I am so old that I had a 75 year old man in an electric shopping cart hitting on me at Sam's yesterday It's been happening more and more too, scary. But thank you, you are sweet!
Keep up the good work this week. You are almost there!
LOL Christine! I always get hit on by the senior men at the gym... I think they hit a certain age and feel like they have a license to misbehave because who would yell at (or slap) a sweet "harmless" old man...
....... Or else I'm just really old...
BTW Rebecca - can't wait to see your pics - your workouts look great!
In your case 40 is the new 20. And nobody who is younger than me is allowed to call themself old. My rule no matter how old we get. Remember, the older we get, the older old is.

So true, the older ladies like my husband too!

Rebecca, it looks like you are making great progress with WSFL! Your thoughts on the BCAA drink are very interesting. I've always wondered if I should be taking any supplements (well, other than protein powder). I'll be anxious to hear what else you say about it as you continue taking it.
Hi Chloe! Thanks for stopping by. I swear by the BCAA drink now because of the energy I have felt since I started drinking it. I am thinking about doing another round of WSFL in January and will drink Xtend from day one. Now, my post for day 24 will show my weight is up and the only 2 things to change on this last week are the BCAA and my time of month is about to arrive. I am curious if either of those have anything to do with the weight gain....I would suspect the TOM first since I lost after a few days of BCAA but who knows? Plus the BCAA -> energy thing could be all mental but it sure is a big difference in my mind.

Hi ceebee! There must be something about old men going on. I took my daughter (9 yo) to Wal-Mart on Sunday and the greeter was such a huge flirt. Definitely scary! But I also live in a college town and frequently drive through campus so it is fun when I can fake out one of the young guys to take a long look ......always an ego boost!!!
Thanks for coming by for the encouragement. You are right.....4 more days!!!

I think you are right......they think, "what the hell?"
Thanks for the kind words which I need since I have a little bump on the scale....yikes!

This is so true! I don't feel old and yet I just had my 20th high school reunion. With our nutrition and fitness efforts, it will certainly be a LONG time before we look or feel old.
Day 24 of 28 Warp Speed Fat Loss, Tuesday October 21, 2008
As Christine said above, I am almost there! Yeah!!! 4 more days and I am already talking about doing this again in January. And speaking of January, yeah to Jane for bringing up a January challenge. I am definitely in!
Today was weights. Incline db bench press, 3 point db rows both 3x8. Then prone jacknife pushup combo, reverse lunge with db offset, db squat press, assisted chinups. The thing I love about the WSFL weight protocol is the low reps, although I am not able on this program to use the low reps to increase my weights. Someone else might be able to increase weight but I haven't so far. And then the not-so-wonderful 2 min work period intervals on the treadmill. I run slower to make the 2 min but I still don't like it.
Still drinking about 4 servings of BCAA a day and I feel like it has helped my energy and mental attitude. I would love to know if it is really doing something and why it works. Thank goodness it tastes pretty good.
Decided to start NROL Fat Loss I on Sunday. Not looking forward to the 15 reps so I might waffle and do NROL Hypertrophy for something different. One day, I want to follow Eric Cressey's Maximum Strength. I really like reading his work. Will ease off the running to make sure I don't have some sort of after shock on the scale from transitioning off WSFL.
Speaking of the scale, I am NOT a happy camper with the scale today. Up 1.4 lbs since Sunday!!! Not cool at all. Who knows if I really gained back fat or if it is the BCAA drink (which I read are supposed to enhance weight loss not hinder it) or if it is because I am about to start my period? Arrggghhh!!! We'll see where I am after WSFL and my period but I was really hoping to get below 111 for my last weight in.
Day 25 of 28 Warp Speed Fat Loss, Wednesday October 22, 2008
Posting early today since I have to shuttle kids around tonight and will likely be away from the computer (again!).
Today was pure cardio. 1 min work period HIIT followed by 20 minutes of SS. Again, the little battles with wanting to cut the workout short but I keep telling myself to finish strong so got it all in. Thank goodness for iPods and music videos! Speaking of that, has anyone seen that new Britney Spears "Womanizer" video? She leaves nothing to the imagination so you can tell she has her hot bod back.
The scale was nicer to me today. I know better than to get freaked out about one day's scale reading but when you are doing cardio 6 days a week, weights 3 days a week and eating such low calories it is VERY discouraging to see any gain of significance. Especially when the total loss over 4 weeks is not going to amount to more than 4 pounds (5 at the very most).
I would blame TOM and not the Xtend. I am also a fan of it (Xtend, not TOM ) and I have never felt like it hindered weight loss. I am completely impressed that you have stuck with this WSFL. Nice job!

