Yes and no. I have the ones that go up to 52#. I like them because I don't have a gazillion dumbbells. What I don't like is that they're kind of bulky. They're 16" in length, so even if you're using 5#, they're still that long. Width varies depending on the weight. At it's widest, it's about 6-7"

No time to make the rounds on everyone's logs. Hope everyone is doing well!

Just thought I'd say "hi" in here. I haven't had a moment to catch up with logs today (I think I spent WAY too much time doing that when I did have a job - I was so bored there cuz there really wasn't much for me to do towards the end). I do hope to get to them later though, but with karate and "Lost" being back on, not sure... I'll try, though!

Anyway, my log is updated... no pounds lost this month (up down up down up down!!!) but I'm NOT quitting.

Just sliding in to say howdy to everyone! I'm up to my eyeballs in stuff right now but trying to keep an eye on everyone's logs in between splatters of reality.

Can you believe we'll soon be done with January already?!

I can't believe January is almost gone already! How quickly time flies.

I'm doing well, the log is up to date and I don't know if I've made any physical progress this month, but I've gotten my lazy self back on track so I'm in a good place, with a nice new program and everything. I haven't gotten to some people's logs, so hello to those I've missed!

Wow, 16" is long. Maybe I should go with the Powerblocks. Thanks for the info.

I don't really like my powerblocks -- too bulky for me.

I put a ruler on the powerblocks, they're just under 12", at the 50-lb level. However, they are (as Jane said) kind of bulky (~6" across). That doesn't bother me, but I could see that it might. I'd suggest that you go to somewhere that sells both and see how comfortable you are with them before you buy. I used both (with fairly light amounts) before I decided.

Thanks all. Looking at those Selectech at 5lbs I can tell they'll be too long. I've used Sportblocks before with my old trainer and I liked them. Those pics are really helpful Shelley, thanks!

hope you're feeling better jane!!

i've also been in a major time crunch - barely enough time to say "hi" & "bye" to the family (as a matter of fact, didn't see my son at all yesterday!). things are going well - i'm really enjoying the fitness center, especially now that I have a real locker - had to wait in line for two hours - you'd think they were giving away gold!!

also signed up for a research project some students are doing - correlating mood and fitness. hope to see a lot more of that kind of thing happening!!

this weekend is a bit slower than last, so i need to sit down and rethink my energy levels vs my caloric needs - being back in school has increased my activity level nearly 50%! i knew i was a slacker, but i was floored!!

can't believe we're nearly finished the first month - looking forward to seeing everyone's progress!

Looks like I'm not the only one who has been buried in other stuff. Work has been an absolute trainwreck since I got back from travelling. I was going get myself back on track today, and I really haven't. I just wanted to sleep. Tomorrow, however, will be different.

I'm not especially looking forward to measurement day because I haven't worked out in a over a week and I haven't really been able to push myself as hard as I'd like due to an injury.

Fortunately, there are many months ahead, so I'm just going to try to salvage this one as much as I can, work hard and look forward to when we check stats at the end of February.

Although it is kind of a story, it really is true. Even people who make progress don't usually see much with the first set of pictures.

Okay, totally off topic here but can anyone recommend a good dark chocolate? Sometimes I read how people rave about "good" dark chocolate. I looked at the store today and there were so many brands and I don't have a clue. I would like to just have a taste once in awhile but I don't want to waste my money on crap. TIA!

Lindt is really good. I got some chocolate from a company called Lake Champlain at Whole Foods a few weeks ago and it is really tasty, too!

Question for any of you ladies who have done Power Training...

I'm wondering why this program has a twisting and a bridging ab exercise every day. I'm doing the 4 day push-pull split, and I'm just tired of doing so much ab work, especially because the whole routine is done with free weights anyway. Would it be terrible if I just did one ab exercise each training day? Alternating bridging with twisting work?

I don't have an answer for you, but I am assuming that Dos feels it's important to do static core work in addition to the rotational work.
