ahahaha. i was driving through parts of Arlington the other day..trying to find my way to the testing site...they had stupid crazy directions for some reason... i knew i shouldn't have followed them. waste of gas
sucks about the insincereness

yea, they blew. i could have gotten off exit 29, but nope, the directions had me get off at exit 31 (on 93).
anywho...gym today:
had a fun workout i'd say, was really pumped up. i read (i think on Lyle's forum or maybe the RFL book) that i can take 5g of glucose before working out without really effecting my diet. so i bought some and man, it definitely helped me through the workout. usually my energy is sapped pretty quick, but not today.
5 minute on C2 rower. moderate pace to get the blood moving
dynamic warm up + easy bodyweight stuff
squats:
10x135
8x225
15x1x315
deadlifts:
5x1x225
5x1x315
then i did a quick ladder to a triple then back down
1x315, 2x315, 3x315, 2x315, 1x315
heavy face pulls
x10
x10
ab-pull downs
x10
x10
---
squats went great. i exploded out of the hole. speed slowed down at the end, but finished strong. deadlifts went great, the triple went up fast on all 3.
good workout

DB snatches
3x5x65 each hand

3x5x135
SS w/
3x10 BW pushups
Face pulls:
3x10x120
and funny story walking home from the gym:
so i was walking outside and i see this group get out of a van near the boxing entrance of the building. a group of about 10 teenagers start crossing the street. and i notice that 1/2 of them are smoking. all i could do was chuckle to myself as i walked past them.

Teens love smoking. I'd like to say that it's sad, but I was one of those smoking teens. Were they going into the boxing entrance or just parking near it? Smoking and boxing don't go together too well.
Looks like something I'm going to be doing when I get back to Denver: 5 sets of 5 with about 90s rest, except exercises are broken into groups of 2 each (I don't have my log with me and I can't remember which exercises and groupings are, but I think there's 6 total). How'd you like it?
i hated it haha. the first time through wasn't all that bad. but the 2nd time...man, i didn't want to do it anymore, but i finished it. then the rowing sucked too. just so tired at that point haha.
right now, i'm just trying out different types of workouts - as long as they provide a full body workout i'm happy. i am thinking of doing a upper/lower split a,b, off, a,b, off off type schedule. who knows though.
tonight:
1 - 1.2 mile run with my sister. felt better than the last 3-4 times we've done this run in the past 2 weeks.
and it gives us time to talk

So, what kind of exercises and techniques did you use for your ankle? I thought mine was better, but after running 2 days and about half a game of bowling, it's clear that it's not. I'd like to start working on getting that back up to where it should be in a way that isn't "stay off it."
at first, we did a whole bunch of band work doing flexion/dorsiflexion and inverting/everting
so pretty much lots of reps with a light band moving my ankle up and down, then left and right. the band tension got stronger over time, added more reps
balancing drills - started with just standing on 1 leg on solid ground. then moved onto a foam pad. then we did this exercise where i had to walk on these spiky balls, they would squish down when i stepped on them. i had to hold on one foot for a count of 3 before i moved onto the next ball thingy. but this exercise was well into my therapy.
simple calf raises - started out doing it with both feet. then progressed to using just 1 foot. then progressed to doing the raises on the foam pad
then lots of calf stretching, with the toes pointed up.
we ended with a 20 minutes ice bath where i just moved the ankle around
this is while i was still swimming and sort of lifting. overtime squats got easier. then by time rugby started, i was doing really well. wasn't giving any problems. but yea, i did a good 2-3 months of therapy, because my ankle was really fucked

dynamic warmup - get the hips open, legs loose, shoulders loose, etc
squats:
10x135
10x225
2x5x315
1x365
1x385 *very hard. almost got planted coming out of the hole. very much struggled to get this up. definitely over reached on this. i'm buying myself a pair of chucks this week, squatting in cross trainers isn't going to cut it as i keep adding more weight, especially once i finish my dieting.
DB bench press
10x50
10x50
10x65
10x65
chest supported row:
8x90
8x90
8x90
8x90
SS w/ pushup
10xbw
10xbw
10xbw
10xbw
preacher curl with e-z curl bar
3x8xheavy. don't remember what was on the bar, but it was a struggle at the end of each set
some tricpe pushdowns
quick jog home
i'm am definitely tired. very tired after this workout.

