Christine, I thought I posted here this morning that it was nice to put a face with your posts. Now I'm thinking it's randomly posted in someone else's log and maybe I wasn't awake enough. Anyway, you look great!

Thanks Chloe! My friend emailed the pic this morning and I posted it as my avi on the spur of the moment. If I had thought about it too long, I'd have chickened out

Thank you Karen! We have an internet filter on our computers for the kids. It causes me to lose posts too, hate it when that happens!

Today was an interval day. I ran with a girlfriend on a nice shaded fitness trail around a small lake. She is really trying to lose weight and so we did one of Lyle's stubborn fat protocols.

Walk/run warmup, 10 minutes

Intervals, x 10
15 seconds @5:45 pace
45 seconds @18:00 pace

rest for 5 minutes and then we walked fast for 20 minutes.

Then, the best part, the sauna for 10-15 minutes

There's a more aggressive protocol, but this kicks my butt just plenty. My other cardio is inclined walking on the treadmill 2x/wk. I miss the harder cardio but I am old and tired

I hardly believe anyone who does those type of intervals to be old or slow. Good job.

Default NROLW Stage 3, Workout 4A

Did tons of foam rolling and mobility work preworkout. I had done intervals the day before and ideally I should take a rest day afterwards. But I wanted to leave Saturday a family day, so I worked out anyway.

1 armed db snatch
3 x 6, 25, 25, 30
first time I made all the reps with the 30

Alternating sets
1 legged RDL
3 x 6, oly bar
BB bent row
3 x 6, 80, 80, 75
Thank you Jane and Kara for the idea to use the bar instead of Db's. Much easier.

1 armed O/H squat
3 x 6, 8/15
Tricep pushups, hands on hex shaped db's
2 x 8
1 x 10
I won't miss those squats

4 point plank on swiss ball
3 x :90
Reverse cable wood chop
3 x 6, #6 plate
used the small size swiss ball, which put me a bit of a decline. I still want to work up to the 3 point version.

Skipped the body weight matrix, because I was completely dragging through the entire workout. With all the foam rolling, I was at the gym 90 minutes, enough already!

Today is a rest day

You know, I'm still horribly balanced on the SLRDL's, but the oly bar IS helping and it's getting better. I'm glad you found it better, as well.

Default End of stage 3, workout 4B

Foam rolling and dynamic stretching

RDL/Row
3 x 6, 75, 80, 80

Superset:

Partial leg squat
3 x 6, bw
WG lat pulldown
3 x 7, 65, 70, 70

squatted down to the seat of a hammer chest machine. I dropped the seat setting each time to get a little lower, ending on 9, which is a couple of inches of below my knee.

Hack squats (plus whatever the sled weighs)
2 x 8, 50, 100
1 x 6, 150
guessing on what weight to use

Supersets:

Good mornings (subbed for back extension)
3 x 6, oly bar
YTWL's
3 x 6's, 3's
The Y's still cause my shoulder to crack even with the itty bitty db's

Hanging knee raises from smith machine
2 x 12, bw.
Double leg lowering
2 x 12, bw, :10 seconds each
Side plank leg abducted, hip raises
2 x 6, bw
cut these short b/c we had company for dinner and I needed to get home and cook The first set of double legs thingys I tried on the decline board (head higher, feet lower) but it was super hard to keep my back flat.

I tweaked my elbow earlier in the year while lifting and it's bothering me again. Hopefully with the next stage of exercises, it'll be ok.

5am? That's dedication. I was supposed to do a 5:30 walk with the dog (15 minutes tops), and hit the snooze instead. I think the dog was as happy about that as I was. Instead we did 10 minutes at 6am and I missed my bus. Oh well...

I just wanted to thank you for stopping by my journal and giving words of encouragement.

Also, you really have the kind of body "shape" I want (you look incredible!). I may be commenting in your journal again and bombarding you with questions; hope you don't mind!

Yikes - I'm not alert enough at that hour to do cardio. I've got one morning where I lift in the AM and I need to be up at least 30 mins before I'm awake enough to do it. Even when I did cardio in the morning I would wake up, get dressed, drive to work, then do the cardio. I suspect I'd fall off the treadmill at 5am.

I'm very impressed!

Thanks Anne! That's funny because I think lifting early is harder than cardio. It's like the blood doesn't want to get flowing yet that early.

5am, yes, on occasion, if I wake up that early without an alarm, I like to get the workout out of the way. I only workout that early from time to time. It's the people like Lorigaud that consistently work out early that wow me.

