired!
I opted against being overtired again today, which is sort of a bummer because it means I didn't get up to work out early this AM. I was up late last night working on a project due at noon today--and I'm still going to be scrambling to finish it. (Hmm. Then why am I on the boards, you might wonder? Good question. It's because I'm editing a biotech proposal written by someone who doesn't speak English as a first language. My eyes cross after a half hour or so of reading about potential-to-absolute current generators and "smart sensor network integrated with Zero-Power RFID Sensing Tags". Ugh.)
I'm hoping to get to the gym between noon and the end of the school day. After that, I'm scheduled nonstop through Sunday afternoon. Crazy!
Cheryl, if you're very active, maintenance could be even higher. My maintenance range is 1900-2200 with lifting 4 days a week and lots of NEAT. That doesn't even include planned cardio.

That's reassuring! I'll just keeping aiming for healthy foods and a moderate diet and see where it takes me....
Ack! If you don't post for a few days, you know how difficult it is to find your own log? There's a lot of excellent action on this site!
I had a workout-free weekend ; too much family stuff going on. But we managed to have a great b-day party for my now-10-year-old. (I can't believe he's ten!) He must have come up to me five times on Saturday to say how much he "really, really appreciated how hard I was working so that he could have a birthday party...." He's so sweet, he melts me into doing whatever he wants sometimes .
This morning, tho, I hit the gym again. I'm on the second set of Stage I workouts for NROLFW!! I'll have to change the amount of time I allow, tho--three sets of everything .
A: Squats 3 sets of 10: 2 x 10 x 75#, 1 x 10 x 80#
B1: Push-Ups 3 sets of (10): bw, only made 9 on the second set B2: Seated Row 3 sets of 10: 3 x 10 x 65#
C1: Step-Ups 3 sets of 10: 3 x 10 x 2(10# dbs) C2: Prone Jackknife 3 sets of 10: 3 x 10
...and then home to get the kiddos off to school. It's cold and snowy again here--brrr! I want to go back to the gym and jump into that hot tub!! Usually the dogs and I walk to the dog park after I walk my youngest to school, but it was too cold today. The boxer (think VERY short hair) was picking up his paws one after the other, as if the ground was too cold to touch!
The workout felt good. I hope I'll be able to push up the weights a bit next workout!
That's why I bookmark my log, using the same link as in my signature.
That's a good idea. Right now, I've only bookmarked the challenge training logs.

It actually felt much better than the two sets. I was just thinking I should ask if I was doing something wrong, because after the first few workouts I wasn't feeling hugely tired and sore afterward. By the third set, I had really had to push to complete.
Doing the lower reps lets me use a higher weight than I probably could have, even if I'd only been doing 2 sets of 12 rather than 3 sets of 10. I like that, too--more red numbers soon !
Great looking workout Cheryl! You'll figure out the food stuff - it just takes some time and (unfortunately) patience.
Patience? What?! No one warned me that I'd need patience for this training stuff!
Last night, hubby said, "Well, you may not be losing weight--" (I'd been complaining about the lack of scale movement) "but you're definitely toning." And I realized that, come to think of it, my clothes are all feeling a bit looser around the waist and hips...so I must be doing something!
I think the biggest struggle, for me, is to make the time to plan out healthy meals, cook, exercise, and all that. I have to keep making a conscious decision to carve out an hour here and there...or I try to get everything done without allowing the time to do it, and wonder why I fail! Go figure . Making the time for healthy living probably takes patience, too!

Yeah, that's the biggest thing for me too--I think I'm doing better, but sometimes stuff at home suffers b/c I seem to take too much time reading/exercising/cooking.
Nice job on that workout - I love seeing lots of red!

