I had another outbreak of hives over the weekend, just when I thought I had it figured out.

Thank you so much for the compliment. That is the fourth time I have heard I don't look my age in two weeks, so I'll choose to believe it! If I have a body like yours at 40, I'll be thrilled!

Thanks, Karen! I think I am good with chicken and eggs. Cutting out turkey is cutting out a fourth of my protein sources, which is bad enough!

I just wanted to check in as I've been "out" all week. I have spent 15 hrs dancing since last Thursday! A little bit of everything has been sore over the weekend, but especially my obliques, shoulders, inner thighs and booty! I didn't log food or count calories, but ate when I was hungry and man, was I hungry! The scale is up unreasonably high this morning, so I hope it's water weight - I know some part of it is because the water percentage on the Tanita is 4% over the norm.

Anyway, I am back and inspired by all the lovely ladies who taught the workshops. They are in amazing shape! What I would give to have a body like a professional bellydancer! I'll have to figure out how to post pics and post a few later.

My goals this week are to stay within my calorie range, do cardio 3x and NROLW 2x. Yes, a change of plans, mainly because after last week's craziness at work I want to make a career change and that requires cutting some expense, including the gym. But, I have everything I need to do NROLW at home and managed to get in great shape working out at home last time.

Default One other goal

I've decided I need to stop smoking! I have quit a few times before for years at a time. Last December, my husband and I were supposed to quit together with Chantix. He was successful, but I was not. The Chantix worked within two weeks, but I stupidly chose to smoke a cigarette and was suckered right back in to full-time smoking. I'm starting my taking Chantix today and there will be no smoking next Monday. I felt really stupid working my body so hard in those workshops, but running out for a smoke on our 10 minute breaks. And, my allergist was shocked to find out I worked out regularly AND smoked. And now, a friend's dad has been diagnosed with lung cancer and prospects are not good. So, I need to do this for my kids. I want to be around to enjoy the grandkids and be an active grandma. I put on 4lbs at the beginning of the year by quitting smoking, so I don't know how well this will bode for the challenge, but it must be done. My life or 4lbs? I can deal with a little extra if I have to, but hopefully I don't have to.

Just keep thinking about how much easier it'll be to BREATHE during your workouts (and in general) without the cigarettes. Quitting (as you know) is one of the best things you could ever do for your health.

Oh, sorry about the hives! Dancers have some nice posture and move so gracefully, so you'll always move like a younger woman, lucky you.

My girlfriend just starting smoking again and can not believe how it limits her breathing with her sports, to second what Bytsi said. Maybe quitting this time will be different for you. If you are tracking your food, just that awareness of your intake might make a difference.

Think of all the money you'll save too

Good luck with working out at home and thanks for your kind words!

Thank you!

Well, I am long overdue for a check-in here. I've spent the better part of last week recovering from the dance workshops. I managed to do a FIRM DVD twice that combines weights with cardio. I really like these! But no muscle soreness the next day whatsoever except for abs.

After doing much thinking, I have decided to switch plans and give Leigh's OPT a try for workouts. The NROL workouts kick my butt. That's good, but they leave me with shaky legs and sore muscles in dance class and I really want to progress in dance class and move up a level before the end of the year. So, today starts Leigh's OPT. I'll be short a cardio session this week unless I can squeeze it in somewhere. My schedule will look like this:

M - cardio, dance
T - OPT
W - OPT
H - cardio, dance
F - off
S - cardio, OPT
U - OPT

I'm still smoking, but thanks to the Chantix, cigarettes are starting to get nasty. I'm hoping to be off them within a week. *fingers crossed*

I was 150 cals over Leigh's recommendation yesterday even though I had planned to be on target. I had no cigarettes yesterday afternoon and went for some Annie's Bunny Grahams, but I did count out and measure every little bunny - not totally mindless snacking - but those little bunnies pushed me up to 1500 calories rather than the 1350-ish I was aiming for. Still, 1500 is a decent deficit for me.

Now, I am about to get my 5 year old up. Today's her first day of school! Kindergarten! I don't know who's more excited.

