I am so glad it is working good for you. Sounds like he has a sound program and the calories are not too low I don't think! Is this a book or a free site?
Nice workout Karen, especially on such low calories. Congrats on your ten pounds!
Has your son left for Sarasota yet?
thanks! he leaves on saturday - i miss him already!

it's actually a book (ebook) but he has a lot of info on his site. just a warning, he knows his stuff, but he's a real no bs kind of guy and can be offensive...
Wow Karen - I just read through both your last two workout threads. (How is your hubby doing - I'm guessing he's ok if he's back to work. And how'd your septum surgery go - did it make a difference in your breathing?)
I am very impressed with your dedication. Your diet sounds extream, but stick to it if it is working so long as you have a plan for rehabing your metabolism when you are done losing. I love your comments about enjoying throwing around some iron - I totally get that. I am enjoying the strength I have gained since I started lifting - I cetainly appreciated it this summer on canoe trips.
Looking good in here, Karen. Congrats on the weightloss. Isn't it amazing that we can chill out a bit, focus on the food and lose. Yet, there are times we kill ourselves in the gym and hit the wall?
Nice job.

Keep up the good work!
thanks, catherine. my hubby is doing well - he has follow-up appointments with the surgeon and endocrinologist next month (ultrasound and radioactive scan - worst part is the two weeks iodine restricting diet!). i was anxious about my surgery since it wasn't as "necessary" - was worried about messing with a "good enough" situation. but i am thrilled with the results! not only can i breathe better during my workouts - i am sleeping sooo much better and i never realized there was a problem!
a canoe trip sounds like a lot of fun and i can imagine that those new muscles come in handy.

thanks, ginger. i hear you on the killing ourselves part. i have backed off quite a bit which is an adjustment, but i am hoping to make bigger gains by doing less. sometimes it really is more difficult to work smarter and not harder.

weird, eh? i know that there are lots of people that don't get the same good results on it, but i am loving it!
everything is still going well - food is on track and i have cut back on the weights in order to improve my form and make better gains. i'm still doing the stronglifts program, just doing three sets of five rather than five sets of five. i was pushing too hard last week, it flet good, but i hard terrible doms and i was a bit sloppy. now i am doing it "by the book" - i started with just the oly bar and will add five pounds each session until i stall. my workout today was so easy, it felt weird, but i trust in the system...
Hi Karen,
Good work getting back on track. Theres some quote around about "it's difficult to beat someone who won't stop trying". Those squats sound awesome. I have a love/hate relationship with them. I dropped back the weight recently to work on form.
Are you following a workout program from the Rapid Fat Loss program?
I know I'm late in saying this, but it's nice to see you back here . Great job on the weight loss!
never too late - i only got around to most of the logs today - yours included! btw - love your avi, nice to put a face with a name.

thanks, ceebee, fortunately, it wasn't all at one time. hugh's surgery was in march and mine was in april. my recovery is complete and i am thrilled with the results. hugh's is more long-term with the periodic rechecks with the surgeon and endocrinologist.

carol, i'm actually following the stronglifts 5x5 program, but i'm doing 3x5s instead. there is a workout program for rfl, but it's a little lacking after nrol4w (it uses gallon milk jugs!).
love the quote - will have to post it where i can see it.
Sounds like you're doing great Karen... I admire your dedication to the diet! I don't think that plan would be do-able for me.... I had a hard time getting down to 1200 calories!
"As far as (healthy) eating, either do it, or don't. Same issues repeated over and over is just insanity. We either commit to the endeavor or pay lip-service to it. This is the hardest part of the whole process, and it needs to be practiced more than the actual physical training. It's mind training." ~ Matt Thorne

Thought to check out your log after seeing you pop up in yksin's log
PSMF is a totally doable plan IF your thyroid & adrenals are healthy and also IF you do eat up on your free meal days. Not gorge, but to really enjoy your eats. Restaurant 'set' meals are really good for those ... buffets not so much. OTOH, I really wished they'd have kilo restaurants here like they have in Brasil! There they have buffet restaurants everywhree but in the end you pay by weight.
This really encourages people to load a lot of light weight foods like veggies & fruit onto their plate. Best of both worlds actually: getting small bites of everything and yet not the awful effects of the 'all you can eat buffets'. Somehow I don't understand why this concept has never been introduced here (Europe or the US/Canada).
Anyway.. congrats to your ongoing weight loss and... indeed: getting there is HALF the fun! Have a great journey.
Espi, I'm not sure about the US, but in Canada you see a number of grocery stores with salad bars where you pay by weight. There will be a combination of lettuce, veggies, fruits, cheeses, pre-made salads, and sometimes meat and eggs, etc. Although I agree, buffets are killer here.
Grocery stores yes, by all means. Every grocery store uses a pay by weight system.
But restaurants? Only in Brasil I've seen this particular system. Me & my travel partner loved them and would nearly exclusively go to those as we loved the system so much.
Hi Karen, thanks for stopping by my log. I get in such a rut from time to time that I find it hard to venture out into other logs. I'm glad I popped into this one. I'll be interested to see how this program works for you. It looks like so far it great!
Karen your progress is amazing so far! Congrats on all fronts. If you are getting terrible DOMs that doesn't go away within 3 days, it may be a sign that you are overworked. That is how I always know that it is time for a rest week.

karen, i've wanted to go back for a degree in graphic arts for a while now but there are almost no options for that in maine. we made a quick trip to check out the univ of maine campus last week since my daughter is a senior this year. anyway, the video they showed us in admissions mentioned a "new media" program and when i got home, i looked it up and was hooked. i immediately applied and had all of my transcripts sent (i've got a ba in english & secondary ed & ms ed. in curriculum and instruction). now i am waiting to hear back. school starts next week, so i was surprised that they were still accepting applications, but i figured, there's no time like the present. right?!
Good luck with the application Karen. I know that if I'd really considered it last summer I could have already been a year into my course. So I do hope you get in for the fall this year!

i am pretty pleased with my progress this month. new goals are to up my water intake and be better about getting to the gym (they've started crossfit classes in the weight pit - at the same time i normally would lift and i am such a creature of habit that i am having a tough time working around them). i posted stats from may since i think they better represent the progress i've made since i didn't do a whole lot between april 1 and august 1 and the august stats were really off. i've always been a weekly weigher and i find the daily scale readings very interesting. not sure i understand them, but maybe after a few months i'll see some trends.
