Alrighty...workout done! Drinking water--check!

It's amazing what taking a week off and eating crap does to your stamina. Just from my warm-up alone, I was sweating bullets (of course, the humidity is really high today, but not warm enough for my a/c to kick on. Blech). I did jumping pull-ups and really concentrated on negatives coming down.

Today's workout:

30-25-20-15-10-5
35# kb swings
sit-ups

And I feel it, but it feels goooood!

Glad you got a workout in - sounds good, even if you thought you were deconditioned... I KNOW you weren't - it probably was just the humidity! (no sympathy from here though - it's cold!)

I agree with Bytsi on no sympathy for the humidity, LOL. But, I really wanted to say I thought it was a very impressive workout. Are you liking Leigh's relaunch materials?

I FINALLY figured out the multi-quote thing. I'm slow sometimes...

Believe me! I felt it this morning!

LOL--Don't worry! I'll be complaining about the humidity daily from May until November! The upside is, it's great for your skin! You'd think after living here for over 10 years, I'd be used to it by now! We just had a front come through this a.m., so the humidity is gone for now.

I love, Love, LOVE the new material! She did and awesome job with the revamp. My highlighter was busy last night.

I didn't track my food yesterday and a leftover small piece of cheesecake called my name, but for the most part it wasn't bad. I did really well with drinking my water so gold star for me. Then my favorite aunt showed up unexpectedly this morning. I usually can tell a few days ahead of time, but not this month.

So until the challenge starts, I've decided to track calories only. That way it will give me a chance to plan my macros and read up on some more things.

Today's workout sucked. In fact, the last time I did it, I wrote in my notes on how much it sucked. As many rounds in 20 minutes of:

15 push ups
12 dips
9 push press (17.5 db/ea)

I managed 10 rounds and it. was. not. fun. I beat my last time doing this by 4 rounds, BUT I was using a barbell and heavier weights, so that made a difference.

Then I did 3 sets of 10 kb front squats. I'm really digging the kettlebells. I may have to get some lighter ones so I can do different exercises. 35# is fine for swings and squats, but too heavy for some of the other stuff.

Oh, man. Yesterday, my triceps were SCREAMING! I didn't workout at all yesterday.

So after picking at some stupid banana bread mini loaf (which I threw the rest down the disposal) all day, I decided I'm starting today. I got on the scale and just about died. Of course, since my favorite aunt is in town and I've been getting my drink on with water the past few days, I suspect some of it is water weight. Still, it was a shock.

I own Calorie King for PC (I also own FitDay, but like CK so much more) so it is now sitting open in my task bar. I figured my calories to be 1450 with zone macros of 40-30-30. If I go up any higher in Protein, I have a hard time meeting that goal. So, I will stick to this for now and adjust accordingly if needed.

I punished myself today:

10 rounds of:

10 sumo deadlift high pull with 35# KB
5 burpees

If I've said it once, I've said it a gazillion times. BURPEES SUCK!

And following this post will be my goals for 2009

WARNING: This will be long and boring and all over the place!

I've never been one to write in a journal. I've tried before, but never kept at it. Mainly because I would read what I wrote and it just sounded dumb or because I got over what I was pissed off about (usually directed towards my husband ). Which is why I never bothered to write down goals for myself. I just found it silly to do so.

Well, not doing so really has worked well for me *sarcasm*

Same goes with writing in a food journal. Every single time I've lost weight, it's because I kept a food journal. This was usually because I belonged to WW at the time. However, if not paying for it for some reason, I stop journalling. I hate, Hate, HATE counting calories. I get really bored with it. I don't want to do it, but I have to. As much as I hate it, it's the only thing that's worked for me. I don't know why I get lazy and stop.

For the past 10 years, I've played the gain and lose the same, 5,10 or 15 pounds game. It's really boring, yet I insist on playing along. I know why I eat. I eat because I'm bored. I eat when I'm stressed. I've been working from home since 1992. If I wanted something to eat? No problem. It's right at my fingertips! I very rarely eat fast food, I've never devoured a whole bag of cookies, chips or whatever in one sitting (however, if chocolate is nearby, it will be gone really quickly!), I don't eat really late at night. But I pick. I pick all day long. I am on the computer a lot, be it work or surfing. However, I've always, always, exercised.