I came here for the accountability, so I am going to do a better job of logging food and workouts. Yesterday's (Monday's) food was:

cals 1,513
carbs 176
fat 37
protein 125

46c/32p/21f

Close, but no dice. I have a hard time getting the fat up. Any suggestions?

Also, how in the world do I create links in my signature, so I can link to my Sparkpeople and my log? You'd think after 10 years in web development I could figure this out, but I don't understand the BB code.

More fats: Try almonds, natural peanut butter, olive oil

Little one going to kindergarten! Wow! Congrats! I remember that day, but it was a long time ago for my youngest (a "grown-up" in his own mind, almost-teenager).

Also - I like avocado and whole eggs for fat, in addition to Jane's suggestions...

first day of kindergarten - what a bittersweet day!

sounds like the opt plan makes a lot of sense and is line with what you want and need - your dancing is important to you and doesn't need to be sacrificed.

as for the signature, i usually type out the words that i want to be visible, then highlight whichever words i want included in my link, then hit the link button (earth with the chain link) and paste in the http address. i've only got one link in my sig, but others have several and some are even pretty fancy. you're probably just making it harder than it has to be, lol!

Oh, first day of kindergarten. They are SO cute. Hope she had a great day.

Aren't you transitioning to working out at home? OPT is a great choice for home workouts

Thanks, Jane! I love nuts, but haven't been eating them as we work through the food allergies, but may be able to give them a try in another week. I always cook with Pam, so the olive oil is a good idea.

I am going to be working out at home. We'll see if I can live without the gym. I think I can...

My daughter says she LOVES school. You couldn't pay me to be a kindergarten teacher on the first day of school. One little girl was crying and wailing from the time I got there until I left her. In that time, I made her a new name tag (we knew going by her middle name would be trouble!, helped her hang up her backpack, opened her playdoh and talked to her a bit. When I asked her if the little girl ever quit crying, she said yes but a boy started crying and took his backpack and lunch box and said he was leaving, but "that was not an option". And, they got to draw on VANILLA paper! And she carried her lunch tray all by herself. This is because she's independent, not like all those other little crybabies.

I am not sure I'm getting a workout in tonight. Just got the kids in bed and have my own homework to do and I have 1.5 hrs left before bed. Let me see how fast I can get the homework done! Or maybe I should just workout and do paperwork right before bed...

Food today was good:

1,377 cals - target is 1380
43c/35p/22f

Default OPT A1 2008.08.26

It's awfully hard to be less than 15ft from the workout equipment and not do it!

I just realized I had target macros for carbs and protein reversed. Oops! I guess less carbs tomorrow.

Wide Stance DB DL

10x25s
10x25s
10x25s

SB Bridge

10
10
10

Could probably use weight on these.

SB Flys - This is harder than it looks!

10x10s
4x10s
6x8s
10x8s

Neutral Grip Shoulder Press

10x8s
10x8s
10x8s

Can probably do 10s on these.

Prone Superman - Not sure I understand how we're supposed to do this one? 3 sets of 10 for 3 seconds each? I split the difference.

1x30 secs
10x3 secs
1x30 secs

Low to High Woodchops - Hello abs!

10x10s
10x10s
10x10s

Planks

1x50 secs
1x60 secs
1x30 secs

Followed by cobra and child's pose. Feeling pinchy in the sacro-iliac.

Default OPT A2 2008.08.27

Food was bad! I had a 2 hr errand to run on my 1 hr lunch break and had a cheeseburger and fries instead of my planned salad so I could eat it in the car. Bad choice!

cals 1670
45c, 22p, 32f

Did OPT A2 today. Not posting numbers as my goals really isn't gaining strength? And then I'm wondering if Leigh wants the whole workouts posted when you should probably pay to get the book...?

Hi, all. I got in a 45 min cardio workout at lunch - Turbo Jam Cardio Party 2. And... I am skating in just under my target by less than 10 calories. No more eating tonight! Dad and kids have gone to karate, so I may skip dance class and enjoy the downtime.
