Oh, Karen... lucky you on the photography retreat! That sounds like fun, and we've certainly had beautiful weather for it!
Just checking in.... I'm back on OPT starting tomorrow and ready to see some progress. Take care!
thanks, ladies - it was a great retreat! i've had a digital slr for a few years, but i really didn't know a lot about it. i learned a ton about my camera and even better, learned how to fix all my pics in photoshop.

thanks for checking in on me - it's been an amazingly bad computer month for me! i had two hard drives quit on me on my main computer and i have got my daughter's pc in pieces. i must have reinstalled win xp at least six times (no exaggeration!) before i got everything working together again. it's a miracle i have any hair left.
i actually did really well during the retreat foodwise. i did have an off-day this week which was really tough to recover from. and i am very tired of the psmf. but my husband and i leave for vegas on monday and it's a rest week from the program (12 weeks on, 1-2 weeks off, tho i think i'll stick to 1). it seems that most everyone who has taken a rest week has had a good experience, and i'm hoping i do too.
unfortunately, i'll be without a computer for the week, so i'll be almost a month behind on everyone's logs, but i'll be thinking about you all!!

This is the hardest part of the whole process, and it needs to be practiced more than the actual physical training. It's mind training." ~ Matt Thorne
"The reason that most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want most for what they want at the moment."
copied and pasted from the official challenge post:
still making good progress - down another 6 pounds (that's 32 overall!!) and 9 inches this month. it's been a bit of a struggle the last two weeks, but i am taking a diet break this week and my husband and i are headed to vegas! i am so ready for a break and i am looking forward to some real variety of eats. i plan to get right back on the psmf when i return and add in a bit more variety as i've let my diet get pretty monotonous lately. and i've been terrible about getting my water in, so that's another big focus area for me. i am still on track to break 200 by year's end and that is very motivating!
august 01
october 26
also wanted to add my daily weights graph for the month:
the pink line is 200 lbs by 12/31/08 goal, the dates without weights was the photography retreat and the mountain in the middle was a two day carb fest. one of the advantages of weighing daily is that a somewhat moderate slip looks huge which was a real kick in the pants!

I am very lucky to have a computer wiz right at home. My husband builds them so I get upgrades often and maintenance when needed. Sorry they can be aggravating at times.
Pics look great. You have done so well! The break will help alot. Have fun on vacation!!
I can't see the pictures, just a blank with an x in it, but it sounds like psmf is doing fabulous for you. Have fun in Vegas! Its actually pretty tiring to walk down the strip a few times a day.
Karen, misery loves company--I just lost my hard drive on my laptop so I can identify. I really lost everything b/c my auto backup wasn't working and I thought it was...blah blah blah. Anyway, my fault, but still horrible...
Hope you get up and running soon! (Or steal someone else's computer like I did lol!)
You're making awesome progress Karen.... way to go!!
thanks, lori

thanks, aeb - we walked a ton, which balanced out the eating quite nicely!!

bummer, celeste - sorry you lost everything! i thought i'd lost my ehd, but i was able to break it out of it's case and with several false starts and lots of curses/prayers, i saved everything from it.

thanks, jen - vegas is my husband's favorite place, so i knew we'd have a great time.
sorry, but i've really been trying to not sit on my butt at the computer all day. it's a really bad habit and one i have got to break if there is any hope of keeping the weight off long term. hugh and i had several discussions on our trip about long-term strategies for eating and staying active. he's also lost quite a bit of weight over the last year or so since his diabetes diagnosis and his thyroid surgery. we're both naturally sedentary and it's been a huge effort to add activity/neat to our days. he's better off since he's on his feet most of the day, but as a sahm with kids in school, i'm nowhere near as active!!
we're thinking about getting a gps for the kids for christmas and getting into geocaching. could be a great reason to get out and about and be a fun family activity. and i'm definitely open to suggestions!
Hee hee Karen, I've started this weird (unintentional) habit of doing most of my surfing/posting while standing at the kitchen counter! I sometimes watch an episode of a favorite tv show while washing dishes, and it morphs into checking email, logging food, etc. So not quite so bad as sitting on my butt.
On the geocaching front, we geocache as a family and we LOVE it! I haven't done hardly any this summer b/c of gas prices (we've done all the close ones lol!) but it's never far from my thoughts! In fact I've got like 14 of my own...
pretty weird graph this month - dropped a pound a day the 6th thru the 14th which was pretty strange. thanksgiving hardly registered since i was careful - tons of veggies before the meal and only tiny slivers of dessert! haven't really been psmf-ing since mid-month - been keeping my protein up, but have also been eating more carbs - particularly fruits & veggies.
i think 200 by 12/31 is a bit unrealistic (but i WILL make it by my birthday on 02/02!) but i'm okay with it. i've lost 40 pounds and 32+ inches since august 1st and that's awesome! i'm no longer shopping in the plus sizes - last pair of jeans were a straight 16. i think i will try to nail the psmf this month then start opt in january. i'm already signed up for the next challenge!
