OK, talk away. Need help, post here. Have a vent, post here. Just want to talk about the challenge, post here. I won't be doing a weekly thread, so as not to clog up the training forum, so this will be our official "anything" thread.
REMINDER: PICS and STATS are due the FIRST MONDAY of every month. Mark your calendars! Especially for September, as pics are due on Labor Day. I'll have the monthly threads posted early for anyone who needs to plan ahead.
I just want to pop in here and give kudos to all the ladies who posted pictures, got their goals together, etc. We all know the anxiety involved in posting pictures and everyone should be proud, because that is the first step.
Good luck to everyone and we will be starting out the new year looking and feeling better!

So, I lost 5.5# since last Tuesday...I'm on my way! So glad I joined the challenge!!! I would say good luck, but I don't think anyone here needs luck when they have strength, motivation, and goals. So, here's to 66 motivated and strong women with achievable goals!!!!
"As far as (healthy) eating, either do it, or don't. Same issues repeated over and over is just insanity. We either commit to the endeavor or pay lip-service to it. This is the hardest part of the whole process, and it needs to be practiced more than the actual physical training. It's mind training." ~ Matt Thorne
"The reason that most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want most for what they want at the moment."
good job, Michelle! I'm jealous! I'm still at my post-trip balloon up weight (ugh...so it's probably not all water after all) and trying to be very careful today and this week to get that back down.

I know Bytsi will also attest to this but it can take DAYS AND DAYS to come down off a sodium/water retention scale high. It sucks, but it takes awhile to normalize.
Also, I have to say that weight that is quickly/easily put on usually comes off pretty fast too. You can do it!
Just want to say thanks for letting me join. I was so lucky to find it just in time last night. Stayed up late to get all my stuff together, wasn't going to miss the opportunity. I have NEVER posted pics before so thats a big step for me. I hope to get to know all of you. I need a support group of friends with fitness goals. Good Luck to everyone!!! Work hard!
Last challenge we started with 54 and 24% (13 of us) finished. Let's all of us stay strong and focused and finish with 100% for this challenge. We can do it!
I'm glad I joined. I need the accountability and support and chopping my head off of my pictures makes it easier for me to deny its me!!! So that took care of my anxiety about posting 'em.
Im glad I joined too. SO on another note,I want to start a chit chat topic.
Does anyone here find they are hungrier and crave carbs more when they are tired and lacking sleep. My baby has been sick again for the past few days and has been waking up every 2 hours........and I am sooooooooooooooooo EXHAUSTED. Seriously, I am dead.
So I find that I am in need of more carbs, and Ive been reaching for fruit, which isnt bad, and went over my allotted cals by a 100 due to strong hunger pangs...I know it somewhat psychological, but also there is a physical component too. I will post the question in FLTS>
Workoutgirl - I'm definitely more hungry when I don't sleep well. I'm also less co-ordinated and this is not a good thing on a lifting day! Knowing it's a problem I will sometime substitute in something higher bulk to try and help.

I started thinking about this and realized that I can't remember the last time I craved carbs. When I'm hungry I automatically look for protein now. Craving carbs when you're tired might be more of a psychological response because carbs are comfort to most of us. I bet if you stay on this diet long enough you will break that habit.
Workoutgirl, I eat more when I'm tired too. I've always thought that it's because I can't think of anything else to do, especially when I'm in situations where I can't go to sleep (like at the office)--kind of like the eating when bored thing that I'm also guilty of. Carbs are usually quick and easy to grab; especially fruit. They also seem to provide a brief pick-me-up, which could maybe explain the craving?
I hope your baby starts feeling better and you're able to get some sleep.
I definatly crave carbs when I am tired. And I find it just make me even more tired and irritable so I "try" to choose something else.
My challenge so far consited of not gaining weight while I was away for the long weekend.
I am away pretty much for the last 3 weeks of August so my goal will be the same. No Gaining. I don't expect much difference between my August/Sept pics other than a really good tan!
I would like to hear what everyone eats pre and post workouts. Also, why and when.
I've never even looked at my Pre workout meal, I just make sure that it's about an hour before otherwise, I get lightheaded.
Postworkout, I usually do a scoop of protein powder and a 1/2 of a banana. It seems like I read some where that the protein needs a carb to help it get delivered to the muscles but maybe I made that up because I love bananas !
I'm trying to gain muscle right now if that makes any difference.

Just wanted to say that my FIL (several years ago) was visiting his Dr. about his sleep apnea and also were discussing his weight (morbidly obese). The Dr. made a good point that I always try to remember: your body gets energy two ways--food and sleep. If your not getting one (in his and your case, sleep) then food will become your energy source, which would explain your hunger.
My unexpert advice, grab your apple and a protein/fat (pepperoni, lunch meat, cheese...trying to think of something with fiber, maybe fiber one cereal) to fill your belly. And then hold that baby, because soon they go to kindergarden!

Hey Chloe2,
I like to eat nuts as a pre-WO snack if I need one. They seem to give me good energy without that heavy feeling on my stomach. Post WO I love eggs (mostly whites) and either oats or ezekiel bread with some berries. Occasionally I put honey on the bread for a sweet something, but not too often. It becomes addictive so I have to limit it. Whey protein is great but my stomach is sensitive to all protein powders so I stick to whites.
From what I have learned the carbs gives you that insulin spike to shuttle the nutrients to your muscles. Helps for faster recovery. (I love reading about fitness, anything I can get my hands on) I just pass it along.
Last night I had a banana preworkout and a piece of string cheese on the drive home. I'm not consistent with what I have, though. If I don't have food with me, I'll buy a workout shake at the gym. Actually, that banana before my workout just by itself was great. I only ate it maybe 20 minutes before my deadlifts and I had plenty of energy and wasn't pukey or anything. I might try that again and see if it was a fluke.
I usually have a shake preworkout and a banana and shake PWO. Ususally holds me over by the time I get home, feed baby and nap her.........then I can have my oatmeal and eggwhites
Has anyone put together a list of links to all the participant's journals? I was gonna do one for myself, so if there's interest, I'll post it here unless someone has already done it!

I'd love to see the list! I want to try to follow everyone's progress.
Chloe2 - I tend to workout in the mornings at the moment so I usually just make sure I have a decent breakfast (eggs, toast, fruit) but that's usually a couple of hours beforehand. If it's too far away I'll have almonds closer to the time. Afterwards I'll have a protein shake with fruit either in it, or with it.
SwimBikeRun - it's probably not a bad idea. I've subbed to the logs I could find even though some didn't have them in their signatures. I didn't find logs for the following though: ~karen~, bev77, bittersweet, bonnie, brandy, clovergirl, glitzee, indichick, maggieandmommy, pinkgingham_19, rtwilson
(Having a log isn't a requirement, I was just curious at who did. If you log elsewhere and want to share, feel free to do it here.)
Yeah, I don't have a log yet--I can't think of a name! It's on my to do list, though. I do log my food in SparkPeople and also track it on an excel sheet I did.
