You're all a bunch of crazy cheeseheads. You know that, right?
Congrats on being able to overcome the sick, pathetic hubby and get in gear! You're a better woman than me -- I just give up those days and sulk.
And, yes, it's already been discussed to death but I so love that your pic looks like Nancy Travis! A very cool brother of mine reminds me so much of Mike Meyers (the kooky love interest of Nancy Travis in the Axe Murderer movie) in the way he acts. Whenever I see your pic, I think of him and grin.
The best part of So I Married an Axe Murderer is Mike Myers as the Scottish dad yelling at the red-headed kid for having a big head and blocking the tv!
Good job with getting up early to do your workouts. Sorry your hubby is sick. You have my sympathy...
If you like Asiago then chances are you'll like the Dubliner. (And if you've not tried Asiago, then what're you waiting for? )
Oh, I LOVE Asiago!

Oh, good--glad it's not just me! Thanks for all the encouragement.
I feel them afterward, so I know I'm doing something. And then I have SO much more energy during the day. It seems counterintuitive. Why would exercise, which uses energy and tires your muscles, make you feel more energetic later?

Great workouts. Tom's right, sometimes it's the short ones that really do you in!
Yeah, CO is a funny place to live. I also love that it was sunny by noon, and half the roads already dry. My kids wanted to know why CO doesn't plow the side streets, like they do in PA. I said it was because the sun didn't shine all winter in PA--the snow never gets a chance to melt!

I know, I'm getting there! Actually made it through all the lunges carrying weights today. Only 5 pounders, but still, it's an improvement!

Well, that option was a close second. I let him know the options, tho: cranky wife staying home versus happy wife gone for an hour or so...he picked the happy version .

Thank you! He's hanging in there...just a rotten cold. I shoveled all the snow and dug out the car for him because, of course, he went in to work this afternoon.

I actually sometimes wonder that too...my road is a sheet of ice, and it's a bus route!

Just subscribing to your log Cheryl... welcome! (Even though by now you've been here quite a while )
Add me to the early morning riser group! It is hard to get into the habit initially, but I find that now that I've been doing it for a year and a half, it's second nature. I often wake up before the alarm even... which, btw, goes off at 4am. )
Great workouts! I'll look forward to following your journey... it sounds like you've already made a LOT of progress on the mental aspects of it!

Remember the early morning discussion? Well, DH has to leave early for work today so I had to get up extra early or postpone working out until tomorrow, esp. since my younger kiddo sounded like he might be staying home from school today. I decided I'd be a better (less grumpy ) mom if I worked out...so I was up at 5:00 am and heading to the gym. I'm happy!
Here's the day's workout, short and sweet:
A: Squats 2 sets (12 x 65#, 12 x 70#) edited to include that barbell!
B1: Push-up 2 sets (12 x 30 degrees) B2: Seated Row 2 sets (12 x 55#, 12 x 60#)
C1: Step-up 2 x 12 x 20# C2: Prone Jackknife 2 x 10
I'm having a snack before heading to the gym, which definitely helps. Not totally happy about my squat form--I have very inflexible ankles, so my thighs don't really get parallel to the floor. But most of my weights are going up already. That's very cool! I didn't expect to see a change so quickly.

Now we'll see if I need a nap later .
Those step-ups are amazing. I've been at this for 2 years and still can't do step-ups with 20 lb db's with proper form!
Ah, I see! You might want to report like this: 12x10's (12 reps with 10 lb db's). Oh, and 10 lb db's are really good. I stayed at BW and stepping on the weight bench for months before I graduated to weights!
Wow, Cheryl! You really do rock! I think I would have stayed home...but regretted it later. Naps are good...
That workout looked good, also. It's obvious you're pushing yourself to be able to raise weights this quickly, which is exactly what is recommended in the book. The squats are impressive to me, b/c I never had an opportunity to do them with a barbell (only dumbells) until just recently. I think I only progressed to 80 or 90# (holding them is just tough, and they pull on your arms and shoulders in a weird way). If you're looking to increase your ankle mobility, you could try some foam-rolling, dynamic stretching (movement-oriented, not held for long periods of time), and some body weight squats all before your workout (as part of a warmup).
It might also be a good idea, as you push the weights up, to do a lighter warmup set just prior to your work sets to get your body ready for that particular movement.

Yup - what Jane said! I'm using 8's for 15 reps - so that is AWESOME for just starting out!!
And good for you getting up and out the door - I woulda stayed in bed.....
I'm like everyone else...I'd have stayed in bed. Which is why I work out in the evening. I'm not at all a morning person and don't know how people do it!

I stretch and do a warmup set of squats just with body weight before I start my workout--I haven't been including warmup acitivities here. I'll have to look up foam rolling and ankles--since I'm such a big foam rolling fan now!
Hey, guess what? I found a foam roller at the gym! I'm not sure where they're stored; the one I found was stashed behind a table.

Thanks! That's encouraging, because I was feeling wimpy. Step-ups are HARD! Those and lunges. Lunges kill me! I probably won't be upping those weights for a while.

The funny this is that I am a morning person--but I haven't been living like one. I'm kind of enjoying the early morning quiet. That's how I used to get alone time when I lived with my parents and two younger sibs--I'd get up really early. Not so much now, though. Sleep's harder to come by as a parent!
Ooh, cool about the foam roller! The program I'm doing has you foam roll before a workout--I had always done it afterwards but it makes perfect sense to do it before. I did find some videos on youtube about ankle mobilization, some using tennis balls to loosen up the calves.

Yay! Will you send me the links? I couldn't find anything helpful about ankles.