As far as body comp, I look pretty much exactly the same as the beginning of the challenge because I've been eating at maintenance, i.e., surplus on lifting days and deficit on cardio days. At some point during the challenge I will diet. But right now, it's a delayed gratification thing

Worked out early again today, will post details later, except to say I think yohimbine makes me nauseous. I drank 1/2 can of Spike (energy drink with yohimbine) preworkout and I wanted to yak at the gym

Thanks. It did get better from there. Although, I did miss the bus again today--I seem to be having issues with the mornings. It pretty much just means that I end up driving to the train station.

I know what you mean about maintaining. I was right there with you on that until a few weeks ago. It is really reassuring to know that you can eat at maintenance and make it all work.

And, finally, ick. I hope you feel better.

Default NROLW Stage 4, workout 1A, 3 X 8

10-15 of foam rolling and dynamic stretching. Since my elbows (inside tendon) have been hurting, I foam rolled my triceps. Definitely some tender trigger points there.

Front squat w/push press
2 x 8, 50, 55
1 x 5, 65
Final set was getting really sloppy, so I did 5 reps and then finished with 3 front squats, no press. My wrists hurt on the last set, but I *think* that's supposed to get better over time.

Alternating sets:
Step ups
3 x 8, 25's
1 point row
3 x 8, oly bar

Static lunge, rear foot elevated
3 x 8, 25's
Tricep pushups, hands on db's
3 x 8, bw

skipped the core work due to time constraints. Tough workout.

Ugh, I woke up again at 3am, which is several days in a row now. When I don't sleep, my body is usually telling me it's time for a rest. So I am going to rest and hold off lifting til next week.

Today I went to the gym and rode the recumbent bike to get the blood flowing to my sore legs, then foam rolled and stretched

Success on the sleep front, slept from 10p-6:30 this morning Am feeling much better, but I will stick to my plan and take some time off from lifting. I've been doing NROLW for about 10 weeks and just skipped one lifting day between stages, so it's probably time for a break anyways.

Again today I did the ultimate low intensity cardio machine, the recumbent bike. Not to say a person couldn't get in a good workout, but it's easy to be a slacker, which was the goal. I actually brought a book and read to pass the time. Then more foam rolling and mobility stuff.

Lately at the gym, I've found myself thinking some of the other women are too skinny, especially the girls with zero booty It's funny how perceptions change! I never wanted to be super skinny, but til lately, I never was critical of pancake butts either

Interesting Christine... I am like that too. Not that each woman isn't allowed to have her own goal and work to get her body where she wants it to be... but I used to want to be thinner/smaller and that was the end-all be-all goal.

Now, I want to look FIT and HEALTHY. Not just small (not "small" at all, perhaps?). I don't want to be scrawny or skinny-fat like some of the cardio bunnies.

I find myself seeing people (IRL or on tv) and thinking "eat something, and lift something"... of course that's MY goal/preference, not necessarily theirs... but it's a change. For the better (IMHO).

Looking good Christine! I LOVE going to the gym early..... I usually get up at 4 and am there by 4:15 or so... of course I live 2 min down the street! Lately I haven't been quite so motivated to get up, but that's mostly because my trainer left. I need to find some new eye candy LOL... cause I have to have some motivation to get up at that hour!

Ditto, Christine.....your workouts and results look great! Like you and Lorigaud, I have to workout early or it doesn't get done. I don't enjoy getting up so early but there is also a sense of peace and lack of distractions super early (I workout at home). It can be tough to wake up at times so I super am glad when my mind yells at me and reminds me how mad I will be if I have to post here that I didn't get my workout in....definitely need that motivation!

LOL, I need all the motivation I can get at that hour! Sadly, there's very little eye candy at my gym, especially early in the morning

I admire the discipline you two have. I know by the end of the week, getting to the gym that early gets hard. But it's so great to get it done and out of the way. I work out at all different times. The guy at the front desk of gym commented yesterday how consistently inconsistent I am. I fit in my workouts wherever I can. Sometimes I'm there at 5am, sometimes 9am and sometimes at lunch. Once the afternoon starts, my time belongs to my kids and the odds of me getting in a workout go way down!

I slept really well again last night, so I know I needed the break. Today was the same recovery stuff as yesterday, bike, stretch, foam roll.

Next week I have an appt with Wendy's new strength coach. I am still planning on finishing NROLW, but I need help troubleshooting some of my lifts. He asked me my goals and I realized how vague they've been. I'm not motivated for fat loss at the moment and muscle building is a slow process. From what I've read, I'll be lucky to add 5 pounds this year. So I am going to set a goal of squatting my bodyweight in good form. I seem to add muscle slowly, so this might be a longer term goal!

Boy, you girls are dedicated.. 5am & 4 am workouts.
But then again, the earliest my gym opens is 9am and that's quite normal here. As a matter of fact, some gyms still close for lunch or will only open at 4-5pm!