I was supposed to be fabulous by 40, then 41, then 42. Well, I'm now 43, dammit! What I like about this place is there are other women around my age as well as younger or older and we're all striving to be the best we can be. I like reading the different goals and workouts.

Okay, so now that I've rambled on long enough, these are my goals. Y'all are my witnesses, because this is a first for me!!

1. I'm not even sure what weight I want to end up at. At my best, I was 125# and a weight that I maintained for 10 years (including two pregnancies during that time). I'd like to see that number, but it may be 5-10# heavier. We'll just have to see how I feel at that time.

2. Drink my water and stay consistent with the food journal. D-uh. Really, this is a no brainer and should it really be this difficult?

3. Taste my food. I tend to wolf things down and not even remember how it tasted. And then go back for more. I need to take my time eating. Again, another no brainer, but something I tend to make more difficult than it needs to be.

4. Get my NEAT on. Since I am home most of the day, it's very easy to plop in front of the computer. My house may become a little NEATer (ha! I'm so witty!) now.

5. Journal, journal, journal. It's worth repeating.

6. Not sabotaging my success. I do this a lot! I tell myself it's okay to start eating again after I lose. Hence, the same 5 pound gain/loss

6.5 I'm fine with fitness. I know Crossfit isn't that popular around here, but it's something I enjoy doing and have been consistent with doing for almost a year. It's something that works for me.

7. I'm hoping to eek out a real pull-up sometime this year!

8. Did I mention journalling?

9. And drinking water?

10. I want to be one of Leigh's success stories!

Sorry this is long and rambling, but I feel really good right now after having written this!

And now, I need to go do some NEAT and take down the Christmas tree. It's drying out and all my ornaments are dropping off...not to mention needles everywhere!

I look forward to reading everyone else's goals and my even have to steal a few for myself. Good luck to everyone!

Steel--looks like you have some very well thought-out goals. They are actually do-able and sustainable, but will still take a lot of work and commitment. I can really identify with #6--that may end up being one of mine as well. Good luck to you and Happy New Year!

Definitely on the commitment part. Ask me occasionally how I'm doing on my goals, OK?

When I start losing, I won't have to buy clothes for a while as I have so many that I bought because they would fit IF I lost 5-10 pounds.

Back in the day, I could wear a Gap size 4 Reverse Fit jean (Probably a size 0 in today's vanity sizing). I kept those pants in my closet for so long because one day I would fit in them again. Then I realized they were those God awful mom type jeans and to Goodwill they went. I know they went to a good cause and all, but even the less fortunate shouldn't have to wear Mom jeans!

Your goals look great. Most days I would love to work from home, but know myself better and it would be a challenge to stay out of the kitchen. I can relate to the picking - that is so me! Not devouring stuff but going back for little bites.

I LOLed at your Mom jeans. I worked at the Gap in high school and had a flashback when I read reverse jean. They are pretty mom like

I held on to some jeans from high school, too. Its crazy to see how the sizing has changed in some brands, but gone down in others. I am embarrassed to admit I own a pair of pants from Hollister...OMG...that I still wear from about 5 years ago and there is no way on earth I could fit into any of their pants now.

The Horror!

I'm trying to decide which was worse. Acid wash hell or mom jeans!

I was just going to go look for that clip to post! ROTFL!!! Love that "commercial" - especially the applique sweaters at the end!

Your goals look good - writing them out helps a lot.

Great job on writing out your goals. I share some of your same struggles - getting it written down, sabotaging myself after I lose, up and down those 5-10 lbs over and over, journaling. We are the same age and have similar goals. We can do it! 2009 will be our year!!!

LOL at the Mom jeans. I think I had one of those vests!

Thanks, all! I'm going to try my hardest to stick to them.

