Thanks for the link. I'm not doing NROLW right now so I can't use the workout logs but I filled in the diet calculator and it comes out to 1643 calories for non workout days and 1877 calories for workout days. That's less than what I calculated so I'd better redo my calculations. Honestly though, these numbers would be easier for me to hit.

Hey Beach Plums, thanks for stopping by. I peeked in your log and laughed about your dog harassing you while you foam roll. From across the house, my dog can hear me get out the foam roller. She comes running and tries to kiss me the whole time. Definitely will try that PB kong idea.

Hey MermaidGirl!! Hope you are feeling fantastic and thanks for stopping by!

Workout:

Originally planned on lifting today, but my husband didn't sleep that well last night. He accidentally woke me up at 3am and I never went back to sleep. I'll lift tomorrow instead, no big deal.

Today walked with a friend for one hour. We talked about our fitness goals. Having a positive goal like building muscle is so much easier for me than fat loss. Eventually the smaller, leaner mentality has diminishing returns at a higher cost. Over time, I've cut myself some slack on body comp goals and settled at a point where I can live comfortably diet wise. At this point in my life, my need for peace of mind is greater than my need for the perfect ass. However, if (when) I need to diet again, Leigh Peele's "get in, get out" theory makes sense. The perma-diet mentality just sucks in my book.

Now, my girlfriend has an interesting fitness goal. She's flying to Europe in 4 months to swim in a 24 hour pool relay. She's part of a team and will have rest periods during the race. She's swim this relay before, but she has to build up some incredible yardage in the pool to prepare. She's pretty amazing.

Cals were lower today than target, but I hesitate to stuff down too much food on a full stomach, especially on a walking day. I hear you, Chloe on the food!

Default Stage 1, Workout 3A, 2 x 12, Modified

Warmup:
Foam Rolling
Leg swings
Hip swings
Air squats, 25
Reverse lunges with a twist, 10
Bridges, 10
Squats, 1 x 10, 45lbs

Squats:
2 x 12, 75lbs

Alternating sets:
(reversed order to work around muscle guy at seated row)

Step ups
2 x 12, 15's
Stability ball pike ups
2 x 8, BW, oops, didn't realize I was supposed to do 10

30 degree pushups
2 x 12, BW
Seated row
1 x 12, plate #4
1 x 12, plate #5

This workout felt short, but I figure sometimes it's good to leave wanting more In a few more workouts, the workouts jump up to 3 x 10, which seems like a pretty big jump.

Lots of back to school activity today, meeting the teacher, etc. The kids seem like they are starting to get bored at home, so they should be pretty eager to get back to school next week.

You could sub in a bent over row if the rowing apparatus is being used. Good workout.

Hi Karen! The avatar is actually a really cool picture of old wooden pier that's close to where I live. Here it is a little bigger:

My daughter did have a great time at the kids tri. The staff and volunteers at the local Y do a great job and the kids feel a real sense of accomplishment. It's a great confidence builder for the kids.

Diet wise-
I'm not sure anymore if I'm lean enough to bulk at the moment, so I scheduled an appt next Thursday to get my body fat tested. My perception of body fat levels has really changed after seeing some of the pics here. So in the meantime, I'm just going to continue to eat at maintenance and decide after the test.

AFter reading some of the posts in the chit chat thread, I am dropping the diet coke and drinking more green tea It's was Anne's comment about potential water retention from soda that inspired me.

Today marks four weeks of food tracking, which is an accomplishment for me!

I do love the picture of the bridge.

On the soda, it's worth a shot isn't it? I still find that I jump back and forth with it. I can tell in the morning when I get up (when the sleep marks don't go away quickly), but I'm not always aware of why. I understand that green tea is good for you. Strange, but I've never really tried it (unless it's the same tea you get in chinese restaurants). I'm not a tea/coffee drinker to start with. Can I ask, are you drinking it hot or cold?

I am thinking the same thing. That thread "Leigh can you post some pics" really makes me wonder about my bodyfat %. I wish I had a local place that I could get my bodyfat tested. I am also considering eating at maintainence for now.

Here's an article I found on bulking that makes sense to me although it's primarily geared towards men.

Just like most fat loss articles are geared towards women, so it balances out I guess.