Great workout. Lots of red!
Yeah, it's nippy out. I can still get my exercise indoors, but it's a lot harder to exercise the dogs inside. They don't mind, as long as I'm sitting on the couch to serve as a pillow (the boxer--Beau--is snoring with his head on my hip right now. It's pretty funny!) But if I leave, Beau takes all that excess energy and uses it to collect small, valuable objects (think Wii remotes, eyepods, headphones, etc.) and chew them into tiny bits just inside the front door. We've tried to crate train him, but he's REALLY crate-averse. He's the first dog I had that didn't like the crate. If we shut him in it, though, he licks the door and drools. A LOT. It obviously stresses him out.
Oh, well. He's probably saving me money at the coffee shop!

Definitely! It's hard to find the right balance, especially since my kids seem to need a lot of extra time right now. I have to keep reminding myself that if I exercise (well, exercise adn write ) then I'm a better mom!
Wow - a dog that doesn't like his crate? All of our dogs have always loved 'em, and once they learned to go in (usually only took a day or 2) they now happily run up and wait for us to shut the doors when we're leaving... poor Beau!!! Cuz, yeah - they love to tip over the trash can and party and stuff like that when we leave 'em loose! Do you know how much stuffing is in one couch pillow?!?!?

My dog (Suzee) hates the crate too. She would whine and bark the entire time she was in it; I couldn't take it, so I sold it. Since then, I've learned to put everything away, otherwise, yeah, she'll get it. I accidently left my phone on the end table one day. She managed to call my boyfriend before completely destroying it.
Suzee used to be really bad when I left the house; she even used to peel the paint off the walls. But she's gotten much better lately. The only thing she really goes after now is the kitchen towel. And, compared to how she used to be, she can have the towel.
I had a cat dial 911 once - actually my MIL had programmed an "emergency" button on the house phone and the cat knocked it down and phoned 911. I heard the clatter and put the phone back. Then 911 called back to see if we had a emergency
Hilarious about the pets dialing the phone. Reminds me of the time my 4 year old answered the phone while I was in the shower (a no-no, btw) and said, "She can't come to the phone, she's naked." Fortunately, I found out later it was a girlfriend who ROFLOL when my daughter said that!
Same here....Violet HATES the crate. Now, she will go in it sometimes if I put her toys in there, but not to stay! I've just taken the door off of it. And, since she sleeps in bed with me, I don't need to worry about using it for that. Right now, I just put up a baby gate, giving her the laundry room and the entry way while I am at work. So, she has her crate, her bed, her food/water, and her doggy 'litter' box. I'm hoping to be able to give her run of the house pretty soon here. So far, she's worked her way up to a little over 2 hours without a problem. I'll keep increasing it and see how she does!

Eek! Did your boyfriend think it was you calling, maybe breathing heavily into the phone? Anyways, I know what you mean about the towel. Some things, when Beau eats them, I'm just grateful it wasn't anything worse!
I try putting everything away, but it just ain't happening in this house. I've also tried putting him in the laundry room, using the crate as a makeshift gate--and even though I was in the next room, he panted and freaked out and, finally, jumped over the crate. He's pretty pathetic. He'll run into his crate after I let him out, though, to grab whatever treat I put in there with him. It's pretty funny--he acts like he's sneaking into enemy territory.

Wow, this had me laughing! Sounds like something my boys would do....
Thanks for sharing all your crazy animal stories. I guess I should be glad Beau hasn't telephoned China yet or anything like that!
B1: Dumbbell shoulder press 3 x 10 x 2@15 B2: Wide-grip lat pulldown 3 x 10 x 70
C1: Lunge 3 x 10 x 2@10 C2: Swiss ball crunch 3 x 12 x bw+5
You know, until I typed it up here I didn't realize that I went up in every exercise. I couldn't keep good form through the last set of db shoulder presses and the rest were definitely the max I could do. I'm going to be sore! (In a very, very nice way .)
Got back from working out late again, tho. My DH is being very understanding, but I think I need to allow 15-20 min. longer for these 3 set workouts. I don't feel like I'm working out longer, but I must be, because I can't get home on time anymore!