Rebecca, I bet you've been having water balance issues all along and that's why your loss on the scale hasn't been as high as you expected. Have you tried upping your water up to a gallon per day? I wouldn't think the Xtend would cause you to gain fat either.
You must have been at the gym really early today, good job!

Thanks for stopping by, Ginger. I have been a fan of yours for awhile, albeit from a lurker perspective (sorry, I don't mean that as creepy as it sounds). The bolded part made me laugh out loud and smile!!! I wasn't really thinking Xtend is the problem either but felt I had to list out all the variables in the mix.....I think Christine may be on to something with the water balance issues (read below). Thanks for the kudos on sticking with WSFL. The whole experience has bolstered my mental toughness and my beliefs in what I can accomplish with fitness and nutrition.

Christine, I think you may have identified something here with the water situation and its impact with the scale. I have not been faithful with 1) keeping the water level at a gallon or 2) being consistent with water/fluid intake. I am thinking that since I plan to ease off WSFL rather than "jump" off that I ought to have some time left to play with the water and see what happens. Good thought!
I looked at the time of my last post and it said 4:30am! I work out early but not quite THAT early . On weekdays, I do get up around 4:20am Central and wrap up around 5:20-5:30am Central. This is out of necessity to make training a priority and not let the "noise" of life provide me with excuses not to workout. Believe me, I am a BABY about sleep so this isn't about me being an early bird!!!
Day 26 of 28 Warp Speed Fat Loss, Thursday October 23, 2008
Today was the last weight workout in WSFL. Deadlifts, RDLs, Swiss ball crunches, step ups, dumbbell swings. Not my best effort but it counts as a tick mark on the overall tally sheet.
I haven't felt as mentally or physically dead this week as compared to last week (I was a total zombie) and I credit the BCAA drink. Drinking about 4 a day but not as much plain water. I think Christine is on to something with water balance/imbalance affecting the scale. I will start keeping a fluid log and see if I get things on the scale making sense. It really does seem silly to whine about a couple of pounds either way but positive movement is so huge in my mental attitude.
Weight 110.8 lbs (finally broke the 111.0 barrier!)
Rebecca, you're doing so well on this program! Great consistency! I've been struggling with what I believe is a water balance problem this week, too, so you're not alone.
Day 27 of 28 Warp Speed Fat Loss, Friday October 24, 2008
Last day of pure cardio but I plan to keep doing 3 days of WSFL style cardio (intervals then steady state) as I transition off. Energy levels and mental attitude good (of course! I am at the end!). But kidding aside, I am scared of being off the WSFL structure. Even though it has been only 4 weeks (listen to me now that I am on this side of it!), the eating and exercise is now somewhat of a habit so I really want to continue the good parts (weighing portions, good food choices, sticking to my food plan) while reducing the extreme parts (low calories, low/no carbs, tons of exercise). I will definitely do this program again.
The weight is back up but I am now almost cetain it is water balance issues and/or GI tract yuckiness. The reason I am so sure is that my jeans that were too snug this past winter/spring, are now feeling loser than I ever remember. And that yucky bulge on the outer edge of the thighs right below the hips that was showing up when I sit down in these jeans is now gone (weird description but I think you know what I am talking about! ). No muffin top either.
Tomorrow is stats & pics day since it is the last day. However, my Razorbacks play Ole Miss tomorrow and the whole day is crazy so I probably won't post until Sunday. Even though I didn't lose a ton of weight, I am looking forward to the real judgement day.
Rebecca, you're doing so well on this program! Great consistency! I've been struggling with what I believe is a water balance problem this week, too, so you're not alone.
Karen, thanks so much for stopping by. I need to pop over to your log and see how you are doing with Leigh's 30 day challenge. I used to be so good with water byt once I became a huge coffee/caffeine addict about 5 years ago, I have been very bad with keeping even water intake. Best wishes on your challenge and water balance correction!

Rebecca, congrats on finishing WSFL...you really did a great job!!!
I did make it! Thank you so much for supporting me along the way. This program taught me a lot that I can carry forward into normal life so it was worth doing.
Day 28 of 28 Warp Speed Fat Loss, Saturday October 25, 2008
Even though this is actually Sunday and my first day off WSFL, I thought I needed to post Day 28 for posterity.
Yesterday was no exercise and no carbs.