Anne, you are definitely right about the soda. Besides 6 cans a days can't be good for me. Green tea is good, but I have to be in the mood for it. I've been drinking the Yogi Green Tea Slim Life because it's got blueberry and licorice flavorings. I'm a skeptic by nature and question the slimming claims. You'd probably have to drink a lot on a daily basis for any appetite suppression.

Peppermint tea with some splenda and a square of dk chocolate is good for those times I want something sweet.

My husband likes southern style sweet tea, so we always have that on hand too, made with eight decaf green tea bags, 1c splenda and a gallon of water. It's really sweet tho.

So, thank you for motivating me to quit the soda. I appreciate you stopping by

Thank you Chloe, that is helpful. When I bulk, I'm inclined to do a clean bulk. I definitely don't want to go overboard and add new fat cells, all in the name of fitness.

Bev, you started the no soda thing too Absolutely, let's keep each other accountable. Just FYI, the caffeine withdrawal headache stopped after two days.

Personally I don't think diet soda is evil in moderation. I just can drink it excessively So if I have a diet soda while I'm out to eat, I am ok with that. Plus I like diet coke with captn morgan when drinking So I may drink one occasionally, but that's it.

What's your goal?

Weekly Stats Update:

Date Weight Cals Protein Carbs Fat

11-Aug 120.4 1812 164 159 60
18-Aug 121.2 1800 166 159 58

Weight is up from start of 120.0. I don't know if because of the new workouts or too much food Time will tell this week. If I go up this week again, it's probably the food I'm guessing.

Getting body fat measurements done this week so I'll have a baseline.

Running the bridge today, instead of walking. Hopefully I won't feel too beat up! Looking forward to lifting tomorrow too.

I travel to Charlotte and Little Rock and Atlanta for work and I used to look forward to SWEET TEA on those business trips south. In fact, the girls in the Charlotte call center where I work always pointed me to places with the best sweet tea and gave me their "secret" recipes for best sweet tea so I could make it at home.

BUT, I remember the first time I tried it, I was stunned -- my tastebuds were revolting against all that sweetness. I thought I hated it. Then, had another sip, then another, then another. And, it was like crack. I was hooked.

Now, however, sweet tea is a thing of the past, unfortunately. But, those were good times.

This doesn't really have any relation to the above comments only in that it involves tea. My first experience of thai iced tea was a real eye opener. I hated it at first but it quickly grew on me.

That's about where I was, drinking too much of it. Yesterday though I quite enjoyed a diet sparkling pink lemonade. And hey, with the speed that I'm not going through it I have enough diet soft drinks to last me for years.

I agree with you completely. I plan to let myself have one every Friday, just as a treat. It is actually an energy drink that I will have (Sobe sugar free). I used to be addicted to them before soda but 3-4 of them per day ran into over $100 a month. So I switched to soda. I also like to have one if I eat out, which is maybe once a month.
Thanks for the support. I'll be logging my soda by ounces each day. I'll keep in touch!!

Nice Job!! I have to agree with my husband, losing weight is a lot easier than gaining LBM. Its hard work and never clear if you are making the right kind of progress. Have a good run today!

Oh, I've never tried thai iced tea, interesting! Thai tea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Do you like it with milk or the milk free version? The restaurants in this area tend to be the typical chains, but we do have a couple of pretty good Thai restaurants. I've have to check out that tea.

Hey Bev, I never thought of it that way. There does seem to be kind of an art to it, adding calories, but just enough.

I am proceeding cautiously at the moment, pending the results of an upcoming body fat testing. In the meantime, tracking calories will at least help me figure out my maintenance level.

Good luck on the soda today! I had to pop a mother's little helper, i.e., No Doz, before the gym this morning

Good luck on the soda today! I had to pop a mother's little helper, i.e., No Doz, before the gym this morning
I'm doing OK, abought 3 a day right now. I have lost sleep too and use it as a wake me up. I stayed up till daylight last night cause I just didn't want to go to bed. Having too much fun on PC. I do this when I don't want the days off to end.. I might of had 4 last night. I will do better though. Trying for 2 per day starting Tomorrow.

It will help a lot getting your BF tested. At least when you do add some weight and log everything you can have it re-tested and see what results you get with the program you are doing.

Will you be posting your BF% and the method when you have it tested? I am really curious where someone your composition is. Me and my hubby have a different idea of what BF is a good lean healthy one for women. I think 15-18, he thinks 10-12.