10 minutes on the C2 rower. very easy so it felt like forever haha
squats
10xbar
10x135
4x10x225
60 second break
pull throughs
4x10x100
SS w/
heavy ab pulldown
4x10xheavy
60 second break
on a water break some guy asked me about the cable pull throughs i was doing. so i told him about it and what they are for. then he asked me about my leg days. i told him how i set up my squat days and some of the exercises i do. so hopefully i'll be seeing him in the squat rack soon - hopefully i got a convert, we'll see
but yea, nice quick workout. going to keep the workouts pretty simple this week: 3-4 exercises and come back home. i was sweating bullets during the squats though. nice, slow and controlled reps - very smooth.
i'm also below 250lbs. so fat loss is going great.

yea, it'll be interesting. glad he had some courtesy too, you know, to wait until i wasn't doing or just about to do the lift haha
i did have an unexpected call to go officiate a soccer game yesterday. a boys game. got there at halftime. so i got some running in. gave out 2 yellow cards for unsportsmanlike behavior (swearing at me). then we almost had a fight between the teams. crazy crazy crazy
and thanks

Well that was nice. The people in the gym I go to are not quite as courteous.
Sounds like an interesting time (what's soccer without swearing and a fight?).
yea, i don't mind the swearing out of frustration or some physical play...but they took it way overboard for a high school match. when i got there, i talked to the other official and he said he wsa letting them play a bit physcial, so i was like cool. so thats how i called it. only called a foul when someone was really pushed or tripped. then 1 player started mouthing off to me, and i gave him a verbal warning first. he continued after another play, so i sent him off with a yellow.
then a kid on the the other team asked me if i was fucking blind. he fell to the ground when he ran past another player and fell a good 5 yards away - wasn't anywhere close to the other team when he fell. he slipped on the mud and wants me to call a foul. so he got sent off with a yellow card as well.
i'm glad the majority of my games a JV girls haha. much much easier to officiate

That is crazy about the soccer game. My dad's a ref but had so many coaches yelling at him and so much unsportsmanlike behavior that he stepped back a bit this year. He's only reffing in "emergencies". The dumb thing is that our league doesn't have enough refs or coaches, so why would the coaches be obnoxious and chase a ref away?
We were at my son's U-8 soccer game the other day (6-7 yo) and there was one set of parents getting really upset at their kid (and the rest of the team also). We were like, "chill, they're SIX!!!!!!!!!!!" Crazy
yeah, I guess when they start swearing at you, it's not ok. I would imagine that the girls would be worse (just remember how I was as a teen).
Parents do seem to go a bit overboard, even when the kids are young. Two years ago, a fight almost broke out at my boyfriend's son's little league game. The kids were 7. Given, the coach for the other team was an ass, but still, let the kids have fun and spaz out on the field.

i was only a teenager when i was doing youth league games. like 14-15. i gave some red cards to parents. i've ended a game because a parent wouldn't leave the field of play - certainly not going to take abuse. it only hurts the kids
but so far i haven't gotten any thing from the coaches.

the girls are so much easier haha, in all facets of the game. i don't have to run as much. they rarely talk back. i do find myself helping the girls out much more with learning how to play - it is JV games.
I do think the coaches should be working on game skills like passing, shooting, dribbling than worrying about setting up offside traps. when they get the fundamentals down, then they can worry about offside traps. i'll call a couple offsides a game, but i'll watch more plays where the defender misses the ball completely and the offense just runs past to score a goal or at least gets a somewhat decent shot off

now i did all this knowing i had to officiate a soccer game. my schedule says JV girls. which means not so much running during the game, since they are really slow paced games. however, i get to the field to find out that i am doing a varsity boys game haha - which requires much more running, along with running faster haha.
not so fun right now. legs feel like jello

woke up feeling like total shit. huge head and chest cold and it got progressively worse over the day. lose my sense of balance when i stand up, walk, or sit down...so i just said no to the gym.
have a game tomorrow to officiate...we'll see how i feel after that...hopefully this doesn't last too long