9/28/08 (Left), 10/25/08 (Right):
While I am pretty certain that neither Mike Roussell nor Alwyn Cosgrove will be falling all over themselves to sign me as the WSFL poster girl, I did see and feel progress toward my fat loss goals. I lost 4 pounds over 4 weeks and lost girth. Not sure why my girth measurements above on the waist & hips don't validate this.....my clothes are definitely looser, especially in the thigh and butt areas. The 4 pounds is a big deal to me since I was losing at a much slower rate previous to WSFL and I am 5 feet tall so a smaller change either way is more noticeable. I would like to lose a couple more pounds of fat and will probably do another round of WSFL in January but right now I am not dissatisfied.
Lessons learned on WSFL:
Drink BCAAs! This ended up saving me starting in Week 3. I was turning into a low energy zombie and it was affecting me mentally (slower thinking). While drinking BCAAs, I was stronger all around and able to resist food much easier. Scivation Xtend is a good tasting BCAA drink.
You MUST measure all foods (weighing in grams is best). I did this from Day 1 and learned a lot about accurate portion sizes. I learned that before I started measuring my food, I was consistently underestimating the volume of food I was serving myself. I never had the deficits I thought I had (or maybe even had a surplus).
Don't fear the no-carb day. I went into WSFL thinking the no-carb days (7, 14, 21, and 28) would be horrible but they were the best from a satiety perspective.
Also, don't fear low calories and or low carb. I LOVE to eat and LOVE to cook. I am one of those snackers while cooking too. The low calorie meal plans helped me learn discipline in the kitchen.
Maintain water intake. I was not good at this at all.
I learned mental and physical discipline above what I thought I already had.
All in all, I would recommend this program to someone else who was had less than 20 lbs to lose and was ready to make the round the clock committment for 28 days. I wasn't 100% compliant but I was above 95% throughout. The WSFL materials provides are good but are blemished by the high number of grammar errors, spelling errors, and typos. Also, very few of the embedded links in the PDF worked (instead of showing the recommended supplement, the link took me to the WSFL sales page). I was very glad I already had Roussell's Naked Nutrition Guide to cross check portion/food substitutions. I think Roussell and Cosgrove could have cut some of the pictures in the text to condense the size of the e-book (I don't need to see pictures of buff bodies or healthy food choices to be motivated on a program like this). I also wish there was a real meal template and plan for the 105-110 pound range.
Even with all that, good program and it helped me out!
Rebecca, congratulations on finishing and the great results. It's been fun watching your journey. Thanks for giving a review of the whole program, too.
SUPER job, Rebecca!!! Since you did so well with this 30 days, I encourage you to challenge yourself with more goals to keep you motivated, as it's clear you are able to focus and accomplish what you set out to do. KEEP IT UP!!
I see changes, although, you look great in both. I'll admit I sometimes don't see what people want to lose. Is it possible that perhaps a bulk with a loss after might give you more of the look you're going for? Just a thought. Just being almost perfectly compliant is a victory itself.
GREAT job, Rebecca! You've done great sticking to the program. I see major changes in all your pics. I love how you gave your lessons learned and pros/cons of the program. It may help others decide if this program is for them. You've inspired me to look for a 30 day challenge for myself. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations, Rebecca! You made it and if you're bf% are close, you lost over 5lbs. of fat and put on a little muscle. BTW, if skinfolds are done properly it really wouldn't make much difference how hard your husband pinched because the caliper should be measuring the center of the fold...about halfway to where your husband is actually pinching. After you said that, I was testing this out on myself and pinching harder doesn't change the measured area unless the measurment is taken very close to the fingers.
Rebecca, congratulations on finishing and the great results. It's been fun watching your journey. Thanks for giving a review of the whole program, too.
Best wishes in your 30 day challenge too. I know you are committed so you will do well. I put the review in because I found it so helpful to read Jane's, Kathy's, and MAXX's logs of their time on WSFL and thought it might help someone else who is considering using the program. Sort of hoping to continue the "pay it forward" that I received.

Thank you, Jane! I hope you know you are a great role model to so many of us on this forum. I have watched your posts and your strong determination to succeed on all your wellness and health fronts. Your WSFL logs helped me make this decision to go on this path so thanks for all you have done for me and others.

Your comment makes me feel good! Like I succeeded with passing along the "pay it forward" I received. I think the 30 day challenges are great to drive focus on results and compliance to a program because you know the end is within reach. It was rewarding to know I could do it so I hope you find something that energizes you too!
