Careful with the shoulder--I messed mine up going a bit too heavy on the incline db press during NROL HTI and it hasn't been the same since. A slight impingement.
I hope you are selected for the training program. That would so cool. I missed that one. I haven't been to the PN board in a while. Did you upgrade to PN3?

I cannot adequately describe how FIRED UP I am right now!!! I got selected for the Precision Nutrition Informal Exercise Study!!! WooooHoooo!!! I am so amazed that they picked me and here is the even better part, I get to use the TRX suspension system in the study! Since I will have to keep you all informed of this experience, this will get me back on track with logging too. I don't have all the details but I know we start on 2/9/09, I have the first 2 weeks of workouts, and we have to do a pre-test similar to what Celeste did for Maximum Strength. I know the PN research team will be guiding this effort. Again, I am just stunned at how things have changed so much for me fitness-wise over the last 12 months. And you all deserve a lot of credit for helping me get here (and I know I have a LONG way to go! )
Thanks, Kathy, on the shoulder caution. It is back to normal now but it is scary how fast those tweaks happen (I have had 2 in the last 9 months) and I remember you having trouble. Also, I did upgrade to PN3. I admit I was a little miffed that the upgrade initially cost so much, especially since I bought PN2 in spring 2008 so I hadn't had it that long. But when they offered the "lite" upgrade option, something made me go ahead and upgrade....I just got it on Thursday and am still reading. I am not often on the PN forums since this one feels more comfortable and seems more active but I like having access to their resources. And I really like the more frequent articles they are publishing these days (especially the athlete profiles).

Thanks, Celeste! I hope my progress follows the success you have had. You are so strong and are so muscular looking!!!
All, I will update my Built For Show logs tomorrow night. I am really liking that program and will continue it up until I start the PN exercise program.
Congrats, Rebecca! I didn't say anything in my log, but I also applied for the study. I guess now I know that I didn't get picked! But, I am thrilled for you!
Congrats, Rebecca on getting picked! That is awesome! I'll be watching your log very closely...this ought to be fun. I don't know how I missed that one.
Let me know if it is worth upgrading to PN. Now that my income has dropped, temporarily I hope, I am having to be that much more selective about where my money goes.

Hey Jane....I don't know that you can rule out your participation quite yet. They have 2 other groups of 20 each (the non-suspension training groups) and I am speculating they had to alert the suspension training group had to get early notice so ahead of the 1/29 notification day as to order and receive the TRX equipment. Since you haven't heard your status, there is still a chance since so I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Thanks, Kathy & Chloe! I will work to be good at logging the experience for everyone, including myself.
Kathy, I'll let you know on the PN upgrade. So far it is very similar to PN2 but there is a maintenance section that is new that I am interested in reading.
Hey there everyone! Quick update on me....I am STUCK in this ice storm that hammered Northwest Arkansas. Most people have been without power in their homes (including me! still out.....generator can't come fast enough!) since Tuesday. So, no workouts to report and I will be sketchy online. The one exception is that I WILL post my Month 1 challenge stuff this weekend. Praying for power and internet access!
We always live with that possibility, but so far this winter the worst we did was lose power for a brief time one afternoon when a tree came down (after the snow). Hope you have some kind of power by now, even if it is just a generator.
Oh, stay warm Rebecca! I hope that generator makes it over your way quickly.

Thanks all for checking in. Thank God we bought the generator and got it fired up on Thursday as here it is Saturday night and we still do not have real power back on (it's been out since Tuesday afternoon so we are 4 days and counting). So we have been warm and can run a few appliance like our fridge and freezer. We also do not have cable on for TV or internet so my husband and I stopped by his office to get some personal stuff done online. I primarily wanted to post my Month 1 stats but they will be super slim since I don't have my fancy spreadsheet available to calculate fat %, etc. I can say with confidence that next month's stats will be easier to post as our power should be back by then!!!
Month 1 Update for Jan-Jul 2009 Women's Challenge. My stats are very slim this time since, due to severe ice storms this week in Northwest Arkansas, I am out of power and can't use my home PC with my fancy body fat calc spreadsheet. I was also in a hurry since I had to get busy and go clean up my yard (lots of NEAT today!).
Goals:
Lower my body fat to about 15-17%, whatever ends up looking good. Hard to say exactly until I get there. Goal is to look lean and athletic, not just thin. PROGRESS UPDATE 1/31/09 - I didn't measure body fat this time due to weather related issues. Will provide in my personal log as soon as I can (hopefully by 2/8/09) and will definitely provide this info in the Month 2 stats.
Get stronger in 2009. I would like to be using the 45lbs plates on my oly bar on a regular basis. I would like to squat my body weight. I would like to be able to perform chin-ups in a workout (say 4 sets of 6) without using a jump stretch band for assistance. PROGRESS UPDATE 1/31/09 - Since I am focusing on getting stronger, I feel like I am having success here. My deadlift is in the 120s and I am now able to squat close to 90 lbs. My chin-ups have improved to where I can do 2 sets of 4 unassisted.
Work with a coach to improve my lifting technique and learn the oly lifts. PROGRESS UPDATE 1/31/09 - Haven't done anything on this front for a number of reasons. Since I am starting the Informal Exercise Experiment with Precision Nutrition on 2/9/09, I definitely can't work on oly lifting until the 8 week experiment is completed as PN wants you to perform only the prescribed exercise regimen.
Plan:
Complete Roussell & Cosgrove's Warp Speed Fat Loss by 1/31/09 (this is my second round) PROGRESS UPDATE 1/31/09 - What a bust! I got sick on the very first day of WSFL on 1/5/09 and stayed sick and weak for a whole week. I switched to Nate Green's Built For Show (Strength focused Winter program) and have been very happy.
Get back on a strength focused program (like Coach Dos' Power Training) in February PROGRESS UPDATE 1/31/09 - Started Nate Green's Built For Show (Strength focused Winter program) and love it because I am getting stronger with each outing and each workout takes about 30 minutes.
Get serious about finding a coach PROGRESS UPDATE 1/31/09 - Haven't done anything on this front yet.
Stats:

Just for fun, this is what my yard looked like after the ice storm came through....
My in-laws came over today and helped me, my husband, and 2 kids attack the mess and we made a lot of progress. Our front yard is now clean and we are almost done with cleaning up the back yard. We have a TON of work ahead of us getting this totally cleaned up and all the damage to the yard and fence repaired but we are grateful to have little damage to the house itself and have family around to help!
WOW...that does NOT look like fun. So glad you didn't have anyone hurt, and your house wasn't damaged (much). Generators are great, aren't they?! Good luck getting it all cleaned up--sounds like your attitude is positive, and you've got some good help.
I was wondering how you fared through the storm. We're about an hour south of Fort Smith so we missed the major damage, just getting stranded at home for a couple of days. Arkansas (and Kentucky) got nailed pretty badly!
I guess as bad as my snow is, we didn't get an ice storm. Although today we have lots of ice from thaw/freeze effects. Glad that you're okay, and sorry that you have so much clean-up today... especially in the cold!
Hello Everyone! I am FINALLY back on the grid!!! We were without power for 10 days and got it back on 2 days ago (Friday). Having a generator eased the pain somewhat but I was getting increasingly agitated as time passed and no sign of the electric company. My husband and co-workers are thrilled that the power company finally slayed the beast that I was becoming!

Oh yeah, nice update also!
Celeste , as I am sure you know since you are near family, having family close by makes all the difference in the world when dealing with whatever issues. My in-laws have worked in our yard for 3 days and their work has made a huge difference. Thank goodness for good family ties!

We're just thankful our house is OK since even though NW Arkansas was nailed, as Diane said, Kentucky got hammered even worse!

Wow! I didn't realize you are so close! Are you in Waldron? You are so close by I need to meet you in person sometime. I guess it was our turn to get the ice since you all got it pretty bad a few years ago.

It is now warmed up (60 degrees F) so our cold can't touch yours....we're just babies compared to what you all get!

Thanks, Jane! I am really looking forward to the process and the forced motivation. Since I signed up for the dang thing, now I have to do it!!!
I actually started today since there is some flexibility allowed on workout days and I have always done better when I start my workout week on Sundays. Not sure why I am that way but I always do it!
February 8, 2008 (Sunday)
Precision Nutrition Informal Exercise Experiment
Workout Strength A of Phase 1 (ie weeks 1-4)
Workout 1 of 32
Deadlift 3 sets of 6x115
I was disappointed with how weak I felt on this lift. I think being off for the last week and a half may have something to do with it.
Barbell Forward Lunge
3 sets of 6x60
Barbell Bent Over Row 3 sets of 4x75
Incline Dumbbell Bench Press
3 sets of 6x30
Bent Dumbbell Row 3 sets of 6x20
Swiss Ball Crunch
3 sets of 10
Incline Dumbbell Curl
8x15
8x15
7x15
These were hard for me (supposed to do 10)
The TRX suspension training is tomorrow and I think it will be hard (awkward since you have to balance while doing the exercise) but in a good way. I am looking forward to it!

I'm about 45 minutes to an hour west of there, over the OK border. We're in the hills between Wister Lake and Heavener if you know where that is -- chances are not. LOL
February 9, 2008 (Monday)
Precision Nutrition Informal Exercise Experiment
TRX Metabolic Workout A of Phase 1a* (ie weeks 1-2)
Workout 2 of 32 * TRX workouts in 2 week phases versus 4 week phases
Single Leg Squat (Assisted) 3 sets 30 seconds each side
The assist from the TRX straps helped me get good form but my quads were burning!
Atomic Pushup
3 sets of 30 seconds
These are a lot like a prone jackknife pushup combo but I thought they were harder because the feet are lower and the legs can sway side to side (not supposed to) during the motion
Low Row 3 sets of 30 seconds
These are like an angled inverted row (a.k.a. reverse pushup)
Balance Lunge
3 sets of 30 seconds
These are simply a reverse lunge but the rear foot gets tucked behind the front leg rather than touching the ground
Side Plank
3 sets of 30 seconds
Just like a normal side plank but with the feet suspended in the TRX foot straps. Very tough since there is a tendency to sway
This workout was hard and yet easy at the same time (I know that doesn't make ANY sense! ). It was hard because the 30 seconds seems to last forever and whatever muscles you are working at the time are burning and want to quit at times. Easy because I was afraid the TRX would be hard to learn and it wasn't. I liked using the system and look forward to the next TRX workout.
Your DL's will bounce right back up. I can't wait to hear about the TRX training. It looks really hard.
I sure hope so....I was pretty bummed about it but I took off almost 2 weeks during our storm/power issues and ate pretty bad at the same time. I guess it is motivation to work harder to catch back up!
I was afraid the TRX would be really difficult from a form perspective and this workout eased my fears. It was demanding so I am interested to see if I am sore in new places. I am looking forward to the next TRX workout (which will be Friday since I have to travel on business Tuesday & Wednesday, pushing my workouts a day). Some of the exercises in the manual look really hard! Thank goodness they aren't prescribed yet!