I did take my pictures yesterday. Mighty scary. I still need to upload them, but need to do that in privacy as I certainly don't want to traumatize my kids for life with pictures of their mother in a sports bra and bikini bottom

It looks like I've gone incognito since my avi disappeared.

I've been on track with workouts, water, and tracking. Let the trend continue...

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! If 2008 was shitty, may 2009 be great. If 2008 was great, May 2009 continue to be so.

Just popping by to spread some good wishes for the New Year. May the new year bring with it some of what you wish for.

You're not the only person to lose their AVI this week. I suspect it has something to do with moving over to the new server. I'd just try uploading it again.

Ah, that makes sense about the avi. Thanks.

Love the story about the Gap jeans. I had those too in my closet waiting until I could fit into them, and then when I could I so did not want to wear them! So off to Goodwill.

I did want to comment on one thing though - I know you love crossfit - but make sure that it doesn't cause you to be crazy hungry. One thing Leigh talks about is that some intense exercise will cause you to become really hungry which then will cause you to overeat and miss your target calorie wise. So you may be one of those that can handle that level of intensity in a deficit, but you should just watch and observe and see if it ends up sabatosing your weight lose goals. Does that make sense?

anyways good luck!

You bring up a good point and it makes absolute sense. When I first started it, we did heavy metcons all the time, and yes, I was always hungry and started to burn out on it. My partner and I started following a local affiliate's workouts because he broke it up and threw in more strength training than the main site does, but we still did mostly metcons. The past few months, we focused on strength twice a week (with some light cardio afterwards) and a heavy metcon or running twice a week. We were really starting to get away from strength training and I didn't like that.

Anyway, We both seem to be on the same page with this, but haven't been able to get too strict with it with the holidays getting in the way, etc.

Thanks for the insight!

Thanks! I pretty sure I was able to do the double jumprope thing as a kid. Now, I'd probably get tangled up in it and strangle myself or something!

Very nice goals! Good job on hitting your macros, too--sometimes that's much harder to do.

Tell me about it. I used to just aim for more than a certain level of protein, but trying to hit a balance is infinitely harder. Great job!

Weeeeeelllll...that first day I hit it. I've come close on the other days as you will see below. I have the PC version of Calorie King, so by putting in my macros, it figures out how many grams I need to eat to hit them.

Friday--Was under my calories as I ate around 1364 31% Fat, 42% Carbs, 27% Protein. Walked with my friend that day.

Saturday--Forgot to record my dinner No workout

Today--1440 Calories, 38% Fat, 36% Carbs, 26% Protein. No workout as I've been closing out the year for my husband's practice. Still need to do my day job's closing. Too drained to do any exercise right now.

My partner gets back in town tomorrow night, so I'm looking forward to getting back into our routine again.

Just wanted to wish you luck in the challenge. Good job on your food so far. Are you drinking your water???

I did a Tabata style workout tonight and thought of you. I'm not sure of how much difference there is between CF and Tabata but both kick my butt!

For the most part, I have been drinking. A little lax today as the weather turned cold again.

There are quite a few Tabata CF workouts which we don't really do because of timing it. I saw the gadget you posted in Ginger's log. I may have to get that. There are also some interval apps for the iPhone, but I haven't really looked at them closely

Thanks! I really want to get to everyone's blogs, but I may be here all week trying to do so!

Calories: 1466
Fat: 35%
Carbs: 36%
Protein: 29%

I jinxed myself by hitting them the first day. But since they're close, I'm satisfied with that.

No workout today except for stretching. I'm looking forward to getting back in the gym tomorrow!

I did really well with my water intake today. If you own Proctor & Gamble stock and it went up today, you have me to thank. God knows I used enough Charmin today.

Also, I think the powers that be are trying to tell me something. I've gotten more emails for Discovery's The National Body Challenge as well as my come back to Weight Watchers solicitations.

Just stopping by to say hi! Looks like you are on the right track already

I like tabata style workouts, too. Watching the time and having a set # of work sets agrees with me. Kind of like counting reps of lifts!
