Well I'm not exactly an "emotional" eater... but I am much more lax on weekends, especially when I'm with others who aren't keeping track of what they're eating. I try to make decent choices, but even if I do that, my portions tend to be all over the place. I also tend to be in situations where I'm not in control of the food that's around me. Like this coming weekend we're all going out and while I'll try to find something decent on the menu, I know the chicken is cooked in uber amounts of oil and butter... which ruins the nutrition of it. *Sigh*. I'm working on it though.
This is pretty much my problem as well. We travel nearly every weekend- bringing all my own food is simply out of the question, and most of the time I eat what's available when it is available as we are diving and quite busy....

Can you believe I haven't seen this thread until now? Anyway, just wanted to sub and encourage all the challenge ladies to stay strong and work hard to achieve our goals!
Ok... wow... I usually just hit my subscribed threads and only check the training log section every week or 2... so Celeste - you're far from the last one - I JUST found this thread today!!!
Anyway... feeling kinda stupid that I didn't know it was here... oh well - better late than never! Subscribed now, at least
FWIW, I can be a very emotional eater. The longer I'm on program, the better I am at resisting because I have that momentum behind me. I noticed, in the past , that if I had an argument with DH or the kids were pissing me off, I'd find my hand in the chocolate or cookies. It's hard to separate hunger from appetite.
TTOTM can also be a big derail for me - I'll wake up with AF visiting and go "oh, so THAT'S why the chips attacked me last night" - duh!
Have you guys been watching the Olympics? I'm watching the Men's Gymnastics right now and I'm in absolute awe of their bodies and how they can use them. I just watched one of the USA guys on the high bar and holy cow he did some amazing stuff! And one of the China guys on the rings was so unbelievably impressive! Are you guys having any experiences like this--now that you're perhaps more aware of the different muscles and the work that probably goes into some of those moves or the building of some of those muscles?
I've mainly been watching the equestrian events, but the horses are pretty impressive.
The sailing is on at the moment and it reminds me that learning how to sail is on my list of things to do at some point in my life.
I'd like to watch the swimming and gymnastics but they start at 10pm on the west coast (seriously, do we need 2 hours of syncho diving and beach volleyball from 8-10? Sure the girls are cute but its like not anywhere near the medal time).
I fell asleep at 10:35 last night after a teensy bit of gymnastics and 2 swim finals. Sigh. By the time I wake up in the morning the results are already all over the news (or before its even aired in Pacific Time Zone ... I'm talking to you NY Times online!!!)
I'm feeling ranty today, its my TOM and I made my boyfriend hide the brownies.
They are impressive, aren't they, Anne? I used to be involved in the horsey world (years ago and way before arthritis!), even up to the level of Young Riders, so I should check out the Equestrian events, too. I wonder if anybody I used to compete with has made it that far...several were headed in that direction!
The horses are always my favorite! I used to event and then did dressage when I got too chicken to do those jumps, and still love to spectate - I wish they showed more of it!!!
We're actually lucky in that one of the digital channels is basically just doing sailing and equestrian coverage. Hey, I didn't even know it was one of the ones we got.
"As far as (healthy) eating, either do it, or don't. Same issues repeated over and over is just insanity. We either commit to the endeavor or pay lip-service to it. This is the hardest part of the whole process, and it needs to be practiced more than the actual physical training. It's mind training." ~ Matt Thorne
"The reason that most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want most for what they want at the moment."
Hey everyone just thought I would jump in here into the chat.
I weigh myself everyday as sort of a check on myself. I have a range where I feel comfortable being in. I go through times where I don't weigh myself at all (just went the past 2 weeks w/o) but am back to it.
I'm wondering........Do you all weigh yourself everyday?
I only weigh in about once/week and sometimes not even that often.
I weigh about 5 times a week. It is supposed to be everyday but sometimes I forget. I also take measurements once a month and try on the entire wardrobe in my closet that is too small for me once a month! LOL

Cool! I loved jumping--cross country was always my favorite. There's nothing like running and jumping, especially with a horse that loves it. That's one of my goals, actually--to get back into good enough shape that I can ride again. I miss it.

Which one is that, Anne? I'll have to go channel surfing!

I do. I like to keep an eye on the daily fluctuations--it helps me know what things make me go up and down. I don't get all hung up on the actual weight--I just try to use it as a measure of how I'm doing that week.
They must have moved the logs around today because I've had the hardest time finding this thread today! I've had to get here from the subscription update link and couldn't find the thread listed in the training logs...little did I know that there is now a special Challenge Training Log section! hehehe

It's called Bold here and likely a Canadian channel. I did see on the Yahoo TV schedule available that Oxygen is carrying the Equestrian competitions although they seem to be shorter in length so they are likely edited a bit. I don't see any US channels carrying the sailing (odd) although it can be a little like watching paint dry for an hour. It has its moments though (I haven't really had it on as much).
Thanks, Anne! Oxygen is carrying Gymnastics (Women's, I'm assuming), Equestrian, and Tennis from 5-7pm CST for the rest of the week and I think next week as well. YAY!
I don't weigh everyday. I weigh every 2-3 days but I only track my weekly weigh-ins. I use the weigh-ins to help adjust my water intake esp. if I've had too much sodium.
I don't weigh myself often at all. I know that my weight and my scale fluctuate so much, it's just not worth it to me to do it often because it can change by 3-4 lbs between morning and evening. I go by how my clothes fit and how I look in the mirror. I don't really care how much I weigh if my clothes fit well and I look good
Yes, I weigh everyday. There are days I wish I didn't, though.
X2 (or 3 or 4 or - wow, lot's of us!!!)
I need the vigilance - I was a maintainer for years, and now here I am with weight to lose. Lack of vigilance, denial, slipping in habits. I need to stay on top of it, although I try hard to see the bigger (weekly, monthly) trends.

I miss it too!!!
Oxygen - hmmm - must try to find it!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did any of you horse fans see the ESPN:60 episode last night about eventing "The World's Most Dangerous Sport"? Scary stuff - 15 riders killed this past year from falls where the horse lands on top of them . I knew there was a reason I became more of a chicken and quit jumping (before I quit riding altogether ). It might be on repeats if you didn't catch it - Captain Mark Phillips had a very scary attitude - the "it's dangerous, take it or leave it" instead of figuring out ways to make it safer .
I weighed myself daily until my wet puppy broke my scale. I was supposed to get a new one over the weekend, but that didn't happen. It's making me crazy. I do it for trends.
I weigh every day. My silly reason is that I'm afraid if I weigh once a week, that might happen to be one of my heavy days. If I weigh every day I get to see the highs and the lows. I've been doing it for so long that I know I have a pattern of going up and down, but I can also see the trend. The times when I have not weighed myself every day, I still felt good and thin even though I was gaining weight. It was too easy to rationalize and next thing I knew I had 10 pounds to lose again.
You could take the five day average (today and your weight readings from the last 4 days). This would help smooth out the line so you could more easily see where you're going.

The Google 15 tool is an easy way to keep track of moving average weight.
Guys I need your advice! My baby is sick again. It was a fever last night and again no sleep. I dont want to drop out of this challenge. But I really need to start rethinking my gym attendance, as I think she is picking up viruses in childwatch.
I have a spin bike at home.
I have a squat rack, bench, and dumbells in my garage, as well as a stability ball.
I need to modify my program. I could probably work out at home sometimes when she is napping or have her watch baby Einstein while I work out. Or I can use the days that she is sick as recovery and just reduce my calories down to 40% deficit like in the recovery part of OPT.
But at this point, with all these obstacles, I wont be able to do a specific "program", I need to modify and create my own.
