I'm actually looking forward to weighing in. Before the challenge I was weighing myself every day, but I haven't weighed since the start. I've been doing very well with my diet, so I'm sure I'll see a decent loss even if I can't see any changes yet in the pics.
The bad news is, I pulled or strained something along my ribs, and it hurts too much to work out. I'm beginning to think that Power Training is jinxing me. I can only seem to get three weeks in before something happens to stop me in my tracks. I was going to try a modified workout, but then I figured since I can't even roll over in bed, I have no business trying to lift weights. So I went to the gym and sat in the jacuzzi instead.
Question for any of you ladies who have done Power Training...
I'm wondering why this program has a twisting and a bridging ab exercise every day. I'm doing the 4 day push-pull split, and I'm just tired of doing so much ab work, especially because the whole routine is done with free weights anyway. Would it be terrible if I just did one ab exercise each training day? Alternating bridging with twisting work?
I think Jane is right on the reasoning but I understand your feelings. I admit, I sometimes substituted exercises from New Rules or skipped the ab stuff all together - I was so sick of doing it.
Like others said, I'm sure Dos had his reasons for including those exercises. And my Oly coach seems to put that kind of stuff in at the end too...
Having said all that, I dropped the core stuff from my Power Training workouts pretty early on, as it just seemed to take too long to do it all (I was doing full body instead of push pull)... I still did some core training, but not at the end of each workout.
I need a good kick, too. I have been incredibly hungry this week, maybe because of TOM. I ended up going off plan yesterday by 200 calories. I've been incredibly hungry again so far today but I want to have a good week before the check in!
Hi ladies! I have been mostly out/off plan here lately with the hand business. Went back for my follow up yesterday and my grip is still shot, but I've been encouraged by the doc to do whatever I can and utilize my lifting straps to "lighten the load" whenever possible. I'm planning on posting stats/pics that show no change for the first month... but HEY! This is a 6 mo. challenge and darnit! I'm not letting the next 6 months pass me by with NO PROGRESS! I'm going to take this weekend to sort out diet details, nail a definite plan, cook up some good eats, plan workouts, etc. etc. etc.
My daughter is scheduled for surgery to have the tubes in her ears replaced on Friday the 13th! The following Friday I go for the final follow up with the hand doc, and *if* all is well and it feels "normal" again, strength/grip has returned to 'mostly normal' then I can begin to consider surgery. Yes... you read that right, heal it, then consider about surgery! I broke it almost 20 yrs ago, and again about 3 yrs ago. There's a lump of calcium deposit in the crook of my thumb and index finger, and, in all honesty, I should have it removed, the sooner the better. The biggest part is whether the calcium deposit it embedded in the ligament or outside it. If outside, surgery and rehab should be a breeze, if it's embedded in the ligament, it'll be rougher, including 4-6 weeks in a full cast, with ligament from the inside of my wrist used to replace the ligaments in my thumb. With a $2500 per person, per year deductible on my health insurance... well, I really cant afford to do anything but sit home and tend to my diet/exercise/bodyfat goals!!!!
At any rate, I'm still in, and pledging minimal change for the 1st check in, but I'm not giving up!!!!
1st goal for this coming week is to keep up with this thread, the daily check in, as I cannot keep up with each journal at the moment.
Wishing everybody success and progress for this first month check in!
Deb
A woman was profiled this morning on our local news channel. She is an 82-year old great-grandmother and she is a power lifter and actually competes! She started lifting when she was 74 years old. Her max deadlift is 160 lbs!!! I wish there was an online link to this story. She is amazing!

I hope to all goes well, Deb!

Now I can feel extra shamed when I don't go to the gym! That's awesome!
Congrats to everyone who saw progress in their stats this month!
Wow, Deb! You've got a lot on your plate! Hope everything goes well for you and your daughter...especially with her surgery on Friday the 13th! Good luck with everything!
This is a different woman (unless she's increased her deadlifts in the last couple of years), but take a look at the pictures of the 86-year old great-grandmother....
I'm also finding it tough to get around to all the logs I'm subscribed to. So, just a generic 'great stuff' to everyone, including those who for various reasons, didn't continue.
Now I'm off to try and do a quickie alteration on my interview outfit. What a shock, it doesn't fit... silly procrastinator, should have let a professional do it a couple of weeks ago. Just didn't think I'd need it until later on (and had planned to replace it).
How's everyone doing this month? I'm finding February MUCH easier to get back on track with everything and feeling really good with my progress so far. I'm actually looking forward to updates at the end of the month!
Anyone in need of some extra motivation, a little kick in the behind, or anything?
Seriously though, if it's not freshly made from the shore, it's probably not worth it. Really. Believe me.
I'm doing okay at the moment, but buried in school work. I'm really looking forward to reading week (which up until now I didn't care about), just so I can get caught up on stuff.
I'm still doing well! And now that I finally got some news about work (customer finally signed contract!!!) - I can stress a little less about becoming unemployed!

You're on!!! I was waiting for a challenge like that!! Makes me motivated...thanks Tracey!!
