I haven't looked at this thread in a while, but there's a bunch of good stuff going on. Thanks Jane for the bits of motivation!

I started this challenge with goals for the 6mo period, but since then have really kept myself going by making smaller, weekly goals. These smaller goals are not only my motiviation, but also what's going to help me reach my bigger goals.

Keep up the great work everyone!

My coach gives me a motivation quote everytime I see her, so I guess it was on my mind since I worked with her last night. I want to see all of you motivated throughout this challenge, too, so I'll try to keep everyone pumped up and ready to rock.

Nike bag I saw today:
"Strong is the new beautiful"

(Ben thinks that's from "What Women Want" - hope not, but either way, it's a nice slogan)

Hi Ladies! I've been busy dealing with a bunch of germ spreaders (also known as my children) for the last couple weeks. We've all had a cold and stomach bug. On the plus side it's given me a chance to get through reading all of the OPT info.
I will be starting week 1 of the OPT program on Monday. I've been doing well with the "Diet" part of things. I also plan to weigh in when the next set of pictures are due.
Hope everyone is doing great!

Got my daily motivation in an email today and sharing with all of you:

You Can if You Think You Can!
If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don’t.
If you like to win, but you think you can’t,
It is almost certain you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost,
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow’s will.
It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are.
You’ve got to think high to rise.
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But sooner or later the man who wins,
Is the man who thinks he can.

—C. W. Longenecker

Hee hee! I bought that bag last night! I wanted the shirt too, but it was white and I don't do well with white.

LOLZ! I didn't buy the bag, but I strongly considered it. And I LOVE that slogan too!!!! Maybe Nike needs a page of all its slogans for motivation (or do they have one?)

Hi, ladies! I am hanging in there. My hip issues are back, so until I see the PT this Thursday, I cannot do my workouts. I can swim or ride a stationary bike, but I really hate those things! I hope my doc is being overly cautious and the PT will give me a better idea of what I can or can't do. Until I meet with her or him, I'm not ready to throw in the towel! Can I stay in the game if I'm just doing diet and PT?

That sucks! Good luck with all that!

Good motivation quotes! My new motivation is that I think I may go to my 25th high school reunion in October in Ohio. I technically didn't graduate from there as I moved in my junior year, but would be able to go. I have been back there since 1982. *Cue Pretenders song*

I've been missing out on this thread for a while, but great motivational quotes! I'm loving the program I'm on, and I'm learning how to eat on maintenance and finding out it's not so scary as it seems! I've gained about a pound, but I was expecting to gain 2 or 3 (water, food weight, etc) going from a deficit to maintenance, so I'm happy. I feel like I'm getting stronger, but it's probably too early to tell for sure! I AM excited about this month--more excited than ever, b/c it's the first time since my teen years that I'm not actually trying to lose weight! (Not that I've arrived, though, for sure...I'm just working on strength before I go back to fat loss.)

Glad it's not just me! I can NOT wait to see the PT on Thursday. I may do some treadmill walking in the meantime. How can walking be bad? I have to do it everyday!

I am super excited. I just ordered fractional plates from Iron Woody.

Iron Woody Fitness Olympic, Standard and Metric Fractional Weight Plates

For anyone who doesn't know, they are plates in 1/4 lb increments (or you can get them in kilos). I need them for exercises like the shoulder press where a 5 lb increase is too much for me. They are 25% off until Jan 27th.

Those are cool! Much cheaper than Plate Mates.

Thanks for posting this. I've been wanting to get some. I've been shopping around for the best price on platemates but forgot about Iron Woody's stuff. I like these better and the price is great now.

On another note I really think it's time to send my elliptical to the dump. It's very old (I think around 10 years) and I think a bearing is going so not worth getting fixed. Good news is hubby has said I can get a new one so I think I'll be ordering one from Nordic track. It'll be kind of weird though using a new one as each model has a slightly different path and takes some getting used to. I know which model feels the most comfortable to me (I like the Audiostrider 990 model) and it's on sale this weekend so I think I'm going to go for it. It feels kind of weird to be spending $900 with the economy the way it is. But since we're set up really well home gym wise it is more economical than a gym membership in the long run and will be used more.

it's been a busy week with classes starting, but i am doing great! the scale continues to move down and i'm lifting again which i really missed. downside is i need to rethink nutrition as i am just not getting enough calories to support this new frenzied life of a campus co-ed. i'm with anne on this, i think i can come up with something on my own that will fit the bill - just haven't got the time or brain power to try to follow something regimented like opt right now. a real plus is that i don't have any time to go off program - i can only eat what i carry, so as long as i'm making good choices on the front end, i should be okay!!

and thanks for the motivational quotes - will have to plaster them on my notebook!

Thanks from me too, Chloe! I will need to get these too since I am in the same boat with the shoulder press!

Oh, and on the motivational quotes, I love all the quotes so far and I am a Nike quote junkie too!

Also, I love our very own Mahler in the Training Discussion section.

hey guys, on the ironwoody, can those go on dumbells too or just barbell? I need something that goes on dumbells--going up in 5lb increments on db is just too much at times.

Wendy, if you have adjustable dumbbells, I don't see why not. The fractional plates can be bought for either standard 1" or olympic 2" size bars. However, if you have fixed dumbbells these won't work like the magnetic PlateMates. HTH.

I always wondered why my Select-Tech dumbbells went up in 2.5 increments. D'oh! And yes, it does make a huge difference!

I'm doing fine, but would do better if I stop getting lazy about tracking. I just hate doing it. Back on track today.

I was up all night thanks to my lovely allergies. Cedar pollen is exclusive to south central Texas and there isn't much that can really make one feel better. I'd rather have the flu because at least I know it will be gone in a few days. I've got probably another 3 weeks of this crap. Why do I live in this state again???

Hi everyone!
Good quotes rolling around here!
We took the family skiing this weekend in Northern Michigan and it was tons of fun! I managed to plan my meals so did well on that front, but totally pigged out when DH and I went out Sunday night. The skiing and shivering to stay warm must've been good for the calorie burn because the scale looked a little better today.
I finished NROL4W Stage 5 last week and I think I'm going to jump to Stage 7, gotta figure that out tonight. All in all, I'm feeling very positive about this month, but not sure the scale or measurements will reflect it at month's end.
Have a good one!

Do you like the Select-Tech? I've been going back and forth trying to decide between those and the PowerBlocks that adjust in 2.5 increments. They're about the same price.

I have a set of PowerBlocks, which I like a lot. Just watch the increments as I thought they always went up in 2.5 increments, but they don't. The ones I have go:

5-lb (empty), 7.5-lbs (1 insert), 10-lbs (2 inserts)
15-lb (empty), etc.

So it does jump from 10 to 15 pounds. It's not a huge deal as I have a pair of 2-lb wrist weights, so I go 10-lb, 12-lb, 15-lb.
